Field watches
G shocks
Casio terrorwave watches
Seiko's and Hamiltons
Luminox and Tissot and Timex pieces

whats a good field watch I can have at work but also for operating? I really want something with lume. like I want lume that can get me killed for backlighting me at night. so far the timex indiglo seems like the best choice.

I have zero interest in a smart watch. I have no idea what I would use it for other than gps maybe. everyone at work uses them to text and reply since we cant have our phones out. other than that ive never really seen the appeal of a smart watch.

pedometer and gps and heart rate monitor are cool features I guess.

My Instinct 2 can tell altitude while hiking and oxygen in blood level. I've also seen people using the companion app to get info about acclimatization to altitude washed on these two things which was cool. I haven't figured out how to enable it on mine though. It also can work in "tactical" mode that lets you read it in nods without lighting up like a Christmas tree.

For you, it doesn't matter because not one person ever sets their watch properly (to LST, i.e. solar time) but instead chooses to set it to the same time as their time zone.

If the sun isn't at its highest position when your watch reads 12:00 and at its lowest position when it reads 24:00 (or 00:00) relative to your position on earth, you are retarded and should not be wearing a watch because the truth is clearly not important to you.

Harvesting shitloads of data about you, most especially location and biological, the better to market goods and services to you.

Whether that delights you or makes you sick to your stomach will depend on you general feelings about consumer privacy, and the ever-present threat of the government getting access to that info.

Picked one up because I was in the market for such a thing. I had wanted a soviet watch, but couldn't find one I really liked when I was in the eastern bloc, and I doubt I'll ever get to go back again.
It comes in a nice metal tin with a generic cheapo chinese band. My hairy wrists find those things uncomfortable so I put it on a NATO strap instead (ironic. also, tan was all I had but I imagine it would look much better with a dark red or brown one).
Function wise, it's nothing special. It's a basic digital watch but in Russian, just as advertised. Biggest criticism I have is that the Bandit Radio song is a bit slow compared to the others.
I say if you're interested, get one on Black Friday. For a novelty, it's cheap enough.

I like it because I'm a bong submariner. It's got the Russian crest on the back plate as well. In good Russian style, it gains a months or so each day, so not particularly accurate, and it's mechanical wind up (non automatic), but I think it's cool.

I have a garmin fenix 6 sapphire and if you do innawoods at all, it's a nice thing to have just in case. Granted, I haven't had much use for it thus far since I also have a dedicated gps, but it's really reincouraging to know that I always have gps and topographic maps on me just in case. The pedometer, sunset/sunrise and other miscallaneous features are quite handy too.

It could also be used to pay with in case you lose your phone and wallet, if you want to enable that functionality, but I haven't because of concerns listed by >>64427498. As far as Garmin knows, I'm Ms. Fucking Nigger with a primary residence in Malmö, Sweden.

If I know I'm really gonna be in an awful environment out in the field or deployed somewhere then I'll wear my boot camp F-91W that's still trucking along after 11 years. Fucker just won't die, it's still on the original battery and everything, the only thing I've had to replace was a busted strap.

>>
>>64430832

Yes, and that won't change as long as no one is willing to make the sacrifice. Surely technology should have solved this issue, right? But it won't because no one cares.
>>
>>64427414
Lol that time is over an hour off my timezone time, no fucking way I'm using that. The number assigned to the time of day at peak sun is a lot less important than everybody using the same time across the board.

Way back in the eighties, when I was just a wee lad, I saw my first episode of the Knight Rider on TV.
And obviously it blew my young mind. A talking car? Cool adventurer dude with a black leather jacket who punches bad guys and gets all the chicks? Oh hell yeah!

And that hero guy had this digital watch that had a radio in it so he could talk to his awesome supercar even when he didn't see it.
That was my very first introduction to the digital watches. I had not seen one before, as all of our clocks had so far been analog ones with a round face. (well, technically I did have one of those nintendo game-and-watch electronic games, but I never paid attention to the watch part, I just played the game - It was "Fire Attack" btw). It was a new and exciting concept, that only clicked in once I saw the Knight Rider.

So of course I HAD to have one! A digital watch, just like that cool dude in the TV!
And I then kept begging my dad to get me one for several weeks until he got sick of me yammering about it and said "Fine! Let's get you a digital watch!"

So we went to a local electronics store, and he bought me... A Casio Terrorist watch. Yup, the very first wrist watch I ever had was a Casio Terrorist watch. And I loved it! It even had a little light so you could tell time in dark! It had an alarm function and a calendar too! It was amazing! Future was here!

That's why Casio terrorist watch has a special place in my heart. Not only it's a solid, waterproof watch, it also takes me back to those youthful times, when every day was a new adventure.

Oh, and then I saw that other show. The one with a smart guy who had a swiss army knife. Guess who had to have one of those as well.
>>
>>64426563
I got a garmin instinct 1 and the heart rate monitor absolutely shat the bed. It claims my heart rate is 20 beats lower than it should be (tested against multiple other devices), but only above 120.
>>
>>64435385
The 2100? 40 mm dial, 11 mm thick, 46 mm lug-to-lug, so very similar to a regular men's dress watch. Might be a little harder to get it out from under a shirt cuff, because the case is resin.

Having a bunch of cheap Casio watches to hand out to people as gifts like Santa Claus is actually a survival pro-tip. You wanna make friends with the local homeless guys in a SHTF situation so they'll kick some other guy's ass if he's messing with you. Also those cheap LED flashlights you can get at the Homo Depot. Get a box of those and then a bundle of Casios and you can make frens, and survive, and thrive.

>it has a longer battery life
how? are there differences other than the display?

Uncommon opinion; I don't like the f91w with a NATO strap, I prefer the factory resin strap
>>
>>64441238
that's a temperature range, they're good to 50m depth

>(beside some of their presage line)
the best seiko I own is the presage champagne cocktail time watch

I really like that one.
I wish luminox werent so fucking huge also. Why are all the watches with bright lume so fucking huge? make a 38mm with good lume.

Oh that's cool, 50m isn't that deep still. I mean it's past what your basic scuba diver will go roughly 120 feet and I don't mean to knock it, just kinda found the irony funny.
It's a cool watch. FWIW my Scuba watch is an orange monster. I'm building a repo Yellow currently off a dead black..... black monster. god damnit it doesn't sound any better.

Gosh she's pretty. Love Seikos have a green Alpinist on a brown leather strap.
>>
>>64441971
oh nice, that sounds pretty neat
I've never gotten into watch modding myself but that feels like something that could be fun to get into

should I stick with the automatic SARB or get a cheaper quartz Grand Seiko?

>>64428211
You matched up retardedness to perfection
>>
>>64441786
Mine broke really easily
>>
Wouldn't gunpowder residue fuck up the watch?

any decent watch is sealed

Looks like a big G-Shock, has better module than an entrance G-Shock, but its not a G-Shock.

Have one. Minimalist and no lame engravings.
But the negative display is very bad to read. Will swap to positive.

Casio with this retard 16mm pin, forcing you to buy an adapter, is fucking stupid. A 18-22mm pin would solve this shit.

In essence, I like G-Shocks - cheap and durable, but today I see a lot of (unnecessary) small issues with the entrance line models:
- Small buttons.
- Adjust button sucks - switch to normal.
- Screen x bezel ratio is bad. Casio AE series are fucking huge and clean to read.
- 16mm pin sucks, ask for adapter.
- Metal buckle with... plastic strap. Come on.
