Thoughts about Butterfly Swords? Lindybeige did some sparring with It against longswords and did really well with them:

Seems like they're cool to dance with. Most asian weapons are for purely aesthetic purposes

Modetn butterfly swords are kung fu movie tier crap knives from Hong Kong where carrying long blades were banned by british police. The real ones from the 19th century were long single edged swords.

Also Wing Chun bs uses it incorrectly. Historically one was a parrying blade while the other was the offensive one.

Those are some fancy dance moves, Chinaman, but that's no way to fight.

Short wide slash and stab blades were the meta for tight quarters or indoors combat all over the world, in every century.
Outside of a building, under deck of a ship, alleyway, or tight press of a crowd, longer blades are better.

Are you suggesting that a ten inch butcher knife is somehow not an effective means of cutting someone?

In Wing Chun they're using it in a way so for anyone who has practiced unarmed combat can use those blades immediately. The reverse grip parries and slashes literally are based off elbow blocks and strikes.
If you were to give these blades to someone who did boxing or MMA they'd be use them quite effectively.

Not him, but usually that 10 inch butcher knife is at a pretty significant disadvantage against the guy with the 48 inch longsword.

Fuck that british cunt. He is an elderly man with the grip strength of a teenage girl. He has no place discussing hand to hand combat in any way. Gets shit wrong all the time too.

Short slashing optimized blades are the eternal melee meta for tight quarters for a reason.

>Did well
>Whole video of longer weapons with more leverage just warding guy trying to get an afterblow with the butterfly swords while stabbed through the sternum
Usually this is where easter practitioners say it doesn't count because the club guy isn't a 97th rank grand poobah and such cultural disrespect means none of them should ever, ever disgrace themselves by deigning to fight these pitiful hobbyists.

Performed as expected, daggers are at a massive disadvantage even when not bullied with feints by any longer weapon. Two daggers performing worse due to reach and not blading your body like a dagger or messer play is the obvious outcome from maximizes all those disadvantages.

90+ percent of eastern fighting style, of almost all types, are style first fighting last.
Nothing in OPs video was anything more than a performative wank, defeated by a proper sword strike within the first 2-3 seconds.

Kenjutsu, kickboxing/muay thai, and jiu jitsu are about the only practicable, applicable methods of fighting that have realism. And most of jiu jitsu can be defeated by being strong enough to stand up when your opponent commits to a grapple.

>>64414171
the problem I have with sportslike HEMA "scoring" is there is no way to measure or deduce quality of strike, damage of strike, or anything connected to a realism of blade fighting.
Basically OP is a nonsense retard and this thread embarasses me.

It'll fuck up an unarmed victim but it's far from ideal against anyone armed with a conventional melee weapon.
A fucking baseball bat would be a serious threat to someone with knives that short.

This, without the blades, that would just be their blocking form.
My own kung fu did the same thing with short sticks (batons etc), it was all based off existing strikes/blocks and footwork.

That's also why that dude has his feet out wider than his hands and weapons reach, it's asking for his legs to be slashed but that's how Wing Chun fights.

>conventional melee weapon
The conventional melee weapon for this use case is the one to two foot cleaver blade.
