Means the receiver had to change shape to accommodate an AR-type safety and an adjustable stock that wouldn't be wobbly and snap off. It is a bizarre looking gun for sure, but bear in mind it was designed at the request and direction of some SF unit in the US military so it's basically how they wanted it.
