What jacket is /k/ wearing now that colder weather arrived?
>>
>>64356482
My ultra lib hunting buddy wears flecktarn and I supress a chuckle every fucking time I go with him
>>
>>64356482
It’s not cold where I live.
When I lived in the cold, I wore kuhl jackets that I waxed for some added weather protection(and they look nice).
I also bought surplus base/mid layers for innawoods, the current issue stuff is super effective as long as you stay moving and mostly keep dry

A civilian, signal orange, gore-tex jacket that looks just like any other hiking/outer shell jacket that 75% of the population in my city wears in the colder months.
I do of course have a flecktarn parka too but don't like the lack of a button on or zip on liner for the colder months.

I think there is very few things that can make me not look like a spastic to be fair, bad spawn rng, but i guess it helps to blend in with the rest of the random people on the street so no one takes a second look at me.

French officers trench coat, 100% wool. I got it last year because I was sick of my cotton jackets dryrotting after 2 years of use. Hello Mr. Moneybags.

Two questions: do you have a preference in hangers and bars? I've always worried I'd bust hangers or destroy my closet hanging my jackets like that, they get pretty heavy.
And what is that blue-black tigerstripe sandwiched between your desert cammies and the alpenflage?

Lol, one was an estate sale that is hard to price, as I had it in a pile and got a lot price. Along with the DPM jacket, and the cold weather, 3 color M65. Another was a thirft store pickup that was $10. I added the liners for more than that. Protip, the smock woobie liners are not the M65 liners. My estate sale smock came with one and it was ill fitting. The blue tiger stripe is Greek Lizard.
>no more wire hangers!!! Rreee!
She was right. Wooden with metal hooks from Goodwill can run about a buck each. Super duty about $15, picrel.

Kino jacket (without the fur). Mine has lasted me since my freshman year of college back in 2012 as my main winter jacket until it gets negative degrees. I'm having to condition it at least once a year now, but it's still holding up. Do need some patch-working on the collar though, from my pomade era back in college finally catching up to it.

I have this discontinued finnish polycotton parka and layear an old primaloft jacket underneath.
Somehow uninsulated parkas aren't as popular as they used to be. Quite a shame IMO.

They're meant to be worn with lots of layers. Unless you like doing that, just buy a regular coat
>>

Yeah the angle is a little fucky. Pair that with me wearing layers underneath and also being a bit of a bigger guy (190lbs at 5' 11"), it may not be the best angle.

The problem with thick canvas is that you need a heavy duty sewing machine to repair it properly. Most problems can be easily fixed yourself however. Some sporting goods stores with a repair center like Decathlon will even take your milsurp shit for repairs like fixing zippers, patching polycotton, fixing rips etc.
>>
>>64367515
Oh yeah, there's some shit you just can't do unless you have a really heavy duty machine a cobbler is likely to have. But it's a lifesaver to be able to sew on a button or stitch a smaller rip
>>
>>64366684
Good to know. I have true cold weather coats so I was thinking more the 20-30ish degree days. Seems like I’d need the liner with it and then it’s not really a value anymore.
>>
>>64367721
The liner is nice, but at the end of the day it's a cotton jacket. If you're fairly insensitive to the cold, you may not need more.
Personally, I just find wearing layers trying to do casual shit to be annoying, I don't like shedding layers and adding them back on.

>gas chambers seem so inefficient
>how did they get rid of the bodies

Find an old Sears Kenmore machine with all metal body and machined metal gears. Fucking amazing. Keep needles new and sharp. Literally found one out for trash with the cabinet. I oiled it because it hadn't been used in what appeared to be a long ass time. Just werks, though the speed control is a bit imprecise compared to modern ones. Who gives a fuck though, you can darn up massive ass holes in surplus easily. Gutermann thread only, trust me. Don't buy the cheap garbage thread, you will have so many headaches with how weak that shit is. Spools (the ones that go under the plate with the feed dogs) are cheap, just buy whatever is available. I use a mix of Singer and noname. Make sure your machine doesn't use unobtanium retarded spools. Having a ton loaded with different colors is nice; used to have one that used unobtanium and I had a whole one spool. Had to run out of whatever color was loaded for the rear facing stitches before swapping colors which sucked.

To be fair, if you expose yourself in any sincere way here, you're going to be told to kill yourself by 15 anons anyway

I feel that would be an exception, but in general you shouldn't be rocking Sgt. Menendez's field shirt complete with unit patches and what not. My local surplus store was selling a Russian general coat, but I skipped out on it.

>>64369740
Stolen valor is when you deliberately claim to be serving or served in a branch of the military when in reality you did not, they can't harass you for wearing an OD green field jacket

Also I thought "punk" meant like leather jackets and mohawks

>Really depends on how long you're outside; I assume you're not out for hours at a time hunting like me?
If I’m out for hours or it’s sub 10-15 degrees I already have plenty of cold weather gear for that. More the 20-30 degree midwest winter and windy for the short time outside. Or pheasant hunting but then I’m walking and have a vest on over the top. Not worried about getting too cold usually even around Christmas.

I do appreciate the perspectives on them with the liner though.

You guys say to take the patches off like people don't ask you even without them. Hell I've been asked wearing camo of different countries IIRC, with no patches on any of the shit I wear out when not hunting. Hell most of the time I'm asked I'm wearing a blaze orange hunter's hat. Lol.

>>64369821
I'd call an M65 with liner a decent "average weather" winter jacket. As long as it isn't super warm to where you're wearing a hoodie or so cold/windy your fingers are going numb you'll be fine. Wind, hard to say. I've certainly used it in the wind before even when it was super cold (east coast). Not ideal for that and I'd prefer my snowboarder's jacket or a heated jacket but it works. I've used heavy (thick) cotton longsleeves over underarmor while wearing an M65 as well, as non-ideal as cotton is. You can also "replace" the liner with something like a Swiss Tech jacket (green "packable puffer") to increase how warm it keeps you and how well it holds up against the wind or steal a down insert from a good but worn out winter jacket. Also for pants, I tend to wear overwhites with some snowboarder pants under them. Much comfier than a lot of alternatives IMO and the overwhites protect my relatively pricey pants. Not the cheapest but you can get good sales end-of-year at local ski shops. October should be pretty ideal for beginning of year sales too.

They're really not warm.
Their main draw is that they're tough and won't get ripped walking through brush.
I wear mine with a brown bear fleece liner during the cold days of hunting season and I'm mainly warm because of the liner and not the shell jacket.
>>
>>64369921
You got a shitty knockoff if yours isn't warm, anon. Even without a liner, mine is good to go until it's consistently below freezing and I'm outside long enough to bleed the trapped air, and it gives no fucks about the wind either.
>>
>>64369934
I think you're either really fat, or ascribing powers to the jacket it doesn't have. It is a thin layer of cotton, it doesn't have inherently good insulation capability unless it has that liner.
>>64369921
Those things are fucking baller but I can't find one without baby length sleeves, and I have short arms relative to my height
>>
>>64369934
Mine is a hand-me-down that my father wore back when he was in the army, so its legit as far as that goes.
It is often consistently around freezing during hunting season in my area, so that is a big issue.
It is fine if I just need to take the dogs for a run in the park or to shovel snow, but I wouldn't call it a winter jacket if you live somewhere that drops into the low 30s regularly. Iowa might be in that middle ground where its fine, but I've heard that they sometimes get hard winters.
>>
>>64369952
Yeah every brown bear jacket I've worn has weirdly short sleeves for some reason, too.

A proper one isn't thin, nor is it just cotton, anon. The lining they're talking about isn't the liner.

>>64369954
If it's that old, it's probably worn down quite a bit and isn't trapping warm air as it should.

>"The NBC filters used in most current military CB masks present some potential problems to the user. Added resistance to airflow is the most significant problem, requiring increased breathing effort and producing various adverse respiratory sensations (ie, breathlessness). These filters occasionally produce ammonia, particularly in humid environments, which causes stinging, burning, and tightness of the chest that is only relieved when the wearer removes the CB mask. Also, inhalaion of the friable carbon is a possi- bility. Inhalation may produce deleterious health effects because Whetlerized carbon may contain copper, chromium, and silver, in addition to CB agent–contaminated carbon."
Well fuck the gas mask filters sound almost worse. And the chromium thing might be a little exaggerated but still true if the same process is used. I just wanted cool clothes.

Love me greek lizard, simple as. Larping as greek rambo is fun. Without the liner its good for early fall, the liner will get me through the winter without massive layering. Blue jeans and boots are a must with the m65.
