What happened to the American firearm industry? How did we manage to allow Europe to surpass us? The U.S. has/is>the largest civilian gun market>the largest military >the most industrial of the western nations >a long history of firearm development and designers Colt: essentially dead, owned by CZ, a Czech companySpringfield Armory: the real one shut down in the 60’s, the modern one makes rides off of the fumes of the M1A and sells Glock alternative polymer pistols S&W: sells Glock alternative polymer pistols and entry level AR’sRemington: bankruptcy, makes Remington 700s that nobody buys anymore and 870sBrowning: basically owned by FN, really only makes hunting rifles and shotgunsWinchester: retro rifles and hunting shitThere are countless other basic bitch, midrange American firearms companies like Mossberg, ruger, savage, etc.The only area where American firearms arguably compete is in the AR market with companies like KAC, Geissele, LMT, DD, LarueWhy did we lose the military grade small arms race to FN, HK, Sig, Glock, Beretta, Benelli?
We never had it. American guns have always been meh. American ammo is where its at.
Production costs in the US are extemely high and wages are some of the highest in the world, so the only way a domestic manufacturer can make its money back is by charging a lot or cutting down on a productions/material costs. Often times they do both lmao. Just look at Remington, charging a lot for their basic, poor quality rifles that they keep trying to pump out in the hopes of getting something out of it, and in return they went bankrupt like twice
I would like to point out that a number of gun companies left Europe and reopened in the US.
>>64403656>Colt: In Mass, got regulated out of existence.>Springfield Armory: In Illinois, got regulated out of existence. Their purchase of the HS2000 and rebranding it as the XD saved the company>S&W: sells Glock alternative polymer pistols and entry level AR’sIn Connecticut, got regulated out of existence>Remington: Got private equity'ed out of existence>Browning: Really just a patent holder, nothing new since John Moses Browning died.>Winchester: Which version? They've been yoyoing in and out of bankruptcy seemingly forever.>Mossberg, Accidental, excuse me shotguns.>ruger, Old Man Ruger pissed off a lot of people. Their multiple runs at "this is the new hotness" are meh. (LCP is a clone of P32, etc)>savage,Got slurped up, husked, and spit out by Vista Outdoor.
>>64403656What about Ronnie Barrett in Tennessee?
>>64403681Sucks about Winchester, their Portugal model 70s from when they first moved there are probably the best rifles they ever made
Don’t really care about American brands. I’ll buy whatever works and is reasonably priced.
>>64403661>never had it The US produced the >1911, the best pistol until at least the 90s>AR-15/AR-15, literally the perfect combat rifle >all of John Moses Browning’s designs including the 1911, hi-power, BAR, M2, to name a few >M1 Garand, the best standard issue rifle of WW2
>>64403656Because they're stuck making the same three guns forever, rather than actually innovating and shit.
>>64403656>Why did we lose the military grade small arms race to FN, HK, Sig, Glock, Beretta, Benelli? All of those companies (idk about Benelli but they're owned by Beretta) produce firearms in the US now, and Sig in America is virtually a completely independent company from its counterparts in Germany and Switzerland. As for the homegrown companies, it's as >>64403681said. This is not to say that America doesn't produce top notch or innovative firearms, it's just that it's more often coming from smaller manufacturers that don't have notable military contracts rather than from the big names.
>>64403681>got regulated out of existence.what does that mean. Also the last tiem i looked they're still around and sell to both military and civilians?
>>64403681The Mercantile overlords strike down the artisan
complacencytimes change, you evolve or you die
>>64403656O-ooooh it's a thurd thread, shit i got baited hard.
>>64403656The us engineering culture is filled with a bunch of low iq rednecks like eugene stoner who cant engineer anything close to as good as what comes out of germany/austria/switzerland/czechia bc of low iq and no talent in physics. Look at ww2. The germans were making guns like the mg42 that the allies tried copy engineering from captured specimen with their tg 24 project but the failed miserably bc puritan irish rednecks suck at engineering.
>>64403656>Why did we lose the military grade small arms racewhat does this even mean? norinco is number one in this and has been for 70+ years
>>64403705>>1911, the best pistol until at least the 90sLol hi power which wasn't finished in America or Glock which was well before the 90s>>AR-15/AR-15, literally the perfect combat rifle Yeah after 3 decade of improvement. I was not perfect from the start and plenty of other guns were better than ar variants prior to pmag invention>>all of John Moses Browning’s designs including the 1911, hi-power, BAR, M2, to name a few Yeah no you can't credit all of jmb to America when he's licencing it worldwide.>>M1 Garand, the best standard issue rifle of WW2Ok thats valid
>>64403905le wonderwoppen!>gewehr 43 farts in your face
God I wish we could prevent any non-American IPs from posting.
>>64403669>the only way a domestic manufacturer can make its money backIt's less that, and more "The only way we can pay the entire C-suite millions of dollars a year and forward every cent possible to investors is to crank out slop garbage and overcharge for the name on the side of it, spend literally no money on R&D, tell our most experienced and capable machinists and other assorted employees to work for pennies or get the fuck out, and not pay down debt for years at a time."Innovation and quality of product are at odds with profiting hand over fist immediately and always have been. This is prevelant in every facet of American life now.You can see it everywhere, in everything.
>we
>>64403681>Old Man RugerIronically Ruger is the only one out of that list I'd probably still have no problem buying brand new.His policies fucked them over a bit, but they never slouched on quality of manufacturing, at least as much as all the rest.
>>64403681Boy, you are a Gloomy Gus.
>>64403682Aussies own Barrett now.
>>64405359How tf does Ronnie refuse to sell to Komifornia LEOs under Frist Amendment principals and sell out to gunless Oz?
>>64404004>Yeah no you can't credit all of jmb to America when he's licencing it worldwide.Uh, yeah you can. Or at least to Mormondom which is quintessentially American.
>>64403656It's not just guns. This is what happens when you replace your white population with spics and jeets >American video gamesGarbage, gets mogged by Japanese and euro developers>American musicGarbage, gets hard mogged by brits>American filmGarbage flicks with no substance
>>64406241each of the things you listed are their biggest in America
>>64406241>This is what happens when you replace your white population with spics Are spics in charge of the gun industry? Here I was thinking they were used for nigger cattle manual labor but apparently they pull the strings of power.>and jeetsThe US isn't Canada you arent credibly able to associate the US with indians.>>American video games>Garbage, gets mogged by Japanese and euro developersTell me you're a loser without telling me you're a loser.>>American music>Garbage, gets hard mogged by britsJohn Lennon got shot in the face and I find this funny.>>American film>Garbage flicks with no substanceThis is just cope as is everything else in this post.
>>64403656Protectionism, probably
We still have Keltec, even if it was founded by a crazy Sweede.
It's really sad that the last American handgun design worth a damn was the S&W 39/third gen, and they discontinued it to make nothing but knockoff Glocks. There are now multiple generations in adulthood who grew up only lusting after European pistols because none of the American designs could compete.
>>64405581Ronnie is over 70 years old and probably has traumatic brain injury from test firing his magnum opus
>>64403656>What happened to the American firearm industry? Almost 100 years of government sanctioned and enforced dampening of non-government experimentation and development- if you don't have a license (and scads of money and a government contract, and a congresscritter in your pocket), you cannot try out your ideas. Ever increasing media driven stigma against firearms and firearms ownership. The concept that "people interested in guns are creepy" has been pushed and pushed hard for over 50 plus years.Ever increasing anti-hunting and anti-shooting pressures from a variety of groups. At one point, it was common for schools to have shooting teams. Now that is something limited to a few schools in the south, and that's mainly trap and skeet. Not long range rifle, let alone smallbore NRA or olympic.Lastly you have the death of "shop class" in junior high and high school. All of the above have greatly dampened the fire of home gunsmithing this country used to have, and the damage wrought by such "progressive" thought has potentially damaged this nations manufacturing and defense industries.
>>64403681>Colt in Masswait, isn't colt in CT?
>>64403705The 1911 was already shit by 1957
>>64403656>What happened to the American firearm industry? How did we manage to allow Europe to surpass us?Unrestrained Capitalism and private equity funds. True innovation will never be possible when your only aim is running companies to the ground in order to maximize 5 cents more per share before moving onto the next company.
>>64403656the same reason why US agriculture sucks so much, it's lifestyle not a job like veteran employment. being a veteran doesn't make you better (or worse) at assembling a gun or doing quality control. but if you prefer to hire veterans you are basically doing DIE.it makes sense to be pro veteran as a part of the 2A lifestyle. but it doesn't as a business.Jack may have pissed in bottles for 4 years in Iraq but Susan has prior experience doing admin work. who's going to go trough that pile of paper work faster and with fewer mistakes?>>64407304all of those also apply to Europe and more often in a far greater extent
>>64407304>The concept that "people interested in guns are creepy" has been pushed and pushed hard for over 50 plus years.not true since the coof, now every retard thinks civil war is gonna happen any minute now and guns have effectively become apolitical
The USA has become very complacent in a Post Cold War world that is slowly returning to a Multi Polar World. The USA refuses to get its act together for various reasons and those include "muh diversity", "muh equity", "muh social justice", "muh profits", "muh environment", and so on and so forthAll signs of a declining Empire.Say what you want about China but they dont give a fuck at all, I hope they get good enough to maybe wake this damn country up but I think it's too late.>>64407304>>64406241Also explain it well
>>64405328This as well
>>64403656>Why did we lose the military grade small arms race to FN, HK, Sig, Glock, Beretta, Benelli? The only brand there that matters is Glock and Beretta for their shotguns
>>64403656What blew up this time?
>>64403905You have no idea what you're talking about lmao.
>>64403656>Colt: essentially dead, owned by CZ, a Czech companyThey had it made with military contracts for decades. The company was an industrial powerhouse to the point that it became a small part of the empire it built and a corporate posting there was looked down upon. At the same time complacency set in regarding the product and those military contracts that had powered it all. When those military contracts finally weren't renewed the empire that Colt made sold it off like it was nothing. And it wasn't anymore.
>>64405159Tbf it's not "/k/ - guns"
>>64409317Most non Americans can't even own blades.
Similar reasons to why American car companies suck and lost major market share to Japan, Korea, and Europe. Misplaced priorities, short term stock gains being treated as way more important than long term investments, innovations, R&D, reliability tests etc
>>64403656We didn't innovate, we refused it. Everyone just wants a Glock and AR.
>>64403656but rooger, moss(((berg))), and smitnwesson are extremely popular and make a ton of money doe
>>64408380That does not change the fact that for well over half a century there has been a concerted effort to paint firearms owners in a poor light. The Coof was a mere blip in the curve.
>>64410544They've consistently failed and if you discount non-whites or exile them on pain of death like they deserve then the trend is the opposite. Even if its because the only demographic in any industrial nation which breeds at above replacement levels are right wing whites in America.
>>64409651You can just say "jewish stockholders" anon, its 4chan we all know.
>>64408398We're a declining Republic about to turn into an Empire, Anon. In US Rules the World 2.0, we kill everyone south of Brown in the United States and declare war on the rest of the world to bail out our ailing system. And win.
>>64403681pure copeiumthese companies were ran into the ground by old out of touch boomers. everyone of their best days was pre ww2
>>64405328>>64408404People bitch about Reaganomics but Jack Welch's influence on corporations did more damage than anything else in US history. Making company growth the "product" to sell to the shareholders who are the real "customer" is one of the points I will outright agree with socialists on. Ford v Dodge either needs to be repealed, or there needs to be an equal and opposite law that states that shareholders must make decisions that are in the best interest of the company as an entity as well. The way venture firms and private equity firms can outright buy a company and tell them to their face that they are going to systematically burden them with debt that isnt theirs, take all of the profit that they can, deliberately cause the company to go bankrupt, and that there is nothing they can do about it is outright insane.
>>64403905excellent bait anon. I can see dumbass europeans actually saying this while all their countries service rifles are using stoner derived designs.
>>64409651>Similar reasons to why American car companies suck and lost major market share to Japan, Korea, and Europe.their entire infrastructure is aimed at an entirely different environment that favors larger, more rugged designs that are unwieldy in confined urban environments?
>>64403656It's what happens when you overprice everything, OP. I got a taurus that works fine compared to S&W, a sar that works fine almost 4/5 yrs later; for springfield, their ar's are overpriced, whereas I can find something else that works fine for half the price. PSA makes good ar's for half the price, although I got mine 5 yrs ago when it was about a grand. Mossbergs are great cheap & reliable shotguns, compared to some others.
>>64414168Yeah, the whole "quarterly earnings reports are god" mindset is pretty retarded. It's no wonder publicly traded corporations are usually in such shambles. Meanwhile, privately owned companies like Aldi are cleaning house, providing a good customer experience and good longevity.
>>64403681as if europe has better regulations
