I know how /k/ feels but Russians really do make the coolest firearms. Mainly due to corruption and trying to make anything that will stick for ez rubles.
>>
I'm pretty sure a taboo factor is at play in addition to the guns having a unique style
>>
>>64397939
>multiple pro ruzzian threads popped up at the same time
that picrel is pretty cool doe, I'm surprised FSB bots don't shill it more
>>
AK's are cool looking, but the platform is outdated as fuck. To get an AK to have modern shit on it makes it weight way more than an equivalent AR.
>>
>>64397965
>>multiple pro ruzzian threads popped up at the same time
Where?
>>
>>64397939
They seem cool because they're whacky and different. They also don't work properly because they're whacky and different (in addition to usual reasons for Russian stuff not working properly). Picrel and the entire design family are a great example. Subsonic "sniper rifles" with terrible bullpup triggers, a 2.2kg pistol, a sniper rifle based on an AK action with a 2 inch barrel (before porting)... So much of the dumb shit Russia does with small arms could never happen in a country with common civil firearms ownership.

The "cool" factor is novelty. The novelty comes from doing something that is such an inherently shit idea that no one else does it.
>>
>>64398006
Hey man they made rifle that instead of shoot 1 bullet it shoot 2 bullets at once. That means more damage.
>>
>>64398035
I played Stalker Anomaly a while ago and was thinking how cool the guns were and then I made this thread
>>
>>64398006
>a sniper rifle based on an AK action
this is inaccurate. there is an outward resemblance and similar controls, but they differ mechanically.
>>
>>64398035
The ammo one isn't Russia shilling, more of a nostalgic remembrance of CHEAP ammunition. Are you the eurotard soapboxing in that thread? If so, I hope you get a Russian bullet between your eyes

No, the internals are very similar as well, and all of the principles of operation are the same. It's only slightlt less similar than a Tabuk but much more similar than a SVD.
>>
>>64398104
I'm not going to wade into an argument about it, but Russian shit didn't make ammo expensive, Sandy Hook and the media-fueled perpetually heightened state of public anxiety did. I do think it's a thread made by a shill because framing it in terms if "Where is my Russian ammo?" instead of "Why did ammo prices never recover after Sandy Hook?" seems like an intentional reach.
>>
>>64398104
>Are you the eurotard soapboxing in that thread?
And no, I'm not. I haven't posted in that thread.

It's all so tiresome.
>>
>>64398156
Sandy Hook was definitely a shift. That was when even Mosins tripled in price. But I really don't remember the ammo situation being particularly bad until 2020. Russian ammo post 2020 to 2022 is irrelevant because wolf .223 was still .55 cents per round.
I blame 2020 as the finishing move
>>64398169

That's not at all what I said or implied; in fact, it isn't even close. If you're actually this retarded and ignorant then it's no wonder your beloved weapons subreddit went to hell.

I'm sorry anon. This board left behind its libertarianism for /pol/ nazism, it left its nazism for Russian hate and goreposting, and now it is leaving that for... something else.

Not sure what is next at this point.

Nah, for example 9mm quadrupled in price overnight from Sandy Hook and never fully recovered. There are other charts out there with other calibers and stuff. Prices had been rising before then (the agitation I was talking about, not clear whether it's externally driven or just emerging from social media adoption) but Sandy Hook was a watershed moment.

>only sided with Ukraine because it reminded them of the Gazan underdog
/k/ predominately sided with Ukraine because Russian shills have been thumping their chests for decades about stronk Russia is; so when they fell flat on their face everybody pointed and laughed. Once that happened the shills doubled down to save face, which only made people hate them more. It's simple really.

When you reach your enemy's capital city and get pushed back to that fifth of the territory while also losing an uncountable amount of troops, it is a humiliating defeat.
Let me guess, are you going to say they never lost Kiev?

I like my KP-9 but it is a shame the design is disposable. Allegedly the Russians would get 20k rounds through them before the receiver was fucked and they’d just replace it with a new one. There’s no spare parts for them in the US anymore, so you’re shit out of luck if something breaks unless K-USA ever comes back.

No it's like if America invaded Mexico and failed fucking miserably.
>>
>>64398294
I mean, it's literally just a matter of time before the Russian empire collapses in on itself.
There was a chance for them to end the war on favorable terms, there was a possibility they could have salvaged their economy and kept the system chugging along, but that time has long since passed.
Russia is completely unable to disrupt long range drones from entering their country, the rate at which key infrastructure like oil refineries and weapon factories has accelerated; it is a mathematical certainty that Russia will run out of steam, and that calculation gets more and more unfavorable by the day.

The mask that lets you pretend to be a human being instead of a mouthpiece for Russian propaganda. Their crew served stuff is fine from the DShK to anything which fires the 14.3mm even the PTRD. Their sub-machineguns were also good during WW2 and would be fine with modern manufacturing making mags which would work in any gun. There is also that 4 gauge shotgun which is made from reprocessed anti-material barrels. Russia can make fun and often effective small arms, and even small artillery. The issue is more that the entire structure of their military undermines their natural advantages. If you had good crew served weapons and artillery you should focus on maximizing the logistical support for those weapons and encouraging the active use of them on the battlefield by everyone from local commanders to grunts. But commie shit and then post-commie paranoia meant that was impossible. Insane enthusiastic drunk slavs are exactly the kind of guys you want when it comes to actively engaging the enemy on their on initiative, but their passion is wasted by a system which not only doesn't reward or facilitate their behavior but punishes it.

An army of shitty but "good'nuff" weapons supported by a massive effective logistics train looks good on paper but was failed by the command and control structure in practice.

>What I do fucking care about is my income being parasitically drained to pay for it.
>So what's the argument now?
Your income isn't parasitically drained for it. Not one cent of it. It's funded by debt, and the debt is paid for by foreign citizens. The debt is repaid by more debt paid for by foreign citizens.

The foreign citizens voluntarily pay this extra-territorial tax to the US to act as the world's reserve bank and police/military force. The entire system relies on the US being a trustworthy and powerful party, since that's the key criteria for being either a bank or a police force people want. The US gets to roll in money as a result and enjoy the advantages of controlling the reserve currency, deciding the edge cases for rules enforcement and getting preferential prioritisation for policing.

The entire system is literally your wet fucking dream, but you've been conditioned to pretend it's not and hate it.

Last fully accounted year (2023) the US took $4.4t in revenue, only 2.2t of that in income tax, but spent 6.1t. For every dollar you contributed, a dollar was contributed by a transnational based in America to enjoy the benefits of the security guarantees described, and another dollar was contributed by voluntary, mostly foreign, taxpayers (bonds).

I will not entertain this conversation further. Stop gargling propaganda, swallowing a little, and spitting the rest out back into conversations like this. I already had to wait 10 minutes to post this because of a temp ban from your saar friends reporting me for off topic posting and trolling, in a thread where I'm the only fucking person who has made any actual on topic posts of greater than 0 value, so you can go and absolutely fuck yourself. You're either paid to troll this board with Russian propaganda, or you're so fucking conditioned by it that you reflexively do it without even realising what it is and what you're doing.

4chan's version of "safe for work" was always meant to be taken a bit loosely, and moot said as much back in the day. Someone else might have a screencap of it. Gore was always given some leniency here if it was specifically related to weapons and warfare. It's only after 2022 that I've seen people incessantly bitching about gore here, and only ever when it's Russians. They're as quiet when it's Ukrainians as they were when it was the Tongo Tongo ambush reposted 500 times.
>>
>>64398542
I already rejected you trying to change the topic onto an argument about jews or something, and what you posted has nothing to do with what I posted. America's government, and certainly military support to fuck Russia, isn't paid for by "gentile Americans plowing fields", it's mostly paid for basically voluntarily by (foreign) companies and the (foreign) bond market.

Slight correction:
A significant amount of pro-Ukraine Americans sided with Ukraine because the US government, mainstream media, and celebrities told them that a bunch of retarded slavs slapfighting halfway around the world was worth their money. A significant amount of pro-Ukrainian Europeans sided with Ukraine because their governments told them that they would be invaded next if they didn't, even though it's been fairly obvious for a couple of years now that Russia can't handle Ukraine, never mind the rest of Europe.

Aside from establishing the drone meta, the entire thing has been incredibly tiresome and wasteful. 1/5 stars would not give money to slavs again.

China using force of arms to get boots on the ground in the US AT ALL would be a turning point in world history because it would mean that the combined might of the US military - nuclear arsenal included - couldn't stop them storming across the entire Pacific and planting their flag whereas Russia not only dramatically outclasses Ukraine across the board by every metric aside from foreign goodwill and standard of living but forcibly annexed a sizable chunk of it in the last decade and shares a land border that is several thousand miles long.

I hate to break it to you but most of us really, REALLY don't care. I hope in a vague way that both Ukraine and Russia throw off their Soviet hangover and get their shit together so life there is worth living, but in the meanwhile I will continue to enjoy Russia's ongoing and abject humiliation simply because the Russians have made themselves incredibly easy to dislike, often intentionally.

The fucking phase of the moon probably has more impact on my life than some mobik getting cubed half a world away and as such I can just sit back and bask in the embarrassment of riches provided by Russian incompetence. Sturmladas, 40% of their strategic bombers going up in smoke, the sinking of the Moskva, Prigozhin's thunder run on Moscow, the de facto extinction of the VDV - it's all just so much sweet nectar to my soul after a lifetime of exposure to their smug, obnoxious self-promotion.

They have made SOME cool guns in the past. Key word being some. Even then, most of their stuff is outdated and only really good for historical value. CZ Scorpion? Yeah. Ak’s? No thank you.
Would I prefer a Russian gun over nothing in an apocalypse? Yes. Would I prefer it over a western made AWP, m4, strut, or an AR? Or hell even a beretta? No.

???
9mm can still be had for $204 per 1000 round brick shipped at sgammo.
Like .20 a pop. It's cheap shit magtech ammo and it's steel case, but it's there.
The $200 brick has been around the same baseline cost for 10-20 years even though we've had mega inflation since.
Really, taking inflation into account, it's the cheapest it's ever been.

Drones account for the majority of Russian field hospital occupancy, because their field hospitals are set up outside of artillery range but inside drone range. No one is going out to the front to recover a dying zigger from a bukhanka that got shelled and drag him back to the hospital.

It's disappointing because the chamber is so far ahead of the magazine. You could fit another 2" of barrel in there if you tried harder.
>>
>>64407378
Why are extreme designs like this pioneered, sometimes even beyond the proof of concept stage, and then abandoned immediately and forever? You'd think that with the decades of cumulative improvements in firearms design between then and now someone would eventually come along and reinvigorate the concept. I suppose the obvious answer is, "Because it's a shit idea," but if it works, it can be made reliable, and if it can be made reliable, it could confer a massive advantage. You could build one of these Soviet fever dream bullpups around an intermediate cartridge and you'd have exactly what the US is shopping for rn: long range, flat trajectory, large bullet, compact silhouette
>>
Is the PKM/PKP the only good Russian small arm (when judged against modern peers)? The AK platform in general isn't particularly well suited to modernization and the only thing going for it is how cheaply you can make them. PKM/PKP at least is very light for its weight class, though the shitty barrel change system is a minus. I know it beats itself to death because of how light it is, though I feel like not being able to have a machinegun of theseus isn't *that* big of a negative for anyone except penny pinchers in congress.
>>
>>64407928
The PKP is like 50 MOA. It's an emotional support weapon, designed to turn bullets into morale. It can't actually kill anyone outside 100 yards without getting exceptionally lucky.

this piston ammo for shotguns would be awesome, think about it. if you could make it reusable, even if not immiedietly, like you gotta take it home, degas it, reset it up, even if that shit was expensive, you just buy 4-6 of them, load yourself up 100% silent buckshot/birdshot and go hunting without having to worry about your own ears or scaring prey away. it would be perfect for fudds. and imagine having 6-8 of these for home defense. you get to fire a shotgun in enclosed spaces, in your home, kill home invaders dead and not even wake the neighbor. in that situation if you REALLY need to go past 5-6 shots, then fuck it, move to the loud stuff, your fighting 3-4 people anyways and better deaf then dead. the space you get in a shotgun shell should make it waaay easier to make a piston style round

Because it's cheaper to keep making what you are already making when what you are making already works well enough. Officers looked at not only this one but several prototype rifles made throughout the 1950s-1990s and said, oh well it is definitely functionally better than an AK, but not ENOUGH better to warrant replacing the inventory. This is exactly what happened to the XM8/G36 as well, so it is not a nation-specific issue. Also the same reason bullpups are doomed. Everyone has already standardized on the AR and AR-compatible parts. In order to actually force militaries to adopt new shit you need to either make a breakthrough in warfare to make the current gun extremely suboptimal or create a gun that is truly groundbreaking in a new way. And even in the latter case you can still fail at that if the new weapon suddenly loses all funding and interest due to collapsing enemies (G11). Shorter barrel lengths and 10% decreases in malfunctions are just not appealing enough to militaries for them to overhaul their tooling and aftermarket parts

It's honestly stupid simple. Basically you need something to slide backwards. Most rifles use gas for this. This gun does, cool. It also needs something to slide back again really fast at essentially the same time but gas is already used. Cool. Attach a pulley so the thing sliding back pulls a wire and slides another thing back at essentially the same time.

Cool. Problem solved.

Russians are really good at designing shit in the most simplistic way possible. What really let's them down imo is their materials tech and manufacturing sector is turd world tier.
>>
>>64397939
>Russians really do make the coolest firearms
They have a few, but not really. Germans and their ilk (Swiss, Nordics, Austrians) have them beat when it comes to ingenuity and actual combat effectiveness for the most part.
>>
>>64397939
Anything still based on old soviet shit is pure SOVL.
Nu Russia cannot into aesthetics.

>So much of the dumb shit Russia does with small arms could never happen in a country with common civil firearms ownership
That's a bit of an overstatement, the free market produces tons of whacky shit. Granted, companies that overdo it usually go under, but Keltec is still out there.
