How do I stop hoarding ammo? I just buy ammo when it's on sale and sparingly shoot. It's like I saw how bad things could get in 2020 and refuse to have fun. When is enough enough?I have 4000 rounds of 92000 rounds of 453000 rounds of 5.56~50000 rounds of 22lrAnd maybe a couple thousand in 12 gauge.
>>64377348I get stockpiling for the happening, but that would be mostly 556 and maybe 762. Why stockpile pistol or shotgun ammo? Why stockpile 22?
What are you planning for? That's more ammo than most will shoot in a lifetime. Indulge yourself anon, ammo will always be around and all things considered its been stable in price.
>>64377348>I just buy ammo when it's on sale and sparingly shootI'll have to get back to you on this, lots to think about what you could change here.
>>64377367hunt small game to eat without obliterating them, or OP just wants to guarantee his ability to plink for the rest of his life.
>>64377348>How do I stop hoarding ammo?by shooting it! Is this a real question?
>>64377384>>64377376I know... it's just like I'm stuck in this mindsetThe solution is clear
Bring it to nuggetfest, I'll take care of it.
You don't. Those numbers are enough for a few good shooting trips and that's about it. A day in the desert can easily see shooting a few hundred to a thousand per gun per caliber easily. Think of it as always restocking instead of hoarding.
>>64377387I'm excited for your future, anon. good times ahead.
>>64377348I have a l lot more than that and I feel its BARELY enough for 'Just in case'
>>64377367the "happening" is far less likely to happen than some political bullshit that leads to panic buying or supply shortages. you've got shit backwards, retard
>>64377375Are you press? Other than the 22 that ammo will last a lot of folks a year at most
>>64377348well it beats steam games or funko pops or pokemon cards because it lasts forever and actually does something. If you stock up more than you'll ever shoot, is there an interested male relative who will take it when you're dead? When you lose the taste for life preserving shit for the next generation is something to do, though they'd rather have the cash.
It's a good mindset to have, but treat yourself. I want you to shoot a thousand rounds a year of anything in your stockpile except 22lr. Shoot 2000 rounds of 22lr. The guy that said supply shortages are more likely than an internal conflict is 100% correct
>>64377367Can’t reload 22…. Honestly that’s the main one worth stockpiling… the rest you might be better served getting a decent amount, then getting dies and a press and stockpiling components…
>>64377348>a couple thousand 12 gaugeBuck, slugs, or just cheap target shot?>everything elsePic related.
>>64377348>How do I stop hoarding ammo? Why should you stop? Don't stop. Keep it up, brother.
>>6437734810k rounds, rotated in 1k batches annually using FIFO principles, for every caliber. Forces you to go on range trips and maintains a sufficient stockpile.
>>6437768800 buck, maybe 500 slugs.
>>6437769710k is a lot. a shrimple man (like me) just buys two lots of a thousand and when one runs out, he buys another. Two is one, one is none and all that. Does a larger supply facilitate cheaper (per round) purchases?
Aside from the 22lr I don't see anything too strange here. There are far worse ways to spend your money. I doubt it will decrease in value.
>>64377711Nta that's a retarded amount of buck tbqhwy. Id stock bird shot instead, some ~100 buck ~100 mix nice defense slugs / bear defense slugs. My first thought was that honestly is much shotgun ammo for people who shoot clays or hunt but if you're just stocking buck you're doing neither really and there's way better guns for defense.>>64377348Id consolidate to stocking only 1 handgun load. Don't have to get rid of the guns you just don't need as much ammo for it.>50k 22lrThat's a lot of trigger time. Hopefully you've vetted the ammo to function in your guns. That's honestly such a nice stash I'd get something like a Ruger Single Ten and get rain man levels of autism with it.>3k in 5.56Retarded light. You spent a lot of money on 9mm,45, and even more worthless buckshot when you could've had a go to war stash. 3k in 5.56 is only a couple classes. My revamped counts would be:Pistol 1000 train/200 premium defense. (Maybe 200rds total for whatever your second like pistol caliber is)Shotgun above explanation Rifle 5k 5.56 baseline of ammunition of the same manufacturer and bullet weight. Rezero for every lot of 1k. Do not buy in sub 1k lot quantities or keeping a zero becomes a chore ime.
>>64377348What is really the point of hoarding outside of a year or two spell of increased demand or scarcity? If I had concerns about long-term supply chain issues or government restrictions I'd just put my money into getting good at reloading. Past the first 2k rounds I don't see what you're really accomplishing instead of accumulating tools and components
>>64377348try making a militia, instead of being a fat and retarded big boss cult of personality, or those nigs who unironically believe in Yakob and that everyone of importance was black untill it stopped at some point, set up a militia group as if it's a kung fu school. get friends, train them to shoot in various calibers until they're good enough. Don't approach this to survive a a big societal collapse that wont happen until 3/4'ths of boomers die out with a cult of personality. do it because everything in modern life charges people for it and you can give people a taste of life without that. The warlords of old and the third world just made armies of friends and family, make some
>>64377797Shooting 2k/yr is really entry level in the hobby. That's only 20 range trips shooting 100 rounds. Honestly you're barely shooting at that pace.
>>64377781Btw don't stock a retarded amount of bird shit either. You're obviously not a hunter so 500 or so should be okay.
The 22lr is... lol just kinda stupid. But it's still only like 2k in ammo so whatever floats your boat
>>64377348I don't think you should stop. It's a more useful store of wealth than gold, you're investing in chaos.
>>64377348I wish I had the money to waste on ammo.
>>64377348Who would store ammo like that? Leaving in the boxes is better, what a mess.
>>64377982It's just as loose in those bulk boxes.
>>64377715>Does a larger supply facilitate cheaper (per round) purchases?Usually, yeah. The ammo dealer I bought my initial stock of 9mm from gave me an extra discount because I got 10k rounds and gave him cash. For the annual restock, I just buy whatever reputable brand is on sale at the time, since I shoot different calibers at different times.
>>64377400Based. I have one 380 I never carry and a collectible .38 Colt and I feel like I still need 500 reds minimum for each. I probably have about 750 12 ga.but having 5 shotguns I want another 250.
>>64378258Where did you buy the metal ammo vans?
>>64378332*Cans
>>64377348Accept that for you and most people on /k/, owning guns is a sexual fetish thing, and not a "hobby" or "sport" thing. Once you do, you will feel liberated, "out of the closet" if you will. There are many others like you. They even hold "rallies" (parades) and "gunshows" (cons).
>>64377431>though they'd rather have the cashI'm sure someone has compared the rise in ammo costs to the rise in gold. Both remain a far better store of value than the US greenback. Biggest difference is that ammo stashes get sold off by widows who don't know what it's worth and just want it gone.>>64377414>>64377375>That's more ammo than most will shoot in a lifetime. Is still true.
>>64377348Too much ammo is when a small house fire or small medical emergency leads to a news article about how medical workers or firefighters couldn’t enter your home due to the “stockpile” of ammunition
>>64377367>Why stockpile 22I'll be doing that as soon as someone releases a chassis and reliable drum mag for the tx22
>>64378411STFU
>>64377367>he didn't live through the great 22 shortages of the early/mid 2010s
>>64377348Shoot more.Also that's a good stash but not really a horde. You're fine.
>>64377348you dont. this is the cheapest ammo will ever be in decades if you arent hoarding and stockpiling it now you are a cuck. its literally 2006 again for ammo zoomtards should count themselves lucky that at least they have soemthing affordable right now. plus kikes are going to 9/11 us again and force us to go to war so if you want to avoid the ukraine style draft kidnappings you will want nice stockpiles of amom
>>64377375thats literally a 3 day weekend of training at the range faggot
>>64378594so make sure you stock up zoomtards. in 2 years youll be looking at todays prices and wondering how shit went up 10x in cost so fast
>>64378411Anon… you do store your ammo safely right? Like inside of a metal container of some kind?
>>64378411How would EMTs know you have too much ammo and can't enter? Firefighters at least makes sense, because in the case where they would enter (shit's on fire, yo), they can hear ammo popping off in the fire, and know not to go in. But how are EMTs supposed to get that info?
>>64377375I shoot around 3000/yr of 9mm and 12k/yr approx of 22lr, it's not enough.
>>64378348Nobody here actually shoots, they take pics of their expensive hole puncher to get le updoots on plebbit
>>64377348I dont think 4k of 9mm is hoarding. I go through 1500 a month lol. Sign up for a local USPSA match and start doing proper live fire every weekend, it goes pretty fast.Probably dont bother continually buying a gorbillion 12ga and 22LR shit. You've got enough of that.
>>64378594Well. you sound like just the kind of sound minded person I should take advice from.https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/6107be97-7155-4ed8-99a7-11e063347ba6
You should try to remember that nitrocellulose powders have shelf life of about 10 years before they start breaking down to nitric acid and shit. This can be extended by some secret sauce stabilizers and laquer sealing on the primer and the case mouth. It bothers me how some ww2 ammo is still fine while 2015 commercial ammo rots away. I bet the stabilizer got banned by EPA or some shit. To be safe all your non mil ammo should be circulated out and replaced with fresh stuff at 10 year cycle.
>>64378332Either eBay or Amazon, all new, usually in 4 or 6 pack bundles to lower the cost.
>>64377348Good numbers.
What's the harm? Ammo seems to be an okay way to bet against inflation at least.
>>64377348Now is the time to buy, if a democrat wins in 2028 prices will jump again when everyone panic buys, aside from that inflation will keep prices rising so now is probably as good as it gets for a while. Thats not even that much. Also shoot more, its fun
>>64379120Ass
>>64377348Keep hoarding. Def get more 556 but also hoard all types. Dont listen to the fools saying to limit it to 9 and 556. If you have guns in other calibers you need ammo for them. Better to be able to fire 5 guns in a SHTF scenario than just two gun more often.
>>64379115>You should try to remember that nitrocellulose powders have shelf life of about 10 years before they start breaking down to nitric acid and shit. That's total nonsense. Any properly stored modern ammo should last longer than any of us will.
>>64383696its both nonsense and true. it depends on the powder
