I want a 1911. But I kinda dont believe in colt prices. Cause at the end of the day. I guess yeah it cost 15 dollars. Which is like 500 dollars and its a mass produced war pistol. Designed to be shot and beat to shit. Not some 2000 dollar shined up trophy.

The Colt Lightning/Thunderer might be the sexiest gun ever made.

I am violently angry there are no reproductions (or modern swing out revolvers with the same design layout)

They revolutionized small arms with the revolver in 1836. The revolvers they made were always some of the best the whole time revolvers were relevant. Even today, python and anaconda enjoyers aren't out looking for "a better revolver" but maybe ya get something else to beat up on. They're good and they look great. Semiautos eventually fully supplanted them, in part thanks to their own products such as the 1911 family of pistols.
1911 - toowurrlwars sonny nuff said sent via tapatalk
To me at least, Colt 1911's are the standard for 1911's some are better built, cheaper, better handling, cool materials or whatever but Colt 1911s are the standard much like Colt AR-15's are (or were) standard ar15s. For the same reasons.
They've dabbled in other cool stuff, the Monitor comes to mind. I like the Mustang. The Fuddbuster guy says the Colt AllAmerican got a bad rap by gun magazine cartels and its actually good, but he's constantly a performatively contrarian libertarian so IDK.
So we got a company that only puts out 1911s revolvers and ar15s.
I hope CZ moves them to a more friendly state, minor problems arise in the move which get compounded by CZ's projects in Europe which leads to them selling to an American company (owned by White men) allowing Colt to thrive again.

I love my 1903, easily my favorite pistol to shoot. It had ivory grips when I bought it but I changed them out because I was always worried about staining or breaking them. I looked up the serial number to see when it was manufactured and learned it turns 100 this year.
>>
>>64414918
because it costs more than a real one to make a fake one, and collectors don't want a fake one anyway
>>

a direct clone wouldn't be able to pass drop safety tests necessary to be approved for sale in the us. The US armament clone they did a run of a while back made changes to the sear and hook until it passed drop tests, and apparently the redesigned parts will fit on an original. I'd imagine the trigger isn't as good though.

best part imo
you can see a chip of wood on the grip fell off at some point and it's worn out. shoots great still and the action is smooth as butter on a hot skillet.

a warning to anyone that gets an early woodsman, one only shoot low velocity loads, and two if you use the follower on the magazine you will slice your thumb open deeply and violently. and if you take it apart to clean it tah dah it's made with nothing but razor sharp edges.

Woah, that's totally bad ass, man. The fact that it's an heirloom firearm makes it even better. I love Colt for their history and craftsmanship. It's really unmatched in American firearms. For me, a pre/early Woodsman has always been on the list, but I have never been able to convince myself to go for it.
As an interesting side note, in Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlow story "Red Wind" a professional killer uses "a .22 target automatic with a large front sight." Since it was published in 1938, I always imagined it as a Colt Woodsman.

so if you drop it on the muzzle from enough height, the firing pin keeps moving forward inside the gun, overcoming spring pressure. If there's a round in the chamber, the primer of that round is what stops the firing pin.

Is under $2000 that expensive for the milspec rifles currently being bought by US government and Ukraine?

Are they still mil-spec? Chris Bartocci, who I trust to be an autist on these things, says Colt is selling guns with more subcontracted, commercial spec parts and that they've stopped a lot of the rigorous QA/QC that they did during byte years of the M4 and M16 contracts.

>Can you give us a QRD on what you have there?

1 pre-woodsman 1922 made and only shoots standard velocity 22lr, 2 first series target models from the 30s, one of which is standard and the other is high velocity (they changed the internals in the 30s for high velocity ammo, check the backstrap pattern on the gun before buying to see which one it is) , a second series sport model from the late 50s (4 inch and Bakelite grips) , a huntsman from the 70s (budget model without adjustable sights/slide hold open) and the 3rd series match target model from the 70s , which is the best shooter by a good margin.

> What's the best generation for quality and features?

The general consensus is that the second generation is the most desired (prices reflect this) for the push button mag release instead of the heel release, finish quality, and changeable backstrap, but I’m partial to the first series for the grip angle and old world charm. You really can’t go wrong with any of them though. I think the finish on the third series guns is very nice looking. My third series match target model is also the best shooter of the group.

>What's the easiest one to get a deal on?

The budget models such as the huntsman, targetsman, challenger etc all go for under $400 regularly on bids and stuff that I see. But those aren’t really as good quality imo. You can find a good first series for in the $700-900 range, or a third series for $600-800 range. Mags are also going to be $90-$150 no matter which one you can find.

anyways everyone on /k/ should get a woodsman, it’s an American classic made by John Moses Browning himself and they ‘re all hand fitted and high quality guns.

>>64411337
Can’t hate an old American gun company, except it’s not anymore since it sold to CZ so I can. It’s disappointing that they haven’t made a new gun in 50 years and their prices are bullshit.
>this 114 year old pistol design is $2000
>how about a 153 year old revolver design for $2,299?
>too much huh? Okay, the 50 year old double action revolver in the same caliber is only $1,699
Nonsense. Beretta makes better pocket pistols for much cheaper, everybody makes a comparable quality 1911 for much cheaper, modernized 1911 versions are available from other companies now, even more people than everyone makes comparable quality ARs for much to much much cheaper. The only reason to buy a colt over the same gun from a different company is that you want a pony on the side of it and that’s not worth a +100% to +400% price jump.
>>
>>64411368
What pistols have they ever made since the single action army or snake revolvers? The 1911, pocket hammerless, etc. were browning designs that he sold to them. The AR was made by Armalite. And I wouldn’t even describe their revolvers are interesting, it’s not like they are top break or anything.
