I have lived in Japan for a few decades, and I am thinking about buying a gunto bringback, because I can appreciate the provenance behind them. Is there a place /k/ recommends for obtaining such swords?

Picture sort of related.

Ebay. Might be fake, but then you'll probably have an even higher quality reproduction than the original.

Per my previous post, I'm interested in it for its history, not as a weapon.

It's a bit of an odd request because Japanese sword collectors/appreciators tend to look down on them as junk. They are by far the cheapest and least respected of all Japanese blades. Asking sword nerds where to get one of those is like going to a classic car show and asking if anyone knows where you can get a rusted out 1984 Datsun.

Now the good thing about that is that people rarely bother to fake them as happens with nicer swords. I couldn't tell you if their prices are fair or not but I've seen many gunto at Collector' Firearms.

Collector's is probably the largest gun store in Houston. Half the store is modern stuff, the other half of the store is basically a museum with price tags. Fun place.

You should check on Militaria websites, I've seen one that I usually frequent that had some from bringbacks with provenance, those sights will be you best bet to find a gunto bring-back

Unfortunately gunto's are staring to get faked as well https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/19914-fake-type-95-nco-swords/
