Who are they? Who are past examples? Why are they so shadowy compared to other military roles, even decades afterwards? Even Delta Force seems to have more of a public face than these guys?

Why aren't there famous names to tie to every failed weapons programs from the 1970s-2010s from every countries military, seeing that these guys are so influential?

The Marine colonel that signed off on the M1161 Growler ITV-LSV should be a household name.

my bro was Army ROTC and he said one of the guys was purely on some Procurement track and always stealing shit. He also failed their soft ROTC 'basic' that was supposed to be an acid test of "make or break" and he thought "well, I guess we wont have to deal with that shit next year" but come next year he was back like nothing every happened.

And "no" he didn't do some make up Basic.

They don't make the decisions. They only execute their orders. The top brass gave them the orders. But who approved the budget? POLITICIANS.

P O L I T I C I A N S

Contrary to capeflick and war movies, the US military can't do shit without civilian political approval. Often, these politicians will be uninformed, stupid, greedy and corrupt. So, if you're angry about it, direct your anger to your Congressman, not the military. Sure, they are complicit but follow the money.

shoulda gone Hi-Low mix.

put a diesel in a Rav4 Prime PHEV and make a battle-buggy out of a Ram 2500 4x4 diesel.

The Rav4 has 41 miles EV mode range (on street) for true scouting (and can run big electric without ICE running) and the Ram can tow lots of shit and is real truck with Cummings/Allison (but should be still lift able by choppers and aircraft)

The growler is fucking based. While it wasn't perfect it set the general idea up for further vehicle development.
