What do we think about this gun, is it worth the sub 2k price for a fully customizable one or for that price there are much better options?

Perry the Platypus is worth a hell of a lot more than 2k.

Platypus 1911, takes glock mags.

I see. There's a lot of competition in the 2011 market right now and a lot of it is ludicrously overpriced. It is better to wait for the fad to blow over slightly because more reasonable options are gradually rolling out. Dropping 2 stacks for any pistol is ridiculous.

The only reason to get a Platypus was that a few CA FFLs did SSE conversions prior to the Glock mag Staccatos getting on-roster, so you could get a 2011 that used the extended Glock mags you got during Freedom Week 1.0. Now with the Staccatos being on roster and actually cheaper/more available there's no real point.

The better option is to parts out and build it yourself to your exact specs. Many slide companies will cut to your order and 2011 frames go for around $300 or so. If you go with quality parts like EGW, Wilson, Ed Brown, C&S, etc. you will still likely come to less than $1500 and have a far better gun than most manufacturers. If you buy deals and sales you can drop the price even further to near $1000-1200.

if you're paying 2k you may as well just get a stacatto.

What's the best way to build out a classic looking 2011?
>>
>>64380867
Bersa 1911 is better and looks nicer

How classic you want it? People are selling OG M1911/A1 slides all the time on ebay that you can pick up for a few hundred. If you go that route you're gonna be building it in .45. In that case make sure your barrel matches your frame in regards to it being non-ramped or what kind of ramped. There are two being Wilson/Nowlin or Para/Clark/(Lissner). I personally prefer P/C because it is a bit more common than W/N and it supports more of the case letting you shoot hotter loads. It also feeds HP and SWC far more reliably than frame ramps do for the most part. Retro thumb safeties, slide stops, grip safeties, and hammers are all available as repros or new old stock from various sources. You can't really get classic looking grips due to the nature of them but i suppose you can mask and paint the gen1 STI grips to look like wood and steel since those look the closest to the diamond wood grips. Other than that you can replace the mainspring housing for either a flat or arched depending on your preference but you have to make sure it's a housing for a 2011 and not 1911 since they aren't the same.

Bro stacattos are going for 5-10k almost infinity money.
>>

If you are paying that much for a basic bitch stacatto you deserve to get fleeced. 2011s built with the best quality forged and cnc'd parts and a match barrel would maybe get to $2000. It would be a better shooter than you and be in the 1% of custom 2011s.

NTA but what is the difference between OP's gun vs a 2011? IIRC the platypus is a 1911 right?
>>
>>64382684
The platypus is a full size double stacked aluminium frame 1911 that takes either glonk mags or 320 mags. They also only come in 9mm from factory. You should be able to change it to .38 super. Unknown if you can swap to 10mm or .45 due to magazine fitment/compatibility. 2011's have a half frame that is either aluminium or steel and then a modular grip that can be polymer, aluminium, or steel. Mags are usually compatible across brands although you should always check to make sure and any caliber mag fits any grip. The top slide end of 2011s nowadays is usually in 9mm, but you can part it out as said before and make it any reasonable caliber you actually want with enough effort and research on your part.
