Is there any purpose to using an AK's rear sight like this?
From this video:

He's not the only guy doing it BTW.

no

people don't know it but this is how we ran them sights back in the days on 47s. the rifle would be zeroed for MPBR. I served in the soviet afghani wars.
>>
It turns up the power on the gun.

No joke. That’s the answer. They don’t know what sights are.

I'm familiar with that old greentext but this one's a bit weirder because it doesn't correspond to higher numbers, it actually looks like his sight is at the lowest setting.

Barrel mounted grenades are more popular in the 60's and 70's, especially in African conflict. They kept building them that way because they're retarded. You're welcome.
>>
>>64420284
Retard here. How do you make sure the rifle bullet does not go through and activate the rifle grenade explosive?
>>
>>64420592
theres the kind that requires blanks and theres the kind thats ok to shoot with a bullet trap built into it
>>
He either
>Thinks the higher the sight the more power
>Thinks it works like the DSHK that he saw on a truck once
You also see guys just popping around a corner lazily sending off rounds. I doubt anyone actually is directly aiming at anyone.

They have a bullet trap that catches the bullet. It's a really weird concept, but seeing them in action is really interesting.
>>
>>64420284
Doesn’t the front trunnion need to be reenforced for those grenades? Or is that some fudd bs
>>
>>64420592
back in WW2, you actually just couldnt
you had to switch to blanks before loading the rifle grenade or else

on a tangential note: since the grenade is so much larger than a bullet, it produces noticeably more kick
which is why you sometimes had to plant the butt of the rifle on the ground to brace it before firing

Anything over ~500m is just semi-accurate suppression, you might get lucky beyond that but it is luck.

>>64420170
Wut? The higher the rear site the longer the range.
>>
>>64420938
He is referencing picrel, I don't know if the belief that the higher the number the more power you get is an actual thing, but you can clearly see that they do it.
>>64420747
As you can see they were still doing it 10 years ago, and considering Africa they're probably still doing it.
>>
>>64420938
If the sight was in the correct position, the elevation adjustment is at the lowest setting.
>>
>>64420953
I know what he's refering too, in OPs pic is it set to max "power".
>>
>>64420695
No.

Fun fact, the A2 birdcage on M16s and M4s is sized to complay with NATO standard 22mm rifle grenades.
>>
>>64420110
Maybe they like the clearer sight picture but don't realize you have to align the rear sight with the front.
>>
>>64420747
>people still believe this historically supported story
Yes. My grandfather saw similar in Vietnam amongst dead VC.
>>
>>64420126
>>
>>64420705
Wrong. The bullet pushes the grenade forward, negating any recoil
>>
>>64421436
Only with the shoulder thing that goes up
>>
>>64420110
I love the lazily holding the gun high above your head and shooting sideways tactic , I saw it in a video of conflict in Mali as well
>>
>>64421013
actually, in OP's pic, it's on the lowest setting and pushed out of it's proper position.
it's an AK, not a flintlock rifle.
