I am ETN1 (SW) Anon, Reactor Operator and Watch Supervisor, and I work with B I G Navy. I did 2 deployments and got a Combat Action Ribbon. Answering questions while the thread lasts.

In general, the posts about Nukes is half true half false. School is only hard if you're lazy or have room temp IQ. If you have an average IQ but are willing to study, it's not so bad. If you're very smart, you'll literally schleep through nuke school. Understand that most people in the military are borderline retards. The guy serving you rice? 30 ASVAB. The dude screaming 'STAND FAST STAND CLEAR' while escorting a dude who was late to muster 2x in a month down the p-way? 55 IQ. Even the """smart""" aviation rates are LARPing as smart people.

None of this is to say Nukes are smart, including me. It's merely that everyone around you is profoundly retarded.

The thread in OP's post about enlisted nukes reads very clearly of lazy brainlet and if you can't see through it, the program doesn't need you. If you're willing to study hard and do work, being a nuke is still dogwater work, shit hours, and thankless, HOWEVER, it does provide very nice perks on the far side.

Also, the prolapsed asshole and cancer idea are hilarious. You receive more ionizing radiation playing top gun on the flight deck than I do in the plant. My annual exposure over 6 years was <0.00 mrem

All this said, I'm not here to recruit, merely help some /k/ommandos
>>
>>64428016
So what's the real situation regarding surface vs sub for nukes? I have consistently been told that sub (if you can handle it) is leagues better than surface, but I have heard from surface nukes that going sub is a ticket to the looney bin.

its not that theyre retarded its just that theyre lazy as fuck. no one even wants to glance at the fucking text over. i believe the average person isnt retarded, and actually smart enough to learn a vast array of things.
>>
>>64428051
Essentially it boils down to this:

Are you seeking camaraderie and supreme technical knowledge

or

Relative comfort and specialization

Subs are a much smaller community where everyone knows something about everything. Systems are simpler as compared to carriers. Qualifications are everything. In my experience, submariners are ride or die, forever, with their shipmates, and generally, they have had a huge share of the proverbial kool aid.

Conversely, on an carrier, there is wifi (in some cases), full gyms, numerous galleys ect, however, your relationship to john j navy is essentially non-existent. I don't know the name of a single airplane person from my ship and I spent 4 years there. The hobo economy of "i'll give you x if you give me y" doesn't work as a carrier nuke as your work is so ambiguous and unknown to the avergae sailor that they view it as a given. No airplane person or yeoman on a carrier considers where their drinking water, heat, shower steam, electricity or hydraulic power comes from. From what I understand about subs, that gap is much smaller. Additionally, on a carrier, the systems are FAR more complicated, because;
1. you're never at peril of sinkining due to going dead in the water
2. there's room for it
On subs systems are simple due to them all being literal life saving systems. On a carrier, if a Reactor is offline due to a technical issue not covered by a technical manual, big deal, the other reactor has it covered, and if both are down, the boat will keep floating. This allows carrier sailors to get really deep in the weeds in complex systems, and functionally become local subject matter experts (SMEs). I knew guys who thought they were fucking power rangers. You want a checkout on x? you gotta talk to ETN3 shitass, he's the x power ranger. Y is broken? talk to ETN2 schmuckatelli, he's done the most y repairs.

Other than that, sub guys are typically BIG JEALOUS of surface guys and resent them for it.

When he had a retarded idea (e.g. "just shoot em in the legs!") they were willing to tell him it was a bad idea. This time around, big Pete will do whatever he's told because doing anything otherwise or even raising objections will leave him to fend for himself on his own independent qualifications... i.e., he'll have to swim based on his pedigree as a former nasty girl platoon leader, civil affairs guy, and Fox News host. CIC just can't handle being wrong. If he wants illegal deployments, YETH THIR!!! If he wants dubious strikes on civilian boats, YETH THIR!!! Milley committed treason against both Biden and Trump. Milley deserves to be hanged.
>>
>>64429751
What happened? PTSD from basic training?
>>
>>64430477
>that sounds like treason to me.
It was treason (or something close) for Stanislav Petrov to discard anything but his own gut feeling and refuse to launch Soviet nukes in 1983 when he got reports of inbound American ICBMs. He was, of course, completely right -- and his refusal to follow stupid, rigid orders which didn't correlate with his own assessment was what may very likely have saved the entire world from annihilation.

Milley, like him or hate him, was a career officer. Not so long ago, they used to swear oaths to the Constitution instead of professing ultimate loyalty to the CIC. Warning China if Trump gave a doubtlessly moronic order to attack China -- and thereby start a war -- is not only not treasonous but arguably the more constitutionally faithful option. After all, the President has no authority to unilaterally declare wars, right?

Countless stories out there from enlisted and officers recalling that Milley was an asshole.
His ocassional PR was bad and he left the military right after literally negotiating with terrorists who took US equipment and middlemanned it to China.
Yes you can say he was "forced" to do certain things but no one made him defend DEI practices, call China during Jan 6th, insult wounded soldiers he was responsible for, and countless other Milley-isms.
Btw he defended transgenders being kicked out of the military so I guess a broken clock is right twice a day.

Youd think they would just work with a pharma company to make them as common as hardtack and redbulls for guys with fucked brains like me so we can join and do shit ez with no issues.
Oh well maybe in the next life.
Anyways for you guys who have a chance and aren't mentally fucked. Make the most of it and be diligant as fuck, Id love to be in your shoes as i fell for the college scam and have to work retail after a year of applying cause I cant find a job in my degree field. I miss my short stint in the Navy before I was diagnosed and seperated after a year in service. (Always knew I was fucked in the brain but I tried as hard as I could to stay sober during all that recruiting process shit, almost thought i was gonna make it after finishing A school and could just tough it out before I went manic and had to exit.)

Dont think people appreciate just how much of a saftey net and ease of mind military service provides compared to job hunting and civilian cost of living. Do well to Remember this before you think about exiting. If you can be a lifer, do it. As soul sucking as it is. Theres millions more jobless 18 to 35 civvies that would kill for that kind of job security.
>>
>>64432535
Depends on the branch I think. Navy will throw you in fast as fuck if you pass immediate select standards and want to go soon. Soon as your paperwork is done I think I've seen people get short as 3 weeks notice. Reason I didn't put in for Air Force OTS was entirely because I didn't want to waste 3 years of my life with my thumb up my ass even if I graduated with a 3.97 GPA. I'm almost certain it has to be a shit test for people who had jobs in college and couldn't commit to ROTC

The recruitment crisis is manufactured.
They set lower and lower numbers for recruitment every year we arent in war but this year recruitment is up so they're just putting everyone on hold.

I was just at a MEPS even the infantry and combat role applicants were saying their ship date for basic was 2 or 3 months away. My basic is in March, atleast 4 other people said theirs were in March as well when I asked them.
A mechanic applicant said he had to wait until Feb. Cav scout said two months, HR 3 months. Some poor dude said he was waiting for 6 months already I forgot what job.

An officer applicant was there too he definitely wasnt getting expedited to basic this year. He looked really nervous but bro officer school looks fucking cushy as shit, nothing like enlisted basic/boot camp.

Youre comparing a senior General to an appointed politician.
SecDef leads officers from the back.
Officers lead enlisted.
Any sort of mistreatment from SecDef is completely inconsequential and does not penetrate beyond officers outside of policy.
Any mistreatment from Officers toward Enlisted is directly consequential to morale.
Milley did not always conduct himself in a manner that was inspiring toward morale. He stood for policies aiding in the denigration of the core composition of the military. He antagonized those around him and politically involved himself consistently in ways that were detrimental to the public image of the military. He was a heavily devisive senior officer and its really hard to not have an opinion on him if you are aware of him.
He wishes he could go down like Patton in the history books but he was a girl scout and will go down as such.
>>
>>64435079

>Every Marine a Rifleman™
>We self-police to look SHARP and PROFESSIONAL
>Our branch is the BEST branch, NEVER FORGET THAT
>(Also we have no money to treat you better even if we wanted to)
And it seems to work. Whether you call it healthy or cultist behavior, Marines seem to be proud to wear their uniform. And how often do you see a fat boy wearing MARPAT instead of OCP?

But whenever I hear about a Soldier having a miserable time, it tends not to be because of some difficult thing they have to do, but because they got screwed over, and the reason for the screwing over tends to be "fuck you lol". Pic related for example, as far as I can tell the Army is the only branch doing this bullshit extension.

I've never been in either of these branches, but that's my second-hand assessment. Assuming that's accurate, why is the Army like this?

Desu I hate Milley because he brought back battle rifle autism, killed LSAT, and primed NGSW to be all retarded. The other reasons are just extra.

Bullshit. We learned our lesson back in the Pacific that admirals cannot be trusted to responsibly plan and execute marine operations. Marines are a sea-delivered, self-contained mini-military. An MEU has organic fires, CAS, and even limited air-superiority capabilities. It is self-contained and a theater-level asset. The navy does not govern an entire theater. It governs the strictly seaborne components of that theater. For anything else, it has SEALs.

The USMC is cool as fuck and genuinely bleeding-edge in terms of organizational structure. It is a hypermodern Clausewitzian/Napoleonic group of independent corps and the product of centuries of real-world lessons in real wars, emblematic of (for now) the only country in the world with the ability and experience to field it in that capacity. By putting it back under the department of the navy, we lose a completely unique capability that no one else has... and all so pedantic fags can point back to their Wikipedia articles and rest happy that now the marines occupy their favored semantic niche.

Stretch your IT band and make use of the Physical Therapy equipment your platoon has whenever possible. Longest run you’ll do at OCS is about 5 mi. But you’ll be doing about 5-8 mi of movement daily, so do what you can to prevent further injuries.

OCS is pretty lame but it’s the last school you’ll attend if you don’t perform. TBS is an easy course made difficult by the infighting for desired billets and fact that most lieutenants suck.

The extension is happening because the people who cut orders for outprocessing are all furloughed.
>>
>>64436790
Tradition is the only real answer here. The Army has a transition of absolutely fucking over its people and there is not a single time in our history as a country that the Army has been the best branch to be in.

>spontaneous aortic dissection and pneumothorax
Hell no. Its not even nearly as severe as that.
I dont feel my heart against my chest wall so it cant be compressed. Dont have a history of abnormal heartbeat, no palpitations, no fainting or dizziness and fatigue.
Usually the more severe cases requiring surgery have a history of really obvious symptoms. Its likely going to get waived because it doesnt physically impede me whatsoever.

Unironically, Admin. So many promotions, orders, and career changing packages are being held up by the admin support guys being out of work. Much of the admin is handled by civilians these days, so we need them back if we want to unfuck the rest of the force.

From a practical perspective, after admin we should pay the forward deployed personnel, intel people, and the critical billets to support the current missions. Open up pay to the rest after that.

Rank and file.
The problem with modern politicians is they operate under the illusion that their head cannot be put inside the business end of a guillotine because... uhhh... it's current year, dude.
But the reality is if the Shutdown goes on for long enough and the average crayon eater isn't paid for long enough, then Trump could if he chose go full Caesar and march on Capitol Hill, escort out the ones he chooses to blame for the shutdown in chains, and then hold a vote to pay the nice soldier-man please.
Always pay the rank and file first. I don't care who the fuck you are or what century it is, pay the ones who can organize and carry out a coup before you do anything else.

The govt shutdown has halted a lot of that higher admin shit, so the paperwork isnt getting processed, it just means they get 45 more days on record and since they were already close to ETS its irrelevant

so if I haven't been perscribed it in 3 years, but never had the doctor write out "no longer needs X medication" it won't matter?
well shit.

>>64441981
You will just need a civilian doctor to confirm that you are off the meds and have been off of them for X amount of time. Not hard at all to do, very common issue that recruiters deal with.
