Will it be a military revolution?Seeing Ukraine combat footages, war between peer powers under the equalizer of air-defense denying both sides air supremacy will inevitably devolve to close range combat between small teams of heavily armed assault troopers who move along the tree lines or urban ruins. The side who uses power armored soldiers will inevitably win most firefights and gain territory.
>>64345923>Will it be a military revolution? No, because it's cheaper to come up with ways to gain the advantage in air supremacy than it is to design, produce and outfit people with power armor
We have powered armor. It holds up to 9! people, has an autocannon, and can equip ATs.Rumor has it that this powered armor can even destroy an MBT just with the cannon, if it gets lucky.
>>64345942It's too large and won't be able to hide. APC and IFVs are priority targeted these days because a vehicle full of squishy humans makes better gore videos than a single tank that might throw it's turret.

>>64345946Left guy is real, right guy is PS. China has the exoskeleton in trials but not the armor platings
>>64345946yea but you can buy this shit on aliexpress
>>64345941Makes sense, but even FPV drones will soon be endangered species due to HPM and lasers. And power armor with enough armor to protect from fragmentation would also reduce FPVs lethality to that of a stray bullet.
>>64345923Chong Changweng waited. The lights above him blinked and sparked out of the air. There were power armor in the base. He didn't see them, but had expected them now for years. His warnings to Cernel Chongson were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.Chong was a CCP marine for fourteen years. When he was young he watched the ships and he said to dad "I want to be on the ships daddy."Dad said "No! You will BE KILL BY POWER ARMOR"There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the naval station base of the CCP he knew there were power armor."This is Chongson" the radio crackered. "You must fight the power armor!"So Chong gotted his palsma rifle and blew up the wall."HE GOING TO KILL US" said the power armors"I will shoot at him" said the HIMARS and he fired the rocket missiles. Chong plasmaed at him and tried to blew him up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill."No! I must kill the power armors" he shoutedThe radio said "No, Chong. You are the power armors"And then Chong was a power armor.
The power armor thread spammer is so gay.
>>64345955It is not an exoskeleton if the unit does not support itself.Think about it.All bodily force has to come from your interaction with gravity. If it's your feet bearing all load, it's your body ultimately spending all the energy and/or taking all the strain. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm watching a German whore pretend to be a cat.
>>64345969It is basically a brace in some way. Enough to take effort off the joints. A real exoskeleton with foot plates that are flexible enough to mimic the feet's movements still need to be invented.

>>64345923>InevitablyThe only thing inevitable here is more shitty slide threads. Shut the fuck up and go read a book. Nothing you said was even remotely close to true or relevant. The war in Ukraine is not fought by assault infantry, it's fought by long range precision fires: artillery, drones, and every plane both sides can muster. There is no fundamental misunderstanding of war by western powers: this is literally the shit doctrine seeks to avoid but prepares to fight, and the end goal is always going to be munitions on target from as far away as possible whether your PGM is a $20 DJI or the latest Texas Instruments.
>>64345923Countries that are too poor to get air supremacy are too poor to afford larp armorsCountries which are rich enough to get air superiority don't need larp armors
>>64345972>>64345969The exoskeleton should be thought about as a spectrum, not just a heavily armored power armor. The US military was testing a light, strain-reducing exo which is powered by *pressurized air*.You need to re-pressurize a tank after X hours but overall, they weigh next to nothing and reduce strain on knees a lot. At some point they were planning a commercial model for skiing resorts, for downhill skiers who rely on their legs and knees. The commercial model cost 2500 USD, the military version probably more. But that's pennies in the military world.https://spectrum.ieee.org/roam-robotics-announces-2500-soft-exoskeleton-for-skiers-and-snowboardershttps://www.roamrobotics.com/
>>64345923No because anti tank rocket launchers exist."Power Armor" will simply priority flag you for attack by light anti tank weapons, high caliber gunfire and of course, suicide drones with shaped charges or simply enough explosive to Jellify your organs. The hard counters to that sort of armor already exist and are commonly deployed, they'll just issue more HMGs with tungsten core ammo, More RPG/LAW/CarlGustaf type lightweight expendable rockets. That sort of suit will never be able to carry enough armor to defeat HEAT or proper AP due to battery energy density concerns. The more you armor it the shorter your battery life and once that armors battery goes flat it becomes an immobile coffin. You survive infantry combat by staying low and avoid detection, not by walking into MG fire like a retard. Why go around the corner yourself in a 800 pound $1,000,000 suit when you could just throw 3 frags a flashbang and willey peat and just shoot whatever crawls out then send a quadcopter in to see if its clear for a total logistical burden of $800 and 15 pounds.Like "walkers", "Power armor" is a rule of cool fantasy, no a practical thing. The only place it will ever possibly exist is in zerog/microgravity combat where both weight and cover are not real, solving its greatest problem and presenting a problem for it to solve. But even so, why would you do that instead of just making a larger armored assault craft that can carry multiple men, or making an armored robotic probe that does not risk anyone's life.If you have the ability to make bulletproof armor move itself into harms way, why put a man in it at all?
>>64345986Nah,you havent seen how Pvkrosk or other shithole ruins have been taken over. It was all assault infantry infiltrating through tree lines or even pipelines, moving from one ruin to another. Both sides I t he conflict love Datcha areas and commie blocks because they offer cover for their assault troops like Wagner and Azov to move through and murder each other on close combat. Fires are just for preparation work and usually targeted against identified strongpoints or logistics bases.
Is China even supplying plates to their soldiers yet? Last time I checked they weren't because something something esprit de corps.
>>64346010They do have them but usually not train with them. They never fought a war in 40 years but those deployed on counter piracy missions and UN nigger wrangling all look as Globohomo as they can get
Current exos can add at most 5 kgs per arm.A good ol Steroids will double or triple your strength.
>>64346014Really telling that China will adopt drones en masse before adding 10 pounds of armor to their soldiers to stop them from bleeding out.
>>64346019If by that you mean that do not give a single solitary fuck if the average solider lives or dies and care only about damage inflicted down range per cost, than yea. We all knew that though.Same reason they issue those retarded automatic grenade launchers everywhere when a guy can only possibly carry like 50 rounds for one. Those things cannot suppress they lack magazine depth and saturation, they are not precise, They are about flinging as much down range as possible before the guy carrying it gets MG'd and another takes his spot.
>>64346008>Fires are just for preparation workwhen youre an impoverish slav army too poor to provide tactical fire support and too low tech to physically dig positions out with artillery and bombs. This conflict in Ukraine is not indicative of "the new war" this is poor as fuck retarded slavs bludgeoning each other with last centuries leftovers.Neither side is capable of maneuver. Neither side has air superiority.Neither side has meaningful deep strike capability. This war of attrition is happening because both sides are exhausted, impoverish and deeply incompetent.Theres only so much that can be learned by watching two gassed boxers hug each other.
>>64346026Go watch the Type 56 channel. PLA doctrine is exactly opposite to what you say or usual USSR doctrines. They go with semi British shit like every soldier is a marksman, wasting bullets is a crime against the people, aim and aim again and only then shoot kind of shit, and train all their soldiers as if they were expert infiltrators and light infantry because they were PTSDes by almost a century of having zero industries and logistics at all, making every single bullet a precious gift by the party to the fighters. This is why they lost the firefight against Vietnam back then, since Vietnam used fully automatic AKs and the PLA only SKS.
This was 42kms behind russian frontlines.Ukraine is currently developing a fiberoptic drone able to hit up to 100kms away.
>>64345923Power armor will eventually be standard for all infantry. The question is how far out "eventually" is.First applications are probably going to be for guys like the first one in the funnel as well as logistics and engineering. Being able to tank an AK being dumped at you from across the room is a big deal. So is being able to move things that would normally take a crew or specialized equipment to load in a timely manner. First suits are going to be big, bulky, and slow compared to sci-fi suits. Probably also short battery lives unless hooked to an umbilical. Plenty of time to kool-aid man some poor bastard, but not practical for widespread issuance or general combat use.Logistics is where the early frames will truly shine. Raytheon did demos of this two decades ago. Imagine loading up pallets transport all day and barely being a little tired because the frame basically did all the actual lifting while also more or less being an anywhere chair. Productivity through the roof is guaranteed. The biggest problems for designers is being able to ensure the suit has the energy capacity to be worth widespread issue instead of specialized roles. The motors to run the thing aren't that big of a deal anymore. Tesla could probably fart them out casually. It's just simply not worth giving one to everyone if you don't get enough run time to actually make it worth it.>>64346005Please knock if off with the "we have scissors so paper is worthless" shit. Might as well not even bother with plates in the first place by that logic because a fucking 9mm to the dome will kill you dead as shit even if you're wearing the best coverage body armor with level IV plates in it, so will the things you listed. MANPADS, SAMs and SPAAGs exist so should we stop using planes and helicopters? ATGMs and "anti-tank rocket launchers" make IFVs, AFVs, and tanks totally and completely worthless right?War's over kids, everything's got a hard counter so we should just give up.
>>64346040>fiberoptic droneSo... wire guided? With 100km range.Okay.
We really need a revolutionize that will finally Kill of combined arms warfare and manuever shit.
>>64346044Its not that "paper is worthless" its that scissors are already commonly deployed, inexpensive and well developed. Its not uncommon for infantry to have light AT on them. and its utterly common for a company or platoon to have heavy weapons on call. The minute "Exoskeleton infantry is spotted those resources are going to be used because of the obvious loss of the position if guys in suits attack guys in shirts. Deploying armor like that isnt going to be stealthy, they cannot infiltrate by foot they wont have the battery life, they'll have to be deployed from vehicles adapted to carry and charge them. They MIGHT protect the uses from Small arms and grenades, which a limited suit of plates and kevlar already does most of the time. They will not protect from artillery any better than that wearing a ballistic armor and hiding in a crater does. Its ulikely they will provide protection from targeted MG fire, there will be gaps in the armor if it is able to move, and if there are not gaps it will be so heavy that youre talking minutes of battery life. The suit does not provide anything that infnatry does not already have to some degree and its costs a LOT of logisitical support AND it costs his stealth and mobility. he wont be able to tuck into cover as easily, he will make more noise. all of this for a situational protection against the one of the things least like to kill you in modern war.Its not that "counter exists" its that counter is common and the suit itself is a solution in search of a problem. The load lifters are a MUCH more sensible option. and if anything what you might see is Those things being armored and weaponized for fixed defensive use with an external power umbilical and heavy weapons. Like MAYBE attach a suit to an APC with power cable but now the carrier has to stay with like a few hundred meters and your suit is a on a mission critical leash which can be cut. And the carrier is going to be noticed and attract artillery fire.
>>64346057Future battlefields will be fucking covered with blankets of fiberoptic cables.
>>64346062WW3 global nuclear exchange and economic collapse are the only things that might even possibly do that.It is simply better to bypass strongpoints and attack critical rear area targets and destroy the enemies ability to sustain war. Industrial war requires industrial support. Thus, attack enemy industry to deny him resupply, rather than attacking his forces directly which his untouched industry will simply replace. This was the Lesson of the Second world war.~3 years of axis victories meant NOTHING in the end because they were unable to stem the tide of replacement while they themselves were unable to protect their production.
>>64346091So we need to democratize heavy industry.50 yrs and we should have nanomachine 3d printers able to do that.Yay.
>>64346062Also we should find a way to deal with mechanized shit.We really need space marine asap.

>>64346135I dunno, Hegseth is just retarded and childish enough to try and make it happen (and get a shitton of troops killed by doing so).
>>64346083So we shouldn't try to innovate with concepts that have been around forever in fiction that the tech is slowly catching up for? I guess the whole point is I'm sick and tired of people saying "NOPE! NEVER BE A THING!" simply because it's not feasible today in their minds. People made many of the same sort of arguments for things that are now commonplace today. The first tanks were a joke. People were still saying powered flight would never happen for a while AFTER the Wright brothers did if I'm remembering right. Everything good starts somewhere and probably starts shitty. They will protect significantly better against small arms than modern armor. That's the whole point. Notably better armor coverage with less felt burden for the man wearing it. Better overall survivability and endurance. Not only that but your guy can likely carry bigger nastier weapons too.An IFV will get fucked by arty too. Again, bringing up counters is bullshit. Why? First they're not omnipresent and still have to actually hit. Even if everyone in every squad now carries an AT-4 or Javelin they still have to hit that at worst Shaq sized target. From that point they better pray they're not outnumbered. You're also assuming it's always near peer combat that can casually just call supporting fire.Stealth is a down the road feature, not immediate. Miniaturization/optimization is required. First frames are NOT going to be stealthy but also won't be widespread enough for it to matter. Logistics, again, is a direct benefit of this stuff. It's a safe bet a lot of the issue brought by power armor will also be solved directly by it.It's not a "solution in search of a problem". I really wish people would stop fucking saying that trying to sound smart, it gives the opposite appearance. The problem is body armor isn't full coverage and without some sort of powered assist it'd slow down and gas out your infantry VERY quickly.Think forward anon, not purely in the now. You can speculate.
>>64346106Yes, China has better AD than the US. It will be one sided slaughter up until Hawaii or even Alaska.
>>64346154I think that power armor is going to be a curbstomping kind of weapon the same way attack helicopters and non-stealth bombers are devastatingly effective at mopping up armies with no air force and no air defenses left. It'll be used by SOF niggas for clearing bunkers to limit casualties against an already defeated enemy
>>64346173I think most common use case will be for police SWAT units instead of military, criminals don't have anti-tank weapons
>>64346173That's exactly the sort of thing I expect the first ones to actually see combat to be doing. They're not going to be doing regular combat infantry things, they're going to be doing things that would be exceptionally dangerous for regular infantry like building clearing.>>64346180>criminals don't have anti-tank weaponsNeither do most infantry if we're being totally honest. On the civ side I'd actually expect firefighters to get versions suited to their needs. You might see one or two major SWAT teams with one but fully power armored cops is another down the road thing.

Nobody fears fat amy or crumbling raptors with their RAM chipping off. And they will have no airfields to fly off in an event of war in the WestPac. >>64345962Not really. Energy weapons are limited by line of sight and typically have to remain on target for multiple seconds to destroy a drone. And if a drone is flying low to the ground, it can't be engaged until it's fairly close.Basically, you can reliably calculate the maximum number of drones a particular laser can defeat in the amount of time it would take the drones to reach the laser from the edge of its maximum effective range, and then just send one more drone. There goes the multi-million dollar laser turret, almost certainly destroyed at a significantly lower cost in drones.
>>64352321That's not entirely fair, I don't think anybody is suggesting the anti-drone future is to put a single laser up on an open hill and daring your enemy to get in range.
>>64351074>He doesn't ski on his assNot gonna make it
>>64351932Infantry gets killed by auto cannons? Wow time to retire infantry they are so useless!
>>64345923giving every soldier heavy armor only makes sense in a total war scenario because in total war, the solder actually becomes valued.
>>64353884No, it's the opposite. In a total war scenario manpower supply becomes huge (and hence the value goes down), and it may not even be possible to outfit every man with the best. The only calculation that matters is practical, and the practical calculation may consider that losing men is an acceptable cost and resources should be put elsewhere. Meanwhile a first world nation doing oversea adventures will not accept the political cost of losing many men, and will consider an upgrade in personal protection money well spent.
I see a lot of chinks in that armor.
