Nah man, he'll get a 4S17M and it'll either be a 10x12 on paper and actually be a 9x11 or it'll be 9lb if he goes SAPI M.
The Hesco Z210 would be killer for the crotch plate role but it's pricey.
>>
>>64349717
Is it just me or does everyone look fat with a plate carrier on? Only absolute twigs don't look like they're bulging out of s these smaller carriers. If you have any kind of muscle or girth, you look like you're spilling out of them.
>>

Got some pretty good advice last time on helmets, need some on optics.

Looking at finishing work related kit. Got armor down, helmet I'm waiting on Team Wendy to tell me if the weird holes on their specialist series helmets are made for some weird fucking proprietary rails that nobody sells before I purchase, looking at setup for my rifle.

We got CCOs and ACOGs, but I hate the ACOG and our CCOs are beat to shit. I've got a PRO that apparently should be "fine", nobody is going to give a shit about it, I got a vickers sling, and swapping out furnature is acceptable so long as its Magpul. but I want a bit of range, and dont know if I go with an LPVO or flip magnifier.

Have experience with LPVO's, none with magnifiers. Do I go for a matching aimpoint magnifier, or bite the bullet and get an NSN numbered LPVO? Cheapest is probably the Sig Tango6 which I can get discounted for a "fuck it why not" price, same with Aimpoint 3X.

I have a bit of unspoken leeway on this shit being a part of a PSD, so if and when I show up with something not from the armory, as long as I don't draw attention I'll probably be fine.

Got plenty of time to train and get good with either option, but range time with either at night under NODs is nogo, and it will be learning in the field.

Reject the tiddy carrier, embrace full coverage.
But really it's because everybody defaults to a 10x12 or SAPI M (9.5x12.5) and if you're genuinely a big guy you shouldn't be afraid to roll a SAPI L (10.25x13.25) or XL (11x14). You eat a weight penalty but there is a coverage advantage. Hell, it wasn't unheard of for people to be rolling 15x16" jumbo plates for full-torso coverage years ago.
>>
>>64349968
10x12's are the right size according to the size chart though. They go nip to nip and from my just below the collar bone to the bottom of my rib cage.
>>
>>64349982
Then it's the right size unless you're trying to deviate from the norm in terms of coverage. A BALCS-style carrier will probably contain "mass" more and provide more coverage with soft armor behind the plates.
>>
>>64349968
I'm new here. What sort of setup does this guy have? I'd also like some protection for my belly/penits

Austrian "EKO Cobra" SOF dude. Looks like he's got a setup similar to pic rel Mehler Vario full coverage kit. MV is a German manufacturer that sells very advanced equipment, but it's costly and they do not sell to regular joes. You can replicate his setup for relatively cheap by buying IIIA pelvis and shoulder armor from Militech - Chinese but fairly cheap. Rifle rated, made-in-USA pelvis, femoral (upper leg), and shoulder armor can be had from Hoplite but it'll cost you. A newer Chinese company called Jinwudun will sell IIIA stuff for much, much cheaper but they're unproven. UARM has Level IV options in some of those categories but they're a touch sketchy as well.

Because they all are. Infographic anon doesn't have any actual real world experience and just takes the word of random posts from reddit. Honestly, most of these graphics do more harm than good p, but maintaining them seems to be the guys primary hobby so the thread just tolerates him out of a sad sense of pity.

I think infographic anon is fine. His info may not be up to date or even good at times, but anyone using this thread and the content contained within as their sole source of information deserves their fate. The way I see it, it provides a baseline place to start.
>>
>>64351540
>His info may not be up to date or even good at times, but it doesn't matter because reasons
No. Spreading shitty information is detrimental and at the very worse could actually get someone killed because they followed some shitty infographics. The worst thing is whenever someone has a question about literally anything, he sites his graphics as though they were gospel.
>>

I really appreciate your personal expertise.

>>

The sad reality is that there is no good information here regardless of the medium in which it’s posted. I agree with you, but I think it’s an exercise in futility. Let the anon have his fun and let’s hope it at least gets people with a baseline of competency a start in their homework.

It took me like twenty five minutes since I was interested in buying one and figured, shit, if I'm doing the comparisons myself why not make a quickie to save you guys a step?
>>64351961
Appreciated. I'm going to wrap up the helmet accessory infographic then maybe a bunch of quickies in a separate "Armor Files" imgur collage that go into advanced areas like NIJ 7.6.1 and NIJ 7.6.2, cheat ring and fair hit rules, then things like boron carbide amorphization (why if you're worried about tungsten threats even at standoff you REALLY don't wanna be caught dead with an LTC 28595, 28791, or other B4C-PE layup - get Silicon Carbide instead), then specific threat hierarchies by caliber or something.
I'd like to do a deep dive into the NIJ 44mm BFD limit versus GOST's <22mm limit, including differences in backing materials, and see if there's empirical evidence to suggest running IIIA soft or a trauma pad behind a standalone plate dramatically improves survivability and makes it worth peoples' time versus weight, bulk, and heat drawbacks.
>>64351993
He reminds me ironically of the super serious fuckers on /r/qualitytacticalgear that put thousands of dollars into Hesco 4800s, GEN3 tubes, a $1,500 Ops-Core, an iray thermal for their gun, ECOTI on the tubes, because that would give them an edge in the boog. All true (well, except the 4800s) but they all dipped when the stimulus checks ran dry. Was funny.

A lot of them do. You just chose a picture where they don't.
>>
>>64355191
Couple of potential reasons.
1. Double the filters attached means double the filters used. This means they need double the stockpile that needs to be rotated every so often. Logistical burden.
2. They aren't exposing themselves to chemical agents long enough, concentrated enough, or potent enough to require two CAP1 filters. They have initiative and can retreat to swap filters if they need to.
3. Weight.

That's with the first time buyer discount. The HT came out like two weeks ago so it's still fairly untested. 6 and 11 meter (think it could be jailbroken to 10?) plus 2 and 70cm is enticing and gives the Magnum 1012 a run for its money.
This is 200% larp, but if they come out with an AES-256 / P-25 version with 11, 10, 6, 2, 70cm Tx I could see it being a major contender in the tac radio space.

Anyone have a particular brand of sandals (with heel & ankle strap) they like? I have some Teva’s that I like hiking in, but find the toe strap and buckle can chaff the tops of my feet, the traction can be sub par, and occasionally I’ll stub my toe. But in Southern Appalachia, I’d much rather have light feet and the ability to drain water. Couple weeks ago I was in a saddle and a heavy rainstorm parked itself between the mountains. While I was soaked to the bone it was nice not having that bulk on my feet and they dried out pretty quickly.

How the FUCK is it that literally nobody can make kneepads that stay in place?
Is the solution the pads that slide into pockets over your knee?
Nobody's even embarrassed to wear "kneepads" around their ankles, or sideways.

Those Agilite faggots are up to 4375 fake reviews.

Damn, these guys at Agilite must think everybody is retarded.
>>
>>64359410
It's been deleted, but he got into a back and forth with Buff on reddit as to academic AP differences between M855 vs M855A1 or something else really goofy.
Mr. Gilliam blogs on his site here:
https://gilliamtechnicalservices.com/blogs/armor-plate-blog
Some of the articles are good, others okay. I can tell when he's jabbing at various competitors without naming names. He's in a weird bracket of "alt-alt" armor. No NIJ certs, no testing by Buff or other youtubers (the "NIJ substitute" alt-armor guys like Adept / RMA / Stealth Armor / Militech use), no nothing except a really janky set of test reports and a product lineup that changes monthly. Other "alt-alt armor" guys are Jinwudun and American Blast Ass. Not a great crowd.
His Model 8002, rated for M993, is interesting and only $250 / 1.05" thick / 7.5lb, but there's no hard support for those claims. If it worked it would mog the Hesco 4403, but does it work?

> Highcom's nominal sizing chicanery
In all seriousness this is pretty brazen, too. Almost Agilite-tier. "Uh it's 10x12 Shooter's Cut! Ackshually that's nominal, it's a bit smaller, like 9.5x11.5". Uh well, you see, for us 'nominal 10x12' can mean 9x11"! That's how our 10x12 plates are lighter than our SAPI S plates. . ."
>>
Assuming both companies are certified or whatever, is there any real difference in buying cheap level whatever plates from company A vs expensive ones from company B?
>>
>>64359467

The product page and test reports don't say anything about M993. Also the test report is pretty ugly. Two shots but the first is 40mm BFD and the second is over the limit.
Anyway it seems retarded to buy discount-tier armor that's literally made by some dude in his garage.
>>
>>64359476
Don't forget Highcum is the only mfg whose swimmer cut actually weighs more than their shooters. The swimmer 10x12 is actually 10x12 (swimmer is a SOCOM spec and not just madethefuckup) while shooters cut can mean anything and the 10x12 is indeed... 9x11. Good going highcum.
Shotstop did something similar with huge +- variance on both weight and thickness specs. Chinese-import fake NIJ label shitlords passing off mystery meat as Tencate.
RMA has pretty serious variances on the XRT too. The shooters (10x12 nominal!) is 5.3lb, SAPI M 9.5x12.5... 5.9lb. Size and weight are +-0.2 all dimensions. Yes the shooters has more corner cutting, but that's a major weight difference.
>>
>>64359502
Weight, specs, curvature, size, whatever. There can be lots of differences between plates that go beyond price.
>>
>>64359502
Yes, major differences. Weight, thickness, multi hit capacity, special threat testing beyond NIJ specs, reputation and quality control of mfg B, amount of headroom over listed specs, actually having edge to edge coverage (*cough* RMA cheat ringed 1189 / 1199 G1 *cough*).
>>64359507
Well it's just one guy in his garage, you can't expect him to run an armor company, slap the import ceramic together with the chinese PE, and blog at the same time. Too much for Mr. Incredible!
>8002

I did see the 8002 sucks balls in the BFD department as well. I think it's thin on the backer (kinda like the RMA XRT).
>>
>64359531
Forgot to mention this in this post, but if you want a tell tale sign there's something fucky, look to overgeneralized statements. Apex said the LTC 28601 is good for any tungsten core AP below .50 BMG. It's only rated for M993. AR500 also at one point rated their steel III+ for 7.62x51mm "Black Tip" - what black tip? M80 with a sharpie, or actual AP like M61 / P80 / M2AP reloads?
Similarly, Gilliam says the 8002 is good for M993 AND "heavy tungsten projectiles" - what does that mean? Swiss P AP, 7.62x54mmR 7N37 / 7N51, AP11 LR, DM151, all heavier than M993 so it must surely be them. Or maybe the .338 APs like AP529! Nobody knows! All we know is that the plate is already at 39mm BFD fresh against M2AP, so how the hell is it supposed to handle Swiss P?

Just came across another newcomer to armor.
May I introduce the new shady armor company of the week... Mjolner Systems! (not Mjolnir...)
>Before Mjolner, we were end users of ballistic PPE ourselves. We relied on this critical component of our kit in real-world environments, where compromise is not an option. That experience drives our philosophy today: we do not tolerate gear that “copes” with threats.
>copes
>As a Material Science Disruptor, we innovate relentlessly to deliver next generation material technologies to our customers in executing their most challenging missions. Our R&D is not an afterthought- it is the core of everything we do.
>We don’t just manufacture ballistic products. We engineer protection.
So you can't buy anything from them yet, it's all "deploying" in 2026. Red flag #1. First off, their Mk1 helmet is rated to NIJ 0101.07 RF2 and VPAM PM-8, so 7.62x51mm M80 / 5.56 M855 / M193 AND 7.62x39mm BZ API, all under 3.3lb AND "poing blank BFD< 15mm."
>poing
A special order version rated to NIJ IV / VPAM PM-10 (3x B-32 API) under 4.18lb will also be available in Q4 2026, plus a SLAAP-esque plate to boost the BZ API Mk1 to Level IV for 0.55lb.
>this is technically impossible given current materials but ok
>now what about body armor?
In Q1 2026, their new RF3+ plate will reach OPERATIONAL MATURITY. 0.6" thick, standalone, under 4.4lb, full protection against 7.62x51mm M993. Their technology to pull this off?
>COMING NEXT WEEK
(don't ask how they solved the boron carbide amorphization problem)
>>
>>64355191
So it doesn't hit the rifle stock. Cheek weld.
>>
>>64359735
lmao, that's not even a real pic, it's a rendering.
> Their technology to pull this off?
Assuming it's not a joke, I think they are combining RMA and Highcom's technologies. Make it a 9x11" plate and give it a 1" cheat ring. 7x9".
> helmet
Yeah, this is the tell that it's all bullshit. The plate claim is "possible" if you're shady and maximize dirty tricks, the helmet claims are just physically impossible.
It's all somebody's idea of a joke, for sure.
>>64359576
> Similarly, Gilliam says the 8002 is good for M993 AND "heavy tungsten projectiles"
He doesn't actually say that, though. He implies that the 8002 MIGHT work, not that he ever tested it or that it's going to work, lol. Just like, "hey *takes sip from can of Monster Zero*. they say this stuff works better against tungsten rounds, so it'll be your best bet if you're up against them." If you get killed, he has plausible deniability.
Also, on that note, it's a MASSIVE red flag that he picked a fight with Buffman.
>>
>>64358053
You've never handled a CAT, have you?
>>64358119
You have no idea what you are doing at all, it's painfully evident. Why in the world would you put a RUBBER BAND on a tourniquet, adding an extra step in deploying it? How will you get the rubber band off if you need to apply the tourniquet one handed? You're supposed to stage the TQ so it comes out of the pouch in a loop, ready to be put on. Get a STB/TCCC class before you buy anything else. I'm saying this with your best interest at heart.
>>

>How will you get the rubber band off if you need to apply the tourniquet one handed? You're supposed to stage the TQ so it comes out of the pouch in a loop, ready to be put on.
Teeth are an option, it's not like rubber bands are particularly hard to break. It'll be a simpler deployment once I add the molle to the sides and throw on a dedicated TQ pouch
>Get a STB/TCCC class before you buy anything else. I'm saying this with your best interest at heart.

>For reliable defense against the M993 and heavy tungsten projectiles, choose Model 8002
>reliable defense
The issue is that no velocity is given, but reliable defense implies no standoff or special conditions. He doesn't say it on the actual product page but he does say it in his Level IV guide.
>Mjolner
IMO, it's a Diamond Age style hype company with a mix of Rook. Massive claims and not a whole lot of delivery. They state elsewhere on their site that their plates have full coverage, so maybe a dash of "old school RMA" in there too.
Also their site just went down. Huh.

>>64360926
> The issue is that no velocity is given, but reliable defense implies no standoff or special conditions. He doesn't say it on the actual product page but he does say it in his Level IV guide.
With no test report and him going out of his way to beef with Buffman, he's probably just making shit up, lol.
Same goes for "Mjolner". Their helmet claims are not physically possible, and their plate claims are only possible if they cheat, so it's all bullshit for sure.
>>
>>64360972
I get the isolated issue of beefing with Buffman, his credibility took a heavy hit after the 4SUS4 debacle and the cheap armor market is oversaturated, so there's no room for Gilliam unless he fights for a space against cheap Highcoms and RMA - attack RMA by attacking Buff who stans for them regularly.
The problem is that he has no NIJ certs, so he needs youtubers to get any kind of credibility because his test reports are a mess. He alienated the largest armor youtuber that "alt-armor" guys go to when they either are afraid of NIJ or don't want to put up numerous samples for NIJ cert.
>Mjolner
Well their website, which has been registered since August 2024, just went down in the hours after they got called out on a basketweaving forum, so I definitely agree something was up. The guy in charge was a Kevin Yu going off their linkedin. Seems to be part of an investment fund.

>What use do pistols really get anyway?
Interior of structures/tight fighting? Extremely useful. Getting shot in the rifle is a lot more common than you'd think and your rifle might just choke on something stupid. Ive seen perfectly fine rifles get like a random piece of a breaching charge inside the ejection port and lock up entirely.
Exterior and inna bush? Probably ditch it unless you have an open bolt or similar crew served.
>Scar over $2000 AR
Having owned all of them (416D, Modern 416, SR15, BCM, various partsbuild fancy ARs, SCARs) the SCAR is the only one I end up coming back to for the most part. The reliability is quite fantastic and the recoil impulse has a heavy forward stroke which drives the muzzle down and makes it easier to recover shots when moving or off balance.
And it folds, who doesnt like folding?
>>64361791
The double barrel is mostly for shooting snakes im going to be honest with you. From a breaching standpoint its too wide unless youre firing it sideways or stood way too far off the handleset. Im only carrying the shotgun to breach doors.
Weight wise the double barrel probably marginally heavier.

We have a new member of the SAPI family - courtesy of Hardwire and Leading Technology Composites. Introducing... for the third (for real!) this time... LSAPI!
>LSAPI plates are approximately 30% lighter than the current Enhanced Small Arms Protective Insert (ESAPI) Generation III, reducing the Soldier’s combat load while maintaining ballistic protection.
For those unfamiliar, GEN III ESAPI is the swimmer-cut VTP version. 5lb for a size medium, raised BFD limit to ~58-62mm versus REV. J <44mm. Threat level remains 3x M2AP or 3x M995 respectively at 2,850ft/s and 3,350ft/s +-50. This LSAPI cuts 30% weight off while "maintaining ballistic protection" - I don't think that's accurate because that puts this plate at 3.5lb for nu-SAPI M and 3x M2AP / 3x M995 defeat at that weight is impossible, even with raised BFD limit.
What this does seem to closely line up with is the new USMC Lightweight Plate (SAPI-L aka USMC LITE), which is 3.4lb non-standalone protection against 7.62x51mm M80 and 5.56x45mm M855A1. Add soft armor and you're right up with the VelSys PBZSA / LTC 28791 in terms of weight. Per unit, this LSAPI is only about $900 each across 72,179 units so it isn't a ballbustingly state of the art plate. It's like a cheaper ICW LTC 28791 with a raised BFD limit.

Thx. I'll pursue that.

Glad to help. I'm liking the idea of this RT-880 so far. It seems their naming convention takes a page out of some armor manufacturers' books and the lower number is the higher-end model going off of prices.
It has the ability to pop the middle knob on top off and run a shortwave donut antenna for better shortwave Rx.

I'm in a copypasta type'a mood. Two more members of the VTP family from a 2024 congressional hearing. The OG original SAPI from 1998 is back, this time as a VTP version with a raised BFD limit and hopefully modernized materials. My guess is ~2.9lb ICW, weight not counting soft armor, M80 + M193 + M855 + 7.62x54R LPS (this one at reduced velocity), so you're saving 0.6lb versus LSAPI.
Also available is an all-PE ULWSAPI (ultra lightweight), which if I had to guess is probably like a Hesco 3801LV but again with raised BFD limit and the VTP cut. Best guess is a pound flat.
So the current US plate hierarchy as of Sept 2025 is:
1. VTP ULWSAPI - 7.62x39 MSC / 7.62x51mm M80 @ ~1lb ICW soft armor.
2. VTP SAPI - 5.56x45 M855 / M193 / M80 / 7.62x54R LPS @ 2.9lb ICW soft armor.
3. VTP LSAPI - adds M855A1 to above and likely BZ API @ 3.5lb ICW.
4. VTP ESAPI - 3x .30-06 M2AP / 5.56x45mm M995 @ 5lb ICW.
5. VTP XSAPI - 3x 7.62x51mm M993 / 5.56x45mm M995 @ 5.58lb ICW.
Note that there is no known VTP XSAPI model that passes mil FAT testing. The acceptable weight target in pic related is tight for that kind of protection.

Just carry a pocket knife and stop pretending you’re going to do something other than slicing sausages up with it.

Yes you should not baton wood either.

It looks like a 4 inch blade, you're acting like he's carrying a Rambo knife
Yes anything he does with it could be done with a pocket knife, but also anything done with a pocket knife could be done with a small fixed blade, so he's just freeing up pocket space

I wish we could do simunition here in the US. Would be fun. Though need to inspect every single mag to make sure there are no chances of disastrous mistake.

Unironically thinking about buying an FLC and some IDOGEAR GP pouches to make a quick and dirty rig for my turkshit magfed shotgun. If I run four across then I should be able to fit eight 10 round magazines. Counterbalance with 3L bladder on the back because this sucker is gonna be front heavy.

Honestly dont need LBE, it wont work for long enough for you to need that.

What makes you think you cant have simmunitions in the US?
>>64367412
Most people see the gun as the threat, then fail to apply height over bore offsets and end up shooting directly in the center of the plate
>What about this edge hit!
What about all the misses that didnt end up on my plates or even on my body?

>Turkshit
To be fair, I've got a VRPA-40 with more than 1,000 shells through it and it still works great. Obviously I won the turkshit quality lottery so jury is out on whether that's repeatable.
>end up shooting directly in the center of the plate
Which is technically the weakest part of an honestly built edge-to-edge coverage plate if we account for crack propagation and "fair hit" shot spacing requirements. That's where the RMA 1155 in pic rel gave out.
>What about all the misses that didnt end up on my plates
Hopefully got eaten by other armor, cover, or struck something that can be medically attended to unlike pneumothorax / direct CNS / heart hits. My point stands that the bottom hit is outside the 6x8" fair hit box assuming you wear a 10x12 and an NIJ-spec plate is not technically required to stop that one, so if you were wearing an RMA 1189 or similar you'd likely be FUBAR'd on that one. Nobody likes cheat ringed plates.
>or even on my body
yay!

>What makes you think you cant have simmunitions in the US?
I recall they were banned until very recently.

Also, food for thought, pic rel is the shot spacing requirement for early US ESAPI plates (2007). Shot one of .30-06 M2AP must be between 0.75-1.25" from any edge, then shots 2 and 3 must be six inches from the preceding hit. On the contrary, NIJ Level IV is ordinarily a one hit requirement but can go up to six per plate per the manufacturer's specification upon submission for NIJ cert. If a plate is subjected to a multi-hit NIJ Level IV regimen then the shot spacing requirement is minimum 2" like lower levels within 6x8" fair hit zone. Not required to stop hits up to 2" from edges. The benefit of doing this is that it reduces the number of samples required for NIJ cert. Downside is that the plate is either going to eat a weight penalty and/or you gotta cheese and use either a ceramic tile array (RMA 1189), which necessitates a cheat ring or extreme weight, or pellet layup (LIBA) which results in gaps between ceramic pellets that can be snuck through by small penetrators (M855).
