Do you like steel case? Any real negatives aside from inability to reload?
No problems but it should be cheaper. $20 in savings is a lmao. If it were $100-$120 like the old days tho...
>>64428189I don't use them because my range doesn't allow them. They do some magnet test on all ammo to make sure it's not steel core and don't even bother to test any steel case ammo it's just an automatic rejection, only brass is allowed.
>>64428189Steel is reloadable though. Just have to anneal them every time.
>>64428189In ARs if you don't clean your chamber regularly the hotter steel cases may stick and cause extraction issues. Up to and including breaking the extractor, depending on how fast your cyclic rate is and stuff. Seen lots of amateur gumsmiff jobs on FRT ARs this year and it's always the especially dirty guns combined with the cheap ammo that have issues first. Also the primers on Magtechs are apparently pretty fucking hard but that's not too big of an issue if you keep spare parts like a firing pin in your range bag. That issue is probably overblown, I haven't heard of them killing a pin. So probably won't need it anyway.
>>64428272They're being lazy jews, they can't sell the steel and they don't want to separate the brass from it
>>64428189maybe a tad dirtier because they can't expand like brass does after the round goes off, maybe marginally harder on extractors. I think in a defensive gun if it can't handle steel case it isn't worthy of the role, not that I'd like to continuously run it or any gun with steel cased ammo. I don't buy a whole lot of it but the times I have it ran just as good as anything else.I think it's pointless to buy steel cased 9mm for example if it costs $10.99 while the brass costs $11.99. If it was half the cost of brass like it should be I'd buy it all day.
>>64428296Man that's so gay if it's the actual reason. They said it's because they're worried about steel core ammo causing a fire in their backstop
>>64428296you ever see a range covered in unburned powder go whoosh? Takes about a second and a half, and then all your customers are getting flame broiled. Sparks are a big no-no, so setting the bar for safety with a cushion is just common sense. Some steel core rounds could have lead and copper only at the tip, and the steel is only inside the neck and shoulder of a cartridge. Such a bullet inside a steel case would behave exactly the same as a pure copper/lead bullet inside a steel case, when using a magnet to test it.
>>64428344What stupid round only puts the penetrator in the heel of the bullet? Sounds made up.
>>64428189They put more wear on the gun itself, brass is softer so it takes the wear.>>64428340No, steel sparks when it hits hard things, backstops build up a bunch of powder etc over the years and setting the range on fire by igniting it with steel projectiles is a thing that happens
>>64428353who says it's a penetrator? maybe some yugoslavian factory somewhere couldn't source enough lead so they stuck a chunk of 5mm steel rod in the tail end of every bullet for three weeks in 1983, you haven't seen every bullet ever created and neither has anyone else. Imagine not trying as hard as you can to keep people from catching on fire in your facility. That's what you're arguing against.
>>64428365Arguing about completely imaginary fabrications? Are there razor blades in all of your apples too?
>>64428370yes but I put them there to keep the people in my walls from stealing my produce
>>64428370I'm arguing about completely possible scenarios and completely guaranteed lawsuits in cases of said scenarios, and possibly even criminal charges in certain states.
>>64428381Can you post a single example of one in existence?
>>64428340Maybe their backstop shouldn't be flammable.
>>64428359>backstops build up a bunch of powder etc over the yearsPure fuddlore.
>>64428365Didn't the Chinese and Russians produce the majority of their 7.62x39 with mild steel cores because muh economy?
>>64428189>wheel gatssure>soviet surplussure>semi auto pistolsno>ar15snoi've shot a shitload of surplus steel case and new production through my nugget and sks but in all my more modern stuff it's either brass or get this aluminum case
>>64428508Sure, unburned powder probably goes straight to heaven as God raptures it away, having been proven worthy.
>>64428189the bullet construction tends to be cheaper on steel case and it ends up wearing out your bore. I don't remember the specifics but iirc it uses copper plated steel jackets instead of copper jackets. last time I checked steel case is barely cheaper than cheap brass cased ammo so it didn't seem worth it to me but idk
>>64428618>Aluminium caseCare to expand? Not come across that before
>>64428746super dirt cheap, federal usually. only 9mm now that I think about it. a little dirty.
>>64428511yes, and not just 7.62x39 but all other small arms military cartridges, to save up on lead>>64428344>steel core>steel jacket>steel casei wonder if so many people are being intentionally dishonest instead of just confusing those
>>64428837Soviet tok ammo was actually lead core with bimetal jacket. The chinese went steel core with copper or bimetal jacket for some reason.
>>64428189>every range hates the stuff>otherwise perfectly reliable guns also seem to hate it>coated in some shit to make the steel slippery which rubs/chips/melts off and gums up internals over time>usually manufactured in some third world shithole and comes with all the associated downsidesAll for a whopping ~$10 less than brass when buying 1000 rounds
>>64428620They dont clean up more than once a decade? Maybe they deserve to burn down.
not worth the breechface wear
>>64428189>Any real negatives aside from inability to reload?Weight if you have noodle arms.
>>64428189>steel case for soviet and chinese guns>brass case for western gunsthat's what I do
>>64428189Nerds bitched about chamber erosion after thousands of rounds. I wouldn't pass up a mag dump or two but I try to avoid steel case ammo long term. I heard the AK was built for the stuff. It makes sense if they still had that 300$ price tag. Steel ammo is now identical in price to brass.
>>64428620>unburned powder travels hundreds of yards to collect on soil and then rain does nothingyeah
>>64428340thats bullshit, i work at a range and out backstop is cut up tires in a huge pile. fire is a concern but generally from stupid tracers or some asshole wanting to try dragons breath. >>64428344>unburned powder go whooshwhat kind of shit ass dirty range are you visiting? if there is that much build up i wouldnt wanna go on that range without full on fucking MOPP 4 dress simply due to lead levels. gun powder buildup is far less worrisome than lead levels
