It almost makes sense to me if I think of videos of soldiers trying to drive motorbikes through muddy fields, and slipping and sliding and getting back on the motorbike a few times before a drone gets them.
But even if I might take a horse over a motorbike in specific situations, I'd probably always take a Chinese golf cart or ATV over a horse.

Cavalry is slightly less than useless in this sparse battlefield where everything is one tapped and armor is rare.

That and I honestly think a trained Yakut Cavarlyman who’s been horse riding his whole life could outpreform a conscript on a Chinese motorbike

The knife fight guy was a Yakut. They are a good people with a warrior culture, good people’s.
>>
>>64353102
This. Cavalry was decently effective in WW1 on the eastern front (Germans nearly took Minsk and won the war in 1915 with them), and in the China front in WW2 it saw some decent use.

It’s mostly sparse light infantry flanking each other, cavalry could theoretically work maybe

And just like that, any small amount of mercy or slightest bit of humanity that I still felt for these russian zigger subhumans, which somehow managed to hide itself within the deepest recesses of my heart despite the constant reaffirmation of their barbarity, has been thoroughly extinguished.
I wish for nothing but complete and utter TZD. I would trade not just 1:1, but EVERY zigger's life for a SINGLE horse. EVERY square cm of russia should be flattened, sowed with grass and hay, and designated as the world's largest national park for horses. I want to see a world freed from living with the knowledge that, at one point in our planet's history, the mere CONCEPT of "russia" and "a russian" existed.

I am a moderate.

Dragoons in the Russian Army were mounted infantry. They didn't fight on horseback, but dismounted to fight on foot.

A mount is the defining trait of cavalry.
>>
>>64352915
Horses are strictly superior to ATVs and UTVs over rough terrain. The problem with them isn't what they're capable of, it's the massive investment involved in training horses and riders in a world where horses are no longer a primary mode of transportation. Russia is spending a thousand lives a day on golf cart assaults. How many thousands of people in all of Russia do you think are competent riders, and how do you think they'll replace them once they're out of people with years of civilian experience with horses? The correct answers are "a handful" and "they won't."
>>
>>64354700
No, fighting from horseback is the defining trait of cavalry.

This. Dragoons are still a thing, we just use armored vehicles instead of horses. So there's a mounted element which is the vehicle crew and a dismount element which are the guys fighting on foot. They're still cavalry because they're in a mounted unit and fight differently from infantry.
>>
>>64354975
Could be worse. 'Mechanized infantry' originally meant bicycles.
>>
So in other words there's a non-zero chance that we'll get to see Russian soldiers on horseback wielding Mosin-Nagants as part of a Russian not-a-war in Ukraine.

This war continues to prove that time is a flat circle.

>I don't give a flying fuck what they call something
Understanding the correct terminology in context matters. You're like those journalists who call every IFV or SPG a tank. Russian Dragoons and Russian Cavalry doctrine were two different things, and their weaponry reflected it. Cavalry had carbines with no bayonets, or in the case of the Cossacks they had rifles which were sighted in without bayonets affixed. Russian Dragoons had rifles sighted with bayonets fixed just like the Russian infantry, because it was intended that they would be doing their shooting on foot rather than the back of a horse.
>>
>>64354815
yep. Military horses made sense in the era when horses where a common mode of transportation and lots of people knew how to maintain and deal with them.
Nowadays horses are expensive luxury pets for 99% of the population, with exceptions for tradition or psychological effect (police horses)

There's a case to be made for cargo mules in mountain terrain, but horses in a battlefield in 2025 is fucking retarded. A signal of desperately grabbing whatever is available.

he's clearly referring to Hungary and Slovakia in generic terms

the funniest thing of all is that they're still getting any oil and gas at all only because Ukraine is honoring their treaties by allowing the enemy to continue operating pipelines on their soil during wartime
>>
>>64353645
If it's Slovakia, the reason is that Fico owns a majority share in the Russian oil+gas import business.
He's just a typical white gipsy who doesn't have a care in the world for what happens tomorrow as long as he turns in all those stolen cables and pipes.
He knows that once Russian shit stops flowing for good, we'll simply start getting fed from the other direction and his priority will be liquidation without leaving any witnesses who might talk in court.

Hungary... I don't know.

>Horses are strictly superior to ATVs and UTVs over rough terrain.
Depends. Likely to break legs on extremely rough ground, also likely to nope out at bits of ground they don't like the look of. Ground pressure also sucks, horses are infamous for getting stuck in battlefield mud and Ukraine is notoriously muddy anyway. They're situation, like most things.

The drones eyes are sensitive to movement. If you don't move it can't see you.
>>
>>64356248
this is the only good strategy against the drones
you stand still and wait for it to aim and fly at you
then you move away at the last second and pray it only denonates on impact and not by radio
you can even try to grab it and disarm
>>
>>64356114

Orban is a proto-Yanukovich. A local kleptocrat oligarch in power who's fully corrupt into a mutually-beneficial (for him, not the country) arrangement with russia. His people get the gas from russia, then resell it to Hungary with a markup. This generates billions of him and his cronies. Which allows him to corrupt other in the country and stay in power. Why would such a person diversify gas supplies? He would be undermining his power, wealth and influence. Simple as. So much for "Ukraine is corrupt" kek.
This is what russia wanted to do with most countries in Europe: get them on the hook through personal connections, use those connections to corrupt the local elites, have "their guys" in power to sabotage any coherent response from within.
>>
>>64356166
>dragoons were mounted infantry
Only at first, but at some point they stopped dismounting to fight and became regular cavalry
