Realistically, how could a naked Filipino beat a Spaniard soldier with a shield and full plate armor?

Since when did SEAmonkeys discover steel?

The Spanish killed 7,000 Incas at the Battle of Cajamarca and suffered literally no loses (only an African slave got killed). That means the average Spaniard was slaying AT LEAST 40 Inca warriors

That's 40K space marine vs regular human king of shit. Must have been fun

Literally impossible

Estimates for the population of Mexico, Central, and South America before the European conquest in 1492 vary, but a common figure is around 37 to 60 million people across the Americas, with estimates for the specific regions including around 6 million in the Aztec Empire, 5-10 million in the Mayan States, 11 million in Brazil, and 12 million in the Inca Empire.

If people think the Holocaust was impossible with trains, concentration camps, gas Chambers and machine guns imagine getting rid of at the very least 40 million people with swords and shitty firearms that take forever to reload

The "naked" Filipino can simply fire their cannons at the Spaniards wearing shields and full plate armor, since the Portuguese who came to the Philippines first, noted that Filipinos used cannons in addition to martial arts in their military operations across Southeast Asia, when they arrived

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luzones

>When the Portuguese arrived in Southeast Asia in the early 1500s, they witnessed the Luzones' active involvement in the political and economic affairs of those who sought to take control of the economically strategic highway of the Strait of Malacca.

>Fernão Lopes de Castanheda, in História do descobrimento e conquista da Índia (Lisbon, 1551) Vol. 1, pp. 201–205 (Livro V, cap. 34), Malacca garrison (1511–20s); wrote as such:

>Portuguese records show Lução soldiers in every garrison of Malaca, prized for their seamanship and ferocity in skirmishes with the Johor fleet.

>For instance, the former sultan of Malacca decided to retake his city from the Portuguese with a fleet of ships from Lusung in 1525.[22]

>And it was written in Gaspar Correia's, Lendas da Índia (Acad. das Ciências de Lisboa, 1858–64) Vol. 1, pp. 312–318 (Livro III, cap. LV) Malacca restoration (1526):

>When the Sultan of Malacca fled, he took refuge with a Luções chieftain; fifty Lução ships then returned him to power, fighting their way through Johor’s blockade.

>The Luzones had military and commercial interests mainly across Southeast Asia with some minor reach in East Asia and South Asia, so much so that the Portuguese soldier Joao de Barros considered the Luções who were militarily and commercially active across the region, "the most warlike and valiant of these parts."[28]

This version of the fight always seemed like the armored guy, supposedly a knight, was holding back. Makes sense if he's winded, but an actual Knight in his physical prime would basically be able to tank blows while individually cutting down each guy. If each peasant had a mace maybe they could bumrush him and ring his bell hard enough to take him down but Knights would have trained to take out common weapons like spears easily since a spearman has to hope their spearhead is thin enough to get into a weakspot not covered by chainmail.

>how could a naked Filipino beat a Spaniard soldier with a shield and full plate armor?
most people guess that they aimed for the legs,
magellan was recorded to have had his arms and legs hit

also sheer number
there were at least a thousand filipinos against less than a hundred spanish, the spanish also left their native allies on the boats further reducing their numbers
at that point, force concentration hits a peak and theres no way for each spaniard to engage a native without a second or third attacking him from the sides and getting a hit on an unarmored part

“Alright lads, we’re going to the Caribbean. We’re British. Big fleet. Big army. Rich Spanish city. What could possibly go wrong?”

The Cast:

British: Admiral Edward Vernon, basically a man who thinks shouting “big ships, bigger guns” is a strategy. Around 186 ships and 27,000 troops. So, like, a small floating city with ambitions.

Spanish: Blas de Lezo, one-eyed, one-armed, one-legged legend. Think: pirate wizard but official. Defending Cartagena with ~6,000 troops. Basically, the ultimate underdog meme.

Phase 1: The “We’re Here, We’re Huge” Moment
The Brits sail up, guns shining, cannonballs probably polished. Vernon decides to land at Boca Chica, the narrow entrance to Cartagena. Spanish say: “Cool, we built a fort here, called Fort San Felipe, and it’s basically a brick-wall nightmare.”

Phase 2: The Siege That Isn’t
British try to blast the fort into submission. They’ve got cannons bigger than Blas de Lezo’s entire skeleton. But… oops. Spanish walls + expert placement + tropical storms = cannonballs mostly hitting the sand or missing completely. Vernon’s army is cooking in the Caribbean sun, sweating like a recruit in boot camp, while Spanish defenders are basically chilling and repairing walls between sips of rum.

Phase 3: Disease, Disasters, and Desertions

Yellow fever and dysentery show up like uninvited guests, killing thousands of British soldiers.

Supplies are late. Boats get lost. Ships run aground. Vernon probably spends half his time writing letters whining to London.

Morale: negative infinity. Soldiers mutter things like “Why the hell did we leave England for this?”

Phase 4: Blas De Lezo Flex

The Spanish general Lezo moves like a chess grandmaster.

Counterattacks? Easy. Hit-and-run raids? Yep. British army starts looking like a clown car of chaos.

Vernon finally realizes sending 27,000 men against 6,000 Spaniards behind walls isn’t a guaranteed win.

Phase 5: The British Retreat

1/4 dead.

Spanish win.

>>64396556
The Philippines was part of the Old World so steel, gunpowder, didn't exactly scare off the native tribes as they had all of those. Sure Spanish armor & guns were better, but in the 1500s & 1600s, a time when transporting huge forces across oceans was not possible AND when most Spaniards were fine with settling in America AND when Europeans died like flies from tropical Asian diseases, there were too few Spaniards & willing to travel, live & stay in the Philippines to make a pure military conquest of the Islands possible. Hence diplomacy by the Friars did the heavy lifting in Spanish Colonial efforts as Spanish Catholic priests negotiated with weaker tribes & converted/united enough of them under the Spanish banner to make colonialism possible.

Then there was also logistics. European swords were made by blacksmiths steeped in European swordsmithing traditions and (most importantly) European plate armor needed a lot of skilled work & infrastructure to repair and these were skills & infrastructure that simply wasn't fucking present in the Philippines. All the European trained blacksmiths and armorers are in fucking Latin America and too few if not 0 of em were willing to live in the Philippines, the furthest & most dangerous colony of Spain's. Logistically this meant that any piece of sophiticated armor or weaponry brought from Europe would eventually degrade over use in the Philippines with precious little resources to repair them. In addition to other factors like the climate & small scale local warfare, these led the Spaniards to armor-down: wearing only breastplates/helmets, chainmail shirts (easily repairable), and more interestingly: used whatever local gear available like Sino-Japanese weapons & armor and Aztec Quilted armor (that was actually good for the shitty tropical climate).

The Spanish Soldier in the Philippines was less the glittering Tercio of continental Spain and more like some lightly armored RPG character with mishmash arms & armor.

Not sure what you're talking about (unless you mean Belgian Congo, which was a French/German affair), but Dutch colonial policy was a result of us simply not having the numbers to do "proper" colonization. So we were stuck with keeping the local princes in charge and making them do what we told them, which isn't conductive to large scale Christianization and Westernization.

they would have always been a power in Europe due to their size and population.
but getting the first pick of the Americas made them a true global power. only for them to then start squandering most of it on the 30 year and above all 80 year wars.
if anything the greatest contribution Spain made to the rest of the world was teaching the rest of us how not to run and ruin an economy.
something that probably wouldn't have happened if Charles V hadn't dismissed all his Flemish advisors because some catalans got pissed. because unlike the people that insist on placing a guy taking a dump in their nativity scenes the Flemish did know how to run an economy.
>>
>>64399916
By the time Charles V became king, Spain was already the strongest and richest state in Europe, controlling also south Italy, Sardinia, and Sicily. The conquest of the Americas was ongoing and everything seemed peachy.

It took spaniards 700 years to recover from the misrule of germoid visigoths, but then they made the fatal mistake of giving the crown to fucking germoid Habsburgs who didn't even speak spanish or cared about Spain, and were retarded even before being visibly inbred. So the nascent Spanish Empire civic and economic institutions were dismantled for a centralized machine to fuel riches into useless Habsburg wars for worthless wastelands and stupid religious feuds.
Meanwhile Spain itself became impoverished and fell behind.

If the Castillian revolt against Charles V had been succesful and a real spanish dinasty ruled the Empire, things would have been very different.

They did, but way less because europeans had already developed better resistance after millenia of exposure to diseases cooked in big population centers across eurasia.
Since most native americans died of foreign diseases without never have been in contact to conquistadors and settlers, these were also less exposed.

Syphilis was the only significant american disease that had an impact in Europe, and that was probably because it was slow and easily hidden at first, so infected people was able to travel back without dying of fever in route.

I think the bigger problem with the "beasts of burden" argument is that there is a shit load of different species in Africa. We can argue about whether or not it's hypothetically possible to domestic zebra, but why stop at just zebra/

Africa has native oxen, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, there's pretty an analog much every farm animal except horses. In fact, some of them were domesticated, African cattle cultures go back thousands of years. And yet significant civilization never appeared, for the most part, and the ones that did never made it even close to the sophistication of European or even North African and Middle Eastern culture.

Considering how the Luzones from Luzon Island, Philippines; were able to even dislodge the Portuguese and Johoreans from Malacca and return the former Sultan to Power...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luzones

>And it was written in Gaspar Correia's, Lendas da Índia (Acad. das Ciências de Lisboa, 1858–64) Vol. 1, pp. 312–318 (Livro III, cap. LV) Malacca restoration (1526):

"When the Sultan of Malacca fled, he took refuge with a Luções chieftain; fifty Lução ships then returned him to power, fighting their way through Johor’s blockade."

...When Filipino Luzones were even able to massacre the Portuguese and restore the Malaccan Sultan, who had the same technology as the Spaniards...

...And it's Malacca the world's most valuable trade artery!

"Whoever is Lord of Malacca has his Hand on the throat of Venice"?

~Tome Pires

It's chump change for them, specifically Lapu-Lapu's men, to kill Ferdinand Magellan. What really won the Philippines for Spain was not the outnumbered Spanish soldiers some were even not full Spaniards but a bunch of Mexican teenagers; but rather, Spanish priests who shrewdly applied diplomacy and used the Hindu Kingdoms against the Muslim Kingdoms vs the Animist Kingdoms of the Philippines and etc. and made these internal divisions a recruitement crowd to conquer the archipelago.

Had Spain not have native allies; it would be another massacre like how the Cebuanos massacred Ferdinand Magellan's fleet, or how Luzones massacred the Portuguese and Johoreans and briefly restored the Sultan of Malacca to power. People keep on romanticizing isolated Japan or Korea as great warriors but even greater feats were done in Southeast Asia.
