Alright boys. retarded question here.bought a rifle whos previous owner removed the factory gas block and added an aftermarket. long story short, the new gas block's roll-pin hole does not align with the roll-pin hole of the gas tube. the hole is like 1/64" of an inch away from allowing a roll pin to actually go through both sides. Can I ever so carefully and slowly needle file the roll-pin hole of the gas tube into an oval to make a roll pin fit?>buy a new gas blockno I like my shitty aftermarket pic rail gas block and I want to use it.>buy a new rail systemthe build I dont think will allow for a quad rail install.
I doubt there would be an issue doing what you describe. I would just sand the roll pin down a bit if it's only 1/64 away. Always bubba the cheapest part first.
>>64407298the problem is that the opening is like, half the size of a roll pin. ill get a picture but, might not do justice.to shave the roll pin, it would be like half the diameter, essentially well, cutting it in half. i crushed 4 other pins down as small as they would roll, trying to get one in, but no banannna. they keep snagging and catching on the halfmoon opening, on the inside.bought a second gas tube to see if there is a difference. there isnt. they both exhibit the same issue leading me to believe the gas block has a stupid placement for the hole>received the rifle with a roll pin crushed into the gas block, at a jackknifed awkward angle.I think they gave up on this project because of this issue. I want to see it work.
>>64407277Are you 100% sure the gas block is actually in the right spot? Or that there's no debrie in the hole. Cause it sounds wierd that the gas tube won't fit in the gas block.
take the gas tube out and take a picture of it
>>64407379the tube fits well.tube fits in the gas blocki can also see the gas hole of the barrel, is aligning with the hole of the block, by using a piece of spaghetti. what isnt lining up, is the hole where you punch a roll pin through the gas block, through the tip of the gas tube, to secure it in place. its like the pin hole of the gas block was drilled 1/64th inch too high than milspec holes of the gas tube.
>>64407387hole, and gas tube, with said hole that needs to align.
>>64407423inserted. notice how the gas block hole is like, 1/64th taller than where a perfect alignment would be with the gas tube
>>64407423>>64407426your gas tube is upside down in the first shotI think you should just buy a low profile gas block
>>64407426the original tube. you can see where the pins are biting
>>64407428well im not installing it like that.also read OP
if the gas tube isn't perfectly aligned with the block what would make you assume that anything you do to fiddle with will keep the hole for the gas perfectly aligned with the hole in the barrel?
>>64407539all of the holes align except for the roll pin holes. >file gas tube>pinsimple as, right?
>>64407597i don't think so, i would assume they don't line up for a reason. not all gas holes in the barrel and tubes are the same size in diameter or location.
>>64407606the barrel hole lines up with the gas block hole no problem. (yes, even when they pin hole is still misaligned)>how do you know?sphagetti stick trick says its still aligned.
>>64407609sounds like youre drilling out the gas tube to make the roll pin fit and if it doesn't work starting over
Get a blank gas tube, insert into block, drill hole for roll pin, profit?
>>64408062they make blanks?
just get a new gas block. I've only seen this problem a handful of times and it was always on pos ali express tier parts.>>64407367>the problem is that the opening is like, half the size of a roll pin.the gas tube roll pin should be 5/64"
>>64407429Go for it dude, expect slightly more gas leakage. replacements are cheap, I wouldn't be too stressed about it.
