How did Boeing bungle their F-35 proposal so badly?
>>64429366>cocksneed fartin
>>64429366The vtol requirement evolved out of a DARPA project Lockheed was the major contractor on, so they had a leg up to start with. Boeing came in with worse tech there, but then also bungled the wing construction as they knew composites had a ton of potential, but unfortunately they weren’t there with them in terms of manufacturing ability so the prototype wing came in ~5klbs overweight if memory serves. There’s also the issue that Boeing proper hadn’t had a fighter adopted since the Peashooter, and the major design work was done before the McDD merger, and they in fact had submitted a competing bid in the early stages of the competition. Boeing had an McDD team do their best to salvage something resembling the basic design as the program neared its end, and they did their best, but Lockheed had things in the bag by that point and had the better design even post revision. Do note that Phantom Works and Boeing St. Louis are the legacy of McDonnell Douglas which is why Boeing was able to win F-47 and is competitive enough against Northrop Grumman that they’re having trouble picking a winner, despite the justified industrial base concerns in regards to giving Boeing a 6th gen monopoly.

>>64429366Fatjaw looked ugly. F35 is halo f16 dude. If it looks like halo it gets acquired
>>64429366The X-32 was build for the Common Affordable Lightweight Fighter project, please note that the affordable part was ditched and it became the Joint Strike Fighter program meaning the much more expensive and capable X-35 won.I hate Boeing as much as anyone with common sense does but is this case it really wasn't their fault that the pentagon changed the requirements.
They bungled the prototype in that the VTOL wasn't selectable yet and the shape of the plane going to be much different, but the one piece composite upper skin was going to be crazy cool. That and Lockheed underbid the shit out of the per aircraft cost and are making it up in repairs.
>>64429525based, this anon knows exactly what's up
>>64429404>as they knew composites had a ton of potential, but unfortunately they weren’t there with them in terms of manufacturing abilityRight, it's worth remembering that before fully rotting Boeing did get there with composites in the 787. That plane is genuinely well liked (and a great plane to fly on), and good fuel savings as promised as well as other composite benefits. But it also had a fly date 11 years after the JSF stuff started flying and still had a ton of challenges, there was a LOT of cooking to start running composites in major aircraft in a big way.Not that Boeing's design didn't have other challenges too as you and other anons have said but they weren't wrong about the potential of composites, but they didn't have the timing right either.

Did Ukraine successfully strike a major target? Why are suddenly we getting these Armatard tier spams?
>>64429366They didn't, Lockheed just had a functioning prototype already when the RFP went out.
>>64430066My God, you people are like the fucking seagulls from Finding Nemo, just replace mine with ukraine.
>>64430087This is to ignore the vatniks themselves false flagging as their opponents in an obnoxious way, or the board’s resident tards starting the 100th F35 seethe thread of the week with furry/anime spam, and so on is all tiresome from the start.
