Why did no one tell me the STG44 rounds were so thicc?
>>64385054If you have one and wanna do something fun, they do fit in a .45.
>>64385054Just look at the magazine length
>>64385054gen1 assault rifle rounds are just shortened full power ones so they could use the same tooling.
>>64385054because the germans had their machine gun ammo 7,92x57mm, and they just thought "Yeah, it's a good bullet, but the gunpowder amount is too big. So just cut the lenght and gunpowder amount down to the levels where it's manageable, while keeping the rest of the ammo the same. And that's it. That's how "intermediate" cartridges were born. It wasn't the full sized machinegun/hunting rifle bullet, nor it was the smaller pistol bullet. it was something in between. It was a rifle ammo that was just shortened and reduced in power, so it could be "just rifght for one-man automatic gunner.
Probably to reuse the casing forging machines and primers. An alternative would be an extra long 9mm Parabellum
>>64385054It's not thick, it's stubby.
>>64385523The soviets took this concept and just ran with it. They took their 7,62x54 moist nugget ammo, and just ...made it shorter and less powerful. And that became 7,62x39mm (well, they did change the rimmed cartridge to rimless for ease of operation, but otherwise you really didn't need to do much else. So it was a cheap, functional solution that fit the rest of the gun manufacturing scheme)
>>64385529What is the longest non-wildcat 9mn? Dillon?>(Pic unrelated, I thought coonan or AMT made a dillon since they made one in 30 carbine.)
>>64385587Kinda, revolvers cartridges can be longer, similar o a larger .30 carbine or picrel
>>64385523>just cut the lenght and gunpowder amount down to the levels where it's manageable, while keeping the rest of the ammo the same. They also massively reduced bullet length and weight.
>>64385587These look retarded as hell with that reverse taper on the frame that narrows towards the bottom.
>>64385054They're also weirdly tiny. The mouth/end of the case of a 7.92x33 just reaches the point almost exactly at the base of the neck/top of the shoulder of a 7.62x39. Diagram so you get what I mean because I had to double-check my wording. No one seems to mention that, and yes I know 33mm is shorter than 39 but it's not something I really ever thought about before I found a round for cheap and compared for myself.>>64385073Really? I don't have a .45 and I don't want to wreck an original round but neat if true, if kinda useless considering how rare 7.92 is in the US, lol.>>64385656Are you sure it's actually narrowing or is it just a "Vertec 1911", lol.
>>643850548mm kurz is like a caricature of 7.62x39.Looks like it belongs in metal slug.Feel the same way about .50 GI to .45 ACPhelps that it even has the ballistics of cartoon .45 ACP
