>>64422002I still can't get over retarded respawning of checkpoints in FC2. That game could've been magical if only slightly less retarded people made it.
mostly Foxhole
>>64422009I liked it. Kept you on your toes rather then having a permeate fast travel. I guess my opinion is the wrong one due to all subsequent games being fast travel city.
>>64422062I never played any past 2, which one would you recommend?
>>64422009>respawningI think it's just how the engine works. Dunno if it's because of the consoles back in the day having cripplingly low amounts of working memory, or just the devs finding it easier that way, but the map's split into smaller areas that just stop existing when you get far enough from them, and are reset to their initial state when you return. If they didn't respawn, the environment would also be a lot less dangerous.Could be neat if there was something like Stalker's A-Life, where the NPCs have to move to the checkpoints to retake them. Would likely need a whole new system in the engine to support it if large chunks of the map aren't even loaded most of the time, though.
Been playing the demo for this which is basically The Expanse, the game. Pretty rough but has potential.
monster black market but I prefer it if you thought I was cool and playing picrel instead
I'm considering buying Battlefield 6 (when it goes on sale I hate the $70 standard), you chuds let me know if its good
>>64422136the foundation is great but as of now it lacks polish and it's very grindy. After a few bug fixes it will be truly great.
Beyond Citadel. If you look past the coomer artstyle, It's a good, fast paced shooter.

>>64421945I've been playing Gray Zone Warfare. It has shaped up nicely and I look forward to the next update in November. If anyone starts, remember not to bring that much fancy gear on a mission in case you cannot reach your corpse to get it all back.

Insurgency 2014. I love source.Best voicelines in any shooter I've ever played. Did you know if you stab someone to death in it and hit "enemy killed" they will say a special voiceline? Link not related, but at 22 minutes the guy says "no" in a bunch of different ways https://youtu.be/qyuoOPHiY2g
>>64421945I've been playing ready for knot recently. it's kind of glitchy but it's still fun. they recently added hard mode which really added some challenge to the game. before you could just run and gun on a lot of maps. my main complaint is that the AI can will often kill you with the most ridiculous pixel peeks on maps like greased palms. you'll get sniped from across a warehouse by some dude with a glock shooting at you through a 1/4" gap between two boxes. it gets really fucking annoying sometimes. I wish someone would make a frag grenade mod.

>>64422136what was your favourite battlefield prior to it? That'll kinda determine if you enjoy it or not imo
>>64424170I think it’s overrated and terrible unless you have a singular enemy in front of you, even the multiple versions in 3 are all just kinda bad. I’d take the fusion cannon or chronoscepter from 1 anyday of the week. Hell, I’d even take 1’s auto shotgun over it.
>>64422715Just for you, anon, I'll play some Insurgency tomorrow. It really blew me away how much worse Sandstorm was, is, and always will be. I was so hyped for it too because of how much I loved the first one. Oh well.
>>64422136>>64422204>>64424539Battlefield 6 is excellent; but it's not any of the other games you already played. If you just want to play the same thing you already played, play the same thing you already played.Otherwise, BF6 is the best running, cleanest looking and best balanced BF of all time. It lacks maps, lacks gun variety, the battle royal mode hasn't been implemented yet, we're still waiting on the battle pass and there are a few bug fixes you should expect in the coming weeks, but it absolutely mogs every other BF game experientially. All it needs is time in the oven to flesh out the experience; to grow a map roster to rival BF4 after DLC
>>64421970Your heart dies.
>>64421945been replaying mgsveasily my second favorite game in the wandering around africa clearing checkpoints and collecting diamonds genre
>>64422136Its definitely got good bones but I would wait for a sale like you said. The gunplay is the biggest issue right now with the weapon bloom completely killing your accuracy leading to a lot of frustrating moments where you are on targets but your shots just go around people. The destruction is another issue with a lot of stuff being indestructible to "preserve" map flow, but it just leads to the destruction feeling very one-note and not something you can really rely on or actually use to its fullest potential. Its really all or nothing when it comes to breaking shit because an RPG can take down just the front of a building or a sledgehammer can do the same in 2 hits. Its kind of ridiculous. The game is also missing a "gimmick" like previous battlefields. BF4 had levolution, BF1 had the behemoths and BF5 had the buildable defenses. The best map in BF6, Mirak Valley has the closest thing to levolution with a crane in the middle being destructible but that's it. There's not really anything that interesting that changes up the flow of the game.Other than that the game has some good stuff going for it, like the vehicles are strong but can still be dealt with easily, and the weapon selection is pretty nice except for maybe the sidearms. Doesn't really matter that much but the campaign is unbelievably dogshit. Take the shittiest wannabe Tom Clancy military pulp novel you can think of and dial up the dogshit to 11.
>>64422106It's a deliberate choice, you don't need to keep the entire outpost in memory to have a flag that says to spawn guys there or not. The director has talked about wanting to make the whole environment feel hostile in interviews before iirc.
>>64422136I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'd wait for a sale if you didn't bother getting the beta or 2042 skins, but it's a good time.
>>64421945Stalker 2. So glad they added night vision in.
RAGAMUFFIN!
Im having fun with Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts.Like an amalgamation of Hitman, Sniper Elite and Crysis (made on the same engine).
>>64424690the suppression system is dogshit in bf6, the fact that you need to hit a target for it to take effect defeats the entire point of it. There hasn't been a good system for it since 3. "time out of the oven" fuck off anon, maybe they should have just not released it for a year and sold it as a full experience like every battlefield since 3 & before?

>>64421945Battlefield 1942. These days I almost exclusively play old games on my retro PCs and consoles.I could build a new PC but it'd come at the expense of my other hobbies, it would lose value, and there's nothing new which interests me. Maybe when Elder Scrolls 6 comes out I'll upgrade.
>>64421945Having a blast playing BF6
>>64424757>It's a deliberate choice, you don't need to keep the entire outpost in memory to have a flag that says to spawn guys there or not. The map might feel a bit empty if you cleared too much of it and the next time you passed a few outposts, they were completely empty, with no spawned guards but none of the carnage you left behind clearing them either.I suppose at some point during development they had a choice:>add system for tracking outpost/road checkpoint state, mark them cleared if none of the guards are alive, keep list of cleared outposts in memory and re-spawn after it's been long enough (with the caveat above)>or just don't track or save anything besides player state and story progress, spawn new guards on every chunk loadThe later games kind of stepped past this by immediately throwing a very unimmersive "outpost cleared" screen in your face and spawning friendly guards so it didn't seem so empty, but I don't think that would have fit into FC2's style that well.

>>64425685>>64425690It is modeled after an Official Police, but that frame size was later offered as a Trooper model in .357 with adjustable sights.I recently got into old Colt revolvers and the Official Police is really good. They have a butter smooth action with crazy tight lockup (like all Colts) and can handle hot .38 loadings despite never officially being +P rated. They were designed for .38/44 loads.Because they aren't snake guns nobody cares about them so they sell for fairly modest prices. Great shooters too.>>64425734I'm playing on a medium difficulty setting so I'm not scrounging for ammunition as badly as I could be, but it is scarce enough that I have to manage what weapons I'm using depending on the mix of threats I'm encouraging. I like the level design and world building so I spent a lot of time secret-hunting throughout the campaign, which helps tremendously as well. I ended up with tons of gun parts for weapon upgrades doing this, and boosting damage really helps ammunition last longer.I don't know how far into the campaign you are, but you can cheese most of the initial onslaught of "Old Town" by stacking barrels and getting on the roof of the saloon. Also the "Fairgrounds" is a complete slog. Feels way too long.

>>64428990It’s a corporation, not some mom and pop outfit. I’m sure EA/DICE has no idea what made their previous games popular. Remaste/remakes only work when there’s enough demand for it.Those games had their time, change is inevitable.
>>64428999I'd guess the older consoles were still relevant enough to get games, but the gap between them and PC/PS3/X360 was enormous. Not just a performance difference, but the previous gen consoles couldn't even use the same rendering techniques because they had no modern-ish shaders or anything. Dunno how many game engines supported both of those, either. So either you had to find a game engine that supported both old and new platforms, and develop a game that can work on both (likely with some compromises from sharing assets and code between very different platforms), or just develop two different games.I don't think crazy perf gaps like that even exist any more. A random mobile device can, in theory, handle nearly the same assets/shaders/etc. as a high-end gaming PC. Probably not very fast, but anyways. And gaming power per $ has barely gone anywhere in at least half a decade. If anything, performance is going down from all that raytracing/realtime global illumination crap they're shoving even into games with entirely static environments.
>>64422065I loved playing Far Cry 2, and Far Cry 3 was pretty damn good as well. Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon was pretty alright too. I didn't pay much attention after that though.>>64422009I will agree that the respawning checkpoints in FC2 gets very repetitive once you go through it several times. If the respawns felt more randomized and organic to keep things fresh that would have been a lot better.

>>64423061Great mod recommendation, thanks. I'll definitely give that a try when I make a new Hardcore playthrough. Should make it less tedious overall and makes clearing the checkpoints much more worthwhile rather than just constantly sneaking around and avoiding them on foot.
>>64423184A classic for sure.
>>64421970>>64424726>Why does growing up suck so much bros?>Your heart diesIf I'm being frank here, it's probably because you haven't learned to grow up properly yet in the first place if I'm being honest with you felllas. That, and you're probably suffering from depression as well. I've been through that myself. You know what's helped me to grow up and feel more masculine and energetic in my adulthood? Sunbathing. Turns out sunlight exposure is incredibly important for testosterone and neurochemical function. Sunlight will certainly make you feel better if you're not getting enough of it in day-to-day life. So go get some if you're feeling down on your luck. Just be careful not to burn your skin. Good luck dudes>>64421945Been playing Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. It's a cool game, a little janky in it's gameplay, but cool nonetheless. Makes me feel like I'm back in WW2 fighting the Japs again in the jungles.
>>64427249I recommend Blitzkrieg mod, its on steam too. Fantastic for skirmishes.
So which of these FC2 mods is the go-to? https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Far_Cry_2#Mods
>>64429069Pacific Assault is very underrated and also rarely brought up when MOH is discussed on /v/ and /vr/. So many instead have nostalgia for the downright atrocious Rising Sun on the consoles. One thing I liked about PA a lot is that ammo is not plentiful and you are constantly on the last mag or two. It's also fairly challenging at points. The only real flaw is the dogshit airplane mission. Sadly by the time it came out Call of Duty was the superior ww2 shooter.
>>64427215They're ruining it. It's on its last legs. The gunplay will be gone in a year or two. DMRs are now dogshit to use, every one of the guns they'd added in probably 4 years feels like a super soaker, and they desperately want to kill off ARs like they tried to do with DMRs.The game is now being solely made for nogunz whales from East Asia with no taste in gameplay or guns.
>>64429224>The only real flaw is the dogshit airplane missionLuckily for me I played lots of first person flight simulators before that mission so I got used to the controls pretty quickly, but the fact that they even had a dedicated flying mission in an FPS game based mostly round infantry combat was pretty jarring to say the least especially when the flying was poorly executed as well. Seemed like an afterthought to me. Really weird choice from the devs there. But the next mission after that made up for it easily. Tarawa Atoll is my favorite, hands down. The Pacific campaign doesn't get as much worthwhile attention compared to its European counterpart in my opinion, but oh well. Beggars can't be choosers, that's for sure. You make do with what you've got.
>>64429353It's been about 10 years since I played it but I have a vague memory that controls were bound to mouse for movement and maybe that's why I remember it as very uncomfortable.Speaking of planes, I recommend pic related and its sequel. If you like Ace Combat, you will like this too. From the era when Ubisoft was still making good shit like Brothers in Arms.
>>64428978Countless hours spent in Terrorist Hunt, crawling around the map for 20 minutes until some AI catches a peak of me and screams “AIM FOR THA HEAD” before they dome me
Helicopter controls in Battlefield 2 were absolutely perfect and i will never understand why people shit on them
>>64429359Hell yeah, thanks for the recommendation, anon. That'll go on my list for sure. And yes, for Pacific Assault on PC, movement is on the mouse by default and it's inverted as well for up and down directions. Really messes you up for the first time after running and gunning on the ground on foot lol. But that's war for ya. Anyways, fighter planes will forever be cool and interesting. God bless American air power.
>>64428978this activated the tacticool dressup gene in me
>>64428883Yeah. I love the graphics which are a huge upgrade from the old TA engine that Escalation uses. However, BAR has fewer units, so while I think it looks a lot cooler it doesn't have the same strategic depth.Escalation is free to play too.

Arma reforger server I frequent recently added a mod version of the backpack mortar and machine guns like in 1.6. This server does auto regen of supplies so I had to find something else to stick to, so I did some mortars. I took a cargo humvee, put 500 shells in the back, the two mortar pieces and set out to certain positions at the max range of the hottest point on the map, montignac. I would push out 40 shells from each position before scooting to another spot. Enemy team was bitching the whole time I was doing it, saying mortars were pushy shit and should be removed. I got like 89 kills before I ran out of shells, went back, got more and kept doing it. We ended up winning cause this enemy team spent too much time and too many assets on Monti trying to fortify it amid constant heli and mortar strikes. Next day the mortar backpacks were gone but the head admins put the adult mortars in which add the realistic ranges and said we could do it from our mob, and that it WONT be removed. I can still hit Monti and the increased dispersion on the rounds at that range make it even more effective for consistent saturation bombardment. I fucking love mortars.
>>64431245Based as fuck. 1.6 is shaping up to be incredible. New small experimental patch dropped today. l gotta see if they fixed AI supply teams finally.

>>64429359I remember this for the Wii and the motion control actually made it really fun. Outside of that fjord mission. Fuck that mission, I used cheats to skip it. The best was unlocking all the planes and going to Pearl Harbor with a Tempest and seeing how many Zeros you could kill in the ~30 ish minutes of the mission.

>>64421945Ive been hooked on this shitty game that's just called Vietnam War. It's amazing and absolutely unhinged at the same time. For instance, there's a "kill civilians" button you can press to order your squad to do a My Lai, and your character has a dedicated "war crimes" stat.On my first run I chose to be in the Air Force and I got stationed in Thailand. Immediately I got attacked by a dog with rabies inside the base and died, so when I respawned I spent the next half hour clearing the flightline of all animals, which drained my sanity stat so I had to go to a juicy bar to restore my morale. Then I hopped in a B-52 on a bombing mission over the Plain of Jars, got shot down because I couldn't figure out the controls, and had to evade Pathet Laos in the jungle, calling in airstrikes on my own position until a medevac chopper picked me up.
>>64428883Yeah I have, sorry that's what I meant by BA even though that's a completely different thing.>>64429205CoH with the Blitzkrieg mod is a blast. I loved doing comp stomps with buddies. I remember being really sad when they made the US rocket jeep Armor doctrine only.
>>64432353I forget the name of it, but there's a Sino-Japanese War mod for CoH where the ultimate unit in the game is just a regular M4 Sherman the Chinese get for speccing into the X and Y Force tech tree. I always thought that was amusing.
i've been bouncing between day of defeat: source, company of heroes 2, WARNO, steel division 2, and more recently starship troopers: terran command since a new update came out.>>64423056>least favoritebut what's your favorite? for me, it's 101st in both warno and sd2. i wish there was a good US div with amphibious transport for the rare times i want to assault across a river/lake without possibly losing it to AA.

RS2 also is this game always full of cheater? Like, I have run into multiple guys with 250+ping with 90kills on average and having 0.5 sec reaction time amids all the bushes and horrible anti-aliasing. Is this legit?
>>64432249>Gen Alpha or whatever,This gen bullshit is retarded, only greatest generation, boomer and millennials actually make sense as they mark notable event in history. Shit like gen x, silent generation, gen z or whatever is just strange as they don't mark anything new in history.
>>64421945Call to Arms Gates of Hell. My friends and I used to play modded out Company of Heroes until we found this thing. It's everything we were looking for.
>>64432302Looks fun
>>64432910based, I've spent several hundreds of hours on conquest. The game was everything I wanted (easy to get into for a session but realistic enough with a dynamic campaign with progression) Am now eagerly awaiting the bongoloid dlc.
>>64432182Always felt that RA1 was the more underrated and /k/ in tone even if the game was legit just tank spam.
>>64433004RA1 is too primitive but its also not multiplayer based. The storyline is sick as fuck. I would even argue it started a conspiracy to memory hole the game franchise. After all the game practically entirely disappeared but later reemerged due to how fun it is to play the better multiplayer developed RA2 version of the game. The game came out like year 2000. And people a few years ago half my age took the game to twitch and YT to produce regular episodes of matches. I was super impressed and even got my kid a PC just to play it. Now we play it together. I always kick his butt but he's getting more quick and aggressive. RA2 was developed more so for better online multiplayer game play. Units can individually gain super power promotions for super long sustained kill streaks, and the basic battle tank can engage enemy units targeting them targeting them and fire shots at them while actually moving without needing to stop. Making RA2 a huge maneuver and fire tank battle. I wish they would fully update all the older C&C games to do the game. Needing to pause tanks so they may fire or else they will not shoot, and zero reward of individual promotion for a tank gaining sustained kill streaks makes the older C&C games so droning. Not to mention. The RA1 storyline has got to be the ultimate hard to swallow real life Red Pill by the fact when they eliminate Hitler by erasing him from time, all it does is remove him from being opposition against the communist war machine by taking him out of the way. Paving the way for an alternate WW2, ALLIED V. SOVIET UNION. Underrated indeed, and its continuing to somehow gain popularity. You can buy all the C&C games for like 5$ fucking bucks. And on top of that people are still throwing out free MODS of entirely new game add ons for the games. Fucking like C&C.
>>64433033>RA1 is too primitive but its also not multiplayer based. In a weird way it actually is. The whole engineer change was in response to engineer rushes online in Tib Dawn. They reverted the change in Tib Sun when they realized that it fucked the campaign and it was easier to just let players wall off key buildings like con yards to nerf it as a strategy.>basic battle tank can engage enemy units targeting them targeting them and fire shots at them while actually moving without needing to stopQ move was a thing introduced in RA1. Legit the most valid strategy in 90% of missions where you can build is just to get a bunch of mediums or heavies and Q move through the enemy base. Its what legit fucks a lot of balance up as a light tank will 1vs1 a mammoth and win thanks to Q move.>RA1 storyIt is indeed an extremely interesting premise with Stalin being infinitely worse than Hitler. There's gassing and death camps mentioned in the story that most people won't pick up on in their first playthrough. Game does handwave a lot of things like how the British Empire should be the world superpower still in this timeline and Imperial Japan would be wanting to fuck the reds but then again the game is basically an asset flip that was meant to be a prequel to Tib Dawn.>somehow gaining popularityThe remastered collection was well received and the untouched version being free doesn't hurt things either. Tib Dawn last I checked was the more popular one online as it manages to be balanced probably by accident meanwhile RA is Allied or bust, seriously Soviets are so badly underpowered outside of grenadier rushes its not funny.

>>64421945they really have to patch psycho patrol R before I play more of it
>>64433410Jagex did ruin it, but there was no way to retain the magic of 04-07. As games become more optimized they're less fun, and the noob-heavy early days where the game was super accessible were never going to last. The only way would be to make a separate internet for people under the age of 15 and re-release 07Scape to them. And if they want a RuneHQ they have to make it themselves.
>>64421945Sprocket, it captured my autism perfectly, I've spent 500 hours doing and redoing tanks and MBTs
Highly recommended
>>64433004Both C&C1 and RA1 are in a very odd place where they came out at a time where there wasn't enough capability for the graphical aesthetic they actually wanted, and by the time both sequels came out they went too far off into science fiction that they lost what they had originally.I'm frustrated we'll never see a game fully do "early 90's NATO vs a crazy Serbian Techno-Cult" ever again.
>>64433004RA1 is a step down from C&C95 that came before. Some game mechanics are legitimately worse than they were before, and it's really not a good game compared to the first one.
>>64421945Days Gone had surprisingly good shooting & weapon selection.Obligatory RDR2 had realistic funs in regards to reloading mechanics
>>64435242It really was a product of its time and to think that when it released NATO had yet to fully commit till Tib Sun had released.>>64435326At least it doesn't have a complete overreliance of commando missions which makes it campaign far more enjoyable than Tib Dawn.

>>64433300An old-ass second hand gaming laptop. 1070, i7 6700hq, 32 GB ram. It does fine at 1080. I've never had an issue that makes it unplayable or even all that unpleasant. Gets a little laggy sometimes, but the game is really good about turning down settings on the fly, so if your friends start to lag because your potato can't keep up, it'll turn down your graphics a bit and you can all keep playing. I don't even notice a loss in quality. I should also add that my performance overall seems to have degraded in the last few months. That Chinese bitcoin miner I inadvertently installed has slowed things down a bit. I almost never had any problems with the game in the past.
Intravenous 1 and 2 are peak. I remember playing it for the first time, enemies found splotches of blood from a kill I made, and the entire fucking map went into alert and started trying to hunt me down. Real good shit.
