holy shit google image search got enshittified making it impossible to find pic related anymore. Anyway, why were night sights dropped during the move from the M16A1 to the A2? Obviously this became mooted by the introduction of illuminated optics like red dots and the acog. some of the m16a1 manuals reference tritium front sight night sights with the flip rear sight peep replaced by a bigger peep, not unlike the a2 sights, for use at night. I think one of the fags on the a2 committee coped on arfcom that the unusable 0-200m large aperture on the A2 sight was intended for use with tritium night sights and the plan was to replace them with the A1 peeps in the event front sight night sights weren't issued. It seems like contemporary rifles like the Famas and Galil both retained their night sights far longer and the bongs did a lot of fighting in the falklands at night because the argies didn't have night vision. Did they just use those fuck huge night vision scopes bolted to the top rail or something?
