Realistically, how would NATO actually respond if 100 armed men in civilian clothing cross over the border into Estonia and take over a few houses?
>>
>>64392187
They would kill the invaders and send more aid to Ukraine.
>>
>>64392187

>>
>>64392197
The problem is if they just decide it's so small that Estonia can handle it and then do nothing
>>
>>64392187
If it's just a small incursion, they might be dissuaded by the big dogs to not even activate Article 5.
So, just some meetings and strong words for Kremlin.
>>

This anon gets it. Right now the Baltic wall is very effective for NATO countries without much power to consolidate in specified battle groups against a weakened Russian state. Zapad 25 was nothing more than a desperate attempt to save face.

Good example is Latvia. In Latvia, you have a small consolidation led by Canada that allows them to gradually build up infrastructure on a previously limited gdp contribution. This also allows NATO to conduct multinational exercises much easier than flying everyone over a few times a year

Exactly. So to make it clear, i'll repeat
>>64392197
>would kill the invaders and send more aid to Ukraine

The big problem for Baltics are Air and Sea power. There's limited long range force projection capability and depth for massed land attack. But they're very well equipped and trained for conventional ground conflict that matches their size.

So while Putin is known for salami slicing, without some strategic aspect to it it wouldn't work there even without NATO and Article 5.
>>
Do people not realize NATO letting Estonia handle it is just code for NATO not responding to a fucking ground invasion of a member state?

Russians historically desire to be subjugated by big powerful lords. The Soviet collapse and weakness of the 90s revealed their government could never properly fill that void. Hence why they're so desperate for NATO to conquer them. Basically

>>
>>64392187
>how would NATO actually respond if 100 armed men in civilian clothing cross over the border into Estonia and take over a few houses?
That's such a nothingburger it'd be irrelevant. NATO would just express support for Estonia, condemn monke again, while Estonia police arrests/shot them all. There'd be more push for hardening up sanctions further, subtle glowy retaliation, quicker liquidation of Russian assets that are captured, etc etc, I'm sure creative geopolitical folks can come up with all sorts of use for it. But unless the men in civilian clothing come with heavy armor it's barely even a military matter. Estonia isn't a tier 1 military but they sure aren't THAT weak.

It's officially Frances nuclear policy, they retain a position of "nuclear warning shots".

>The Air-sol moyenne portée (ASMP; lit.'Medium-Range Air-to-Surface') is a French nuclear-armed air-launched cruise missile manufactured by MBDA France. In French nuclear doctrine, it serves what is referred to as a "pre-strategic" deterrence role. It is intended to be the ultimate "warning shot" prior to the full-scale employment of the strategic nuclear weapons arming the Triomphant-class ballistic missile submarines.

Attacking from Narva seems basically impossible. Soviets lost 666k men there in half a year and only got through because the krauts started to pull out while Estonian volunteer SS units held it with 10k men vs 3 army groups. If you cross the Narva river you will straight up have to go through 20km of bogland or attack straight into 3 hills from open plain.

NATO would:

1) Rally algorithmic support and organic grassroots messaging to suppress FALSE NARRATIVES that the CIA or MI6 was behind such an event
2) Provide community based counseling and aid services for those displaced or impacted by the attack
3) Commit to a fact based approach that centerpieces the need to spread awareness of the event, while simultaneously developing a robust counter-narrative for both Russian attempts to downplay the seriousness of the event, and populist attempts to downplay the need for considerable funding and commitments in response.
