Just dusted off my old copy of IL-2, yep it's flight sim time.Any other /flight simmers/ here? Watchu flying?
I need to renew my MEP-IR, so I'm going to boot up XPlane in a few days and try and save some money on training. For proper milsim stuff, I always end up bouncing off the head tracking systems, since proper situational awareness needs at least 180 degree views, preferably 270. I bought a VR headset a few years back, but I didn't have time to set up a flight sim system at the time. I might go ahead and do that this time around. Also worth mentionning, I have no idea how I'm supposed to look at charts and write 9-lines if I have a VR headset on. WTF do you do?
I've sort of lost interest in a lot of sim games recently, the closest I've been to it is reforger and nuclear option. Both are fine, but hardly compete in terms of actual quality depth to the proper sims out there, but I just can't get the desire up to play them anymore.
I was talking to my wife the other day about IL2 and I wanted to show her a cool machinima from back in the dayThe video was fucking 18 years oldI feel fucking old
>>64379160>Plays IL-2>Has wifeSomething doesn't add up here?
>>64379529We are both very, deeply autistic
Still can't properly hit with the Ju-87B in 1946.I am always either a bit too short or over and I don't fucking know why. I think I kind of shake or pull too hard into a direction prior to release.
>>64378693I played that game so much as a kid.Couldn't afford a joystick so I was using WASD and time slowdown baby mode to be able to hit anything.I liked the Finnish campaign with the Brewster Buffalo. How can you not be romantic about that little piece of shit aircraft that the Finns were scoring like 40:1 in?I remember the enemy AI would eventually fuck up if you wasted their time in a neverending vertical corkscrew turnfight.Pic is whatever the hell came up when I attempted an image search.
>>64379743Use the window in the floor to watch the ground. Fly just past your target then close your radiator, set your prop pitch to like 70-80%, deploy your air brakes, invert, and pull back into a dive. Use your gunsight and hold it roughly one tick 'above' your target from your perspective and wait for the auto release and pullup. I like to set the auto release height a little lower than default, like 200-300 meters, the control to adjust it in game is the "bombsight up/down" keybind IIRC. You might need to adjust your bomb fusing too, I generally got best results setting it for 'short delay' but I'm not 100% on how the game actually models that.
>>64378693The first sim I played was 'YS flight simulator'Not because I'm old enough to have been playing the latest sims in 2000, but because it came on a CD of 100 shitty shovelware and pirated games from the dollar store or a cereal box or something.Out of all those shitty games it was the one I could immediately tell was something special even though it looked so old.I just googled it and it was apparently the product of a Japanese student's autism. I always imagined some retired air force boomer making it for some reason.
>>64378693god I fucking love IL-2I still have my dads old microsoft sidewinder 2 joystick that we used to play withI remember spending hours just reading through all the entries in the entity model list and being in awe of how cool everything was, wish more games had stuff like that
>get BF-109 K-4 with 3x30mm cannon>Select 4x B-29 bombers as enemy with no escort>one shot kill all B-29sdamn, that game was fun.
>>64378693I loved using the German X2 rockets or whatever they were.. wire guided missiles in 1940s is WILD shit. I remember the first time I used one I was guiding it towards a B-29 or B-52 or whichever is the HUGE american bomber from the 40s and slug one of those bad boys from like 2km away, watched the little flares get further and further away.. starting to think i'll miss and then the bomber just fucking explodes into every piece it can break into lmaothe newer IL-2 just isn't as good.. the old game had SO MUCH stuff and different planes with all their interesting equipments
>>64379743Count to 12 or 15 after your target is past the floor window and roll over to dive. I generally end up in a 90° dive when I do that.
How much gear do you have to have for flight sims? I remember having a cheap joystick some years back and trying to play one, can't remember which, but I never could even figure out how to get off the ground.
>>64380249I got really good at the X-4 Ruhrstahls in dogfights too. Once you learned how to properly lead them they were deadly. It's been a long time since I've played 1946. I am mostly a DCS Autist now (It physically pains me that the Strike Eagle will never be finished), with some MSFS thrown in. I am also really excited to see where Nuclear Option goes because what we have now is breddy gud.
>>64380410I have played IL-2 and DCS just fine with a basic Logitech 3d Extreme ProNot ideal but most cockpit shit is clickable so you can use your mouse for that
>>64380878Should be playing BMS brudda
>>64381028I'm in way too deep to drop it now, friend.
>>64381317No, you aren't. Stop letting ED fuck you
EAW was the superior air sim.
>>64378693>Watchu flying?We fly drones.Welcome to future, boy.
>>64379552I bet she drives a sports car too, huh champ?
