My self defense round.

Smart.
Flat nose is best handgun profile. Why rely on hollowpoint expansion?
"They" won't like hearing it though

I've genuinely been considering jungle loading my carry piece with FMJ and JHP due to all the lardasses around here

It has the best penetration. Its gonna go through more stuff and be effective. Also the heavier grain ammo im more accurate with it. Feels good to shoot.

Have fun going to jail for the rest of your life when the massive over penetration of your round kills the pregnant black "woman" that was standing behind her "man" that you had to shoot because he chimped out over brushing shoulders with you.
>>
>>64408742
Can anyone cite even ONE case of overpenetration so much as hitting someone? Not even killing them, I'll take an instance of wounding or even grazing. It sounds like something fags get their panties in a twist over like worrying the nigger who broke into their house to steal a TV is wearing ceramics and has a fireteam providing support

Not self defense but there was recently a story of a drunk air force guy playing with his friends ak ND’d someone through a wall and killed him

Cali had some cops go into a mall/store with ars and killed a girl in the changing room next to the suspect. I remember he had an old a1 with a cog on it. It was a few years ago iirc.
>>
>>64409137
This came to mind as well but it wasn't an overpenetration it was a miss. Same with the Miami cops who killed innocent people on the highway.
>>
>>64408910
It does happen on rare occasion. We're talking about a rare occasion on top of the rare occasion that you have a self-defense shooting at all. But good choice opie. I also run flat nose Hollow plant because I personally think that expansion and energy transfer is overhyped thanks to a Ronald Reagan Era government decision, and penetration and permanent wound cavity are king. Both of which flat nose is better than round nose.

If your hollowpoint fails to expand, you'll get the penetration of a round that isn't expanding. If someone prefers trading off penetration for wound width, then inconsistently making that tradeoff suits their interest more than consistently not expanding.

Misses with concealed bystanders around makes a situation where zero penetration would be ideal for that particular shot, since the whole thing was a mistake. But you can't eat your cake and have it too with a kinetic projectile that will penetrate bad guy sternums but not bystander-concealing cardboard. So what should be called overpenetration is the bullet's potential to do damage after penetrating the intended target, which is a complicated enough discussion without the impossible hope of misses being harmless.

Here's a conundrum: If your bullet enters and exits the target's arm, how much more penetration than that do you want? It you fired a shot towards their heart and their arm was in the way, a moderate amount of penetration could be inadequate and get you killed by failing to stop the threat. But penetrating the same amount of arm and then the same amount of something else could open a bystander's artery in a different shot, so what we just called inadequate penetration is also overpenetration in a less likely scenario.

I'm more of a 124 Speer gold dot man myself, but I'm not gonna turn my nose at what flat noses can do. I know why wadcutters were the manstopper of choice back in the day

The Empire State shooter was killed by cops who fired like 18 shots total and hit 8 or 9 bystanders from ricochets, over penetration, and 12 pound NY triggers.

i wanna try 10 mm one of these days. kind of 9mm is my main bullet. i was thinking maybe a 10 mm carbine or some kind of heavier hammer fired pistol. was talking to a anon in the handgun thread recently. he said he has a hi point 10mm. its blow back, the slide is heavy to pullback and the gun itself is heavy and he said as a result the recoil feels kinda low.

The most common, which should be good unless you're dealing w/ a tweaker; now, a good home defense weapon is 12 gauge shotgun. Maverick 88's are nice.

Hell fuckin yeah dude. Academy has them for 260

I got another 1 today for over $320 (including taxes); it includes a longer barrel w/ a choke attached, and a regular 1. Going hunting at some point, though I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it this weekend.
>>
>>64411229
oh yeah ive heard of that one. my friend wants to get that one. its 8 and 1 also cause its got a longer tube on the bottom. hell fuckin yeah man nice purchases. have you shot em yet? or was the hunting trip gonna be the first time??
>>
>>64411244
I've fired both, and only had problems w/ the 2nd one w/ ejection issues- otherwise, it's fine. I oiled it up and it's ready to go!
>>
>>64411252
ahh okay thats good. maybe the second one needs a little break in period. i wanna get some shotguns but i know when the time comes to pony up money for a new gun. itll be a pistol again lmao. my family has shotguns. dad i think has a remington. shot it a ton. i know his is a smooth bore 12 gauge 5 in the tube one in the main shot tube.
>>
i carry golddots because out of all the sheriff shooting buddies I have that is what they carry

That image on the box is interesting. Will look this up.

I want my bullets to have enough momentum to reach vital tissues in an unobstructed torso shot. Ideally I would like to create multiple wound channels into my target at the same time; say shotgun pellets or segmenting projectiles.
I refuse to push things further than that because of the difficulty in controlling recoil with a handgun.
I'm not particularly worried about overpenetration because it's unlikely I'll hit someone. Most space does not have people in it. Therefor the probability of me hitting someone is low unless I'm aiming at them.
And that shot did not fail. It killed Platt. He died slowly of blood loss. Only hits to the central nervous system produce immediate incapacitation. Platt's final wound hit the spine but at that point he was probably already unconscious from blood loss.

Self defense shooting : man shoots other man who brandished/threatened, bullet kills man who brandished/threatened AND a bystander. Right in the head. One bullet, two kills, only one of them intentional.
>>
>>64407364
it just works
>>
>>64414492
Sounds like a case of rotten luck on his part, though honestly would it have been a different outcome if it was a JHP or really anything short of a safety slug. But, I'm enough of a man to admit I'm wrong, guess I'll just stick with straight JHPs instead of jungle loading
>>
>>64411212
How do these and the PUNCH compare to say Gold Dots or Rangers?

I've never seen it happen myself, but people talk about the plastic tips in these shitting out after awhile.
