was it a good idea having so few machine guns at the company level or were the extra heavy mortars enough to compensate?

for comparison, the US armored infantry had 6 machine guns per company, 4 additional machine guns at the battalion, and assorted machine guns spread out as pintle mounts
but only 3 81mm mortars instead of 6 82mm with the soviets
