I need to get one
>>64431410It's on my list of funs to buy. Which out of the gorillion different models is a good one to start with? Or is it better to get the cheapest one I can find and buy nice aftermarket parts? Use case is plinking and doing dumb shit innawoods, and I don't particularly care about wood vs. plastic.
>>64431462Buy a normal one, buy a bolt buffer with it, sub $10, and consider buying a better trigger. If you treat them with respect they're very nice small game rifles
>>64431462The older ones had a blued receiver. Recent ones have some kind of coat, something like cerakote. It sometimes peels near the charging handle over time. Getting aftermarket iron sights are a must, the offerings from tech sights are the best
Yeah
>>64431410>tfw no 22 enjoyer gf
>>64431519How do you like that m1 stock? Ive been wanting to get one, maybe do a refinish on it.
>>64431536The finish is awful, but the proportions feel better as an adult over the stocks Ruger puts on them in the factory.
>>6443141010/22s are fun to chew on too
>>64431539Is yours from Sarco? West one? Eabco?
I mean... I've got 2 air guns in .22I wanna get that STG thing in .22
>>64431570https://www.sarcoinc.com/ruger-10-22-stock-m1-carbine-style-with-oiler-and-sling/I believe it was this one.
>>64431489>>64431518Got it. Is something like this gtg?
>>64431528Real talk, though. What’s the hottest 22 lr load known to man? Expansion is obviously gonna be a meme with 22, so poking a high amount of 22 caliber holes as deep as possible in as short as possible an amount of time in your target is paramount.
>>6443151810/22s never ever had a blued receiver. you cant blue aluminum.
>>64431590Yessir
>>64431590Solid option for a red dot or prism/scope setup
>>64431619Yup you are correct, definitely not blued. I think they used to be anodized back before they were coated/painted?
i kinda want the manlicker stockam i gay?
>>64431657No, manlickers are comfy, also fuck CZ for discontinuing all their manlicker rifles
>>64431669then its settledi'm gonna get one and finally get my rifleman patch at appleseed with it
>>64431657I would get one but don't feel like shelling out $300 on a stock for a $120 rifle
im got an old amt lightning 22/25 that refuses to feed. dead trigger, not pulling ammo from the mag, fte. should i look into getting new springs for it or maybe it's just the mags?
>>64431410I'll upload mine later; it's PIMP /integrally suppressed
Anyone tried the new brownells receiver?
I got scary black rifle stock for my 10/22 and my wife was hesitant to play with mine. She ended up preferring my rifle over her 'nicer looking' one.>wife prefers muh pistol grip
>>64431727The grand canyon is beautiful
>>64431651I bought one new in 2008 that had this crackle finish on it, kinda like older glocks frying pan finish but more pronounced. I don't have it anymore or I'd post a pic.
The stock on my 10/22 broke and I went to a larger gun store hoping to find something. Then I just got carried away. I hunt grouse with it.
Used to shoot my dad's 10/22 a lot when I was younger. I remember the 30rd mags always had some issues, what's up with that
>>64431846were they Ruger BX-25 mags or the shitty old 30 round mags? Newer Ruger mags work well for me
I love this little nigga more than you can believe.
>>64431410The only thing I dislike is the bolt release. I can seemingly never get it to release.
>>64431906There's a dremel-mod you can do to turn the bolt lock into a slingshot hold open
>>64431638>>64431643Danke
>>64432007Looks like it doesn't have iron sight dovetails
>>64431536Mine came almost entirely unfinished, had to put a lot of elbow grease into it. And quite frankly, it's dogshit, the center bottom attachment point came half-stripped so it wobbles now. Felt like such a jackass for paying MORE money, should have just gotten the basic on.
Not a 10/22 but I love my 77/22 All Weather and it’s a shame I haven’t gotten to shoot more with it. Takes 10/22 mags rather than 10/22-like mags and is really accurate. Got the boat-paddle stock on it. Sucks that they’re apparently discontinued and rather rare. Got it along with extra ruger scope rings, extra mag, extra striker/spring and spring for trigger along with a sling all for the equivalent of 200 bucks.Think I got a pretty good deal on it
>>64431778Here it is
what the heck do I need to make this little blaster boycan't identify the pieces at all since I don't into 10/22
>>64431657No, Anon, it’s fine. Licking men isn’t gay, the balls don’t touch.
>>64432831Archangel kit on a 10/22 Charger

>>64432831Ugly as fuck and yet sexy ass fuck at the same time. Dam.
>>64433107thanks>>64433329yea isn't it great?
>>64432831you can just put a brace on the factory stock if you're not an ork, and that thing's an nfa weapon that you have to notify the atf in advance to take across state lines
>>64435102Do you think I give a good golly fuck about the classification status of my rifle and where I can take it? You cannot comply your way out of tyranny.
>>64431906Same. I fucking hate the bolt release on my 10/22 takedown, so I just use a CMMG .22lr converter in my AR.I don't have a dremel to play amateur gunsmith with. Has anyone used one of those Kidd automatic bolt release mods or others that are floating around?
>>64435135
>>64435229a dremel costs about as much as one or two aftermarket parts, pic rel is $40 on amazon, and you'll build skills you can use to put finishing touches on all your future firearms. Stuff we buy's not going to get better over time. They're going to keep printing money. If you just throw the fake money at every single problem, a day will come when all your shit is broken, your money won't buy a fix, and you have no skills.
forgot pic
>>64435277>>64435229>dremel gun partsSounds like a way to fuck something up real fast. I’d just use a small file. Save the dremel for shaping new parts out of sheet steel or something.
>>64435281If you’re using cheap chink cutting discs like these then please wear safety glasses. Abrasive discs can shatter, which at that speed is more of an explosion. Any disc can shatter too, I’d just be more careful with the factory seconds. You should probably be wearing eye protection anyway just because abrasive cutting necessitates spraying hot shards of metal everywhere.
>>64436848yeah I use files too, got myself a nice pferd set, but dremel's the best tool by far for polishing feed ramps and other friction surfaces. I had to put a bit of radius on a section of the chamber mouth of my 10/22, it was shaving every bullet but now it feeds very nicely. I did the shaping with the file and then polished it up with the dremel. The magazine lips can benefit from polishing too.
>>64436873>>64436848Thanks anons. I ended up just filing it down. Took like 10 minutes and it works perfectly now. Should've done it sooner but for some reason I always thought there was going to be more to it.
>>64431417>>64431410Based Tech Sights enjoyers. I think I’d rather have the TSR?100. I got mine in high school, have changed it out a lot since 1990 but still love it.
>>64431462Just get one of the barebones models with a barrel band, they're cheap and gtg out of the box. Become obsessed and mod it until you have a Rifle of Theseus, then assemble another 10/22 out of the original parts. Many such cases.

>>64431410Was going to post and totally forgot. Too busy. To contribute, my British re-import with 1/2x20 threaded barrel, sporter stock.
>>64439004maybe the first bull pup i may be jealous of
Would have gotten one ages ago, if I could just find one with iron sights as well as threaded barrel on this side of the Atlantic. Also, are the takedowns a meme?
>>64431410Proofmarks on my Brit re-import.>>64431462IMO grab the cheapest model you can find and build off of that rifle as a starting point unless you need parts only available on certain models and not available via ShopRuger/only available secondhand; for example, if you want a threaded barrel with iron sights, that means you need to buy one of about four models including 31113, 31191 (discontinued?), 31216 (Magpul carbine), 31217 (Magpul carbine, stainless), 31164 (stainless, Bass Pro Exclusive, Discontinued?). My go-to recommendation for anons wanting the cheapest 10/22 used to be the 1151 (carbine, plastic stock, ~$200 +/- $20 depending on time of year) but Ruger delisted it on their site so my assumption is it's discontinued. The 1103 (traditional/original wood stock carbine) is only $197 right now through BFG outfitters; that's pretty damn cheap and the prices on the 1103 have been pretty good, maybe because the 1151 is gone. Might get cheaper closer to Black Friday/Christmas time but the $20 savings isn't worth it; 10/22 prices fluctuate about +/- $20, sometimes $30 as far as I can tell. Not worth the waiting game IMO unless you really don't need it now.https://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/736676011032 ($197 1103 model)Or if you want a shorter barrel, maybe consider the compact model so you get a 16.12" barrel instead of an 18.5 as is standard. The stock is shorter though IIRC and I think the standard carbine is about as short as I'd want to go; fits me very well. Only the 31114 is available ATM which is odd; they usually have about two or three in this section IIRC.https://ruger.com/products/1022Compact/models.htmlThere are also some super long barrel 10/22s in the Sporter section including 20" (11165, 21196, 31166, 31167) and 22" (1149, 1150) but I think 18.5" and even the 16.12" are more than enough barrel, especially with a silencer (adds another ~6" to OAL). 22LR hits its max velocity around 12-16".>>64431518Anodized, not blued.
>>64439293High tower armory, gonna get one once I get a new receiver and barrel
>>64431721What mags are you using? If not Ruger brand, try Ruger. A lot of aftermarket mags suuuuuck from what I've been told (and from my limited collection of used 3rd party mags, it seems pretty true).>>64431784IIRC those were made in a pretty short window. Shame because it's a neat variation and it'd look good on certain models.>2008: Five Millionth 10/22 manufactured, Trigger housings switched to plastic, extended mag release added, stock material switched to maple, Ruger Rimfire Challenge is started, finish on the receivers changed to a rough texture.https://tincanbandit.blogspot.com/2016/03/1022-facts.htmlI want to say that was switched back by about 2009 or 2010. I have to wonder if that finish swap was done as a temporary distraction for their switch to plastic trigger groups but I really can't prove it. Not that the plastic groups are bad; I've felt a couple BNIB that were better than worn in cast groups.>>64431819Factory or aftermarket barrel?>>64431846Aftermarket mags kinda sucked and Ruger BX-15 and BX-25 mags have a revision somewhere around the 2014-2020 era that improves their reliability and doesn't allow for the 22LR case shim fix anymore. Might want to try new mags if you're having issues. I have a 30rd doublestack the size of a BX-25 that split its epoxy/sonic welded seam on its own just bouncing around in a box. It's never been loaded since I bought it. At least I get to peek in one for a change as they're not serviceable otherwise.
>>64431518>The 10/22 receivers were anodized until 1976 when a Teflon coating began to be used, which was later changed to a powder coating.https://tincanbandit.blogspot.com/2016/03/1022-facts.htmlAnd of course the wrinkle paint as shown above in 2008-????.>>64431906>>64431973>>64435229Volquartsen auto bolt release, use a file, or buy a Harbor Freight "Dremel" which is surprisingly good and won't gorilla strength torque itself out of your hand. You have to go slow but it surprisingly works well; I actually prefer it for delicate operations due to the lack of torque (+3 sec auto-shutoff when it jams), and small size. I don't know how the fuck it functions for $10 but it also comes with a ton of attachments and a whole tube of cutoff wheels all for the same price you'd pay for a tube of Dremel brand cutoff wheels. Also yeah wear your shooting glasses while using these things like >>64436852 said.
>>64439462>or aftermarket barrel?Green River.
>>6443141022 Charger with the Shockwave Blade.
>>64439310>iron sight+threaded barrel modelThey're pretty uncommon even here in the US where they're made, though it seems they used to make special export-only models which were threaded. Like I said in a different reply to someone else, you have:>31113>31191 (discontinued?)>31216 (Magpul carbine)>31217 (Magpul carbine, stainless)>31164 (stainless, Bass Pro Exclusive, Discontinued?)But that really only leaves you with 31113, 31216, and 31217, and that's only if they're even exported. If you're British or you have the ability to import used guns from their market, you might want to check stores or auction houses (Holt's is the only one I know) to find an old mid-90s 10/22 Sporter model 01122 which is a discontinued model (pic related) that has a sporter stock, iron sights, dovetail rail (removable), and a barrel threaded 1/2x20. Adapters are available to make it accept 1/2x28 silencers which is the only reason I can silence it here in the US as pretty much no one makes 1/2x20 silencers here AFAIK being an outdated standard 22LR rifle muzzle thread even in Europe.(cont.)
>>64439310Muzzle threads, 1/2x28 vs 1/2x20. 1/2x28 won't even start threading IIRC which is how I found out I had 1/2x20. Left is the 1/2x20 and right the 1/2x28 with a thread cover (why the hell did I do that?). Threaded section seems longer as well.>are TDs a meme?IMO they're kinda useless as I don't trust it to retain zero for hunting small game when you break it apart. Unlike old American 22s from the early 1900s, the top of the receiver does not come with the barrel when you use the TD lever meaning the scope isn't attached to the barrel. There are fixes to put a rail on the barrel but IMO it's silly; one or two of the handful of options for doing that also just clamp to the barrel IIRC, which I really don't trust to retain zero. If you use iron sights, this isn't as much of an issue. Receiver mounted peep sights might have the same issue as scopes, though. Plus if the tension is off with the TD mechanism it can screw with the reliability IIRC. A folding stock (Samson, Choate, etc) removes a lot of length when folded; while it's not as much it's definitely enough to be useful (I prefer one when hunting for retrieving game from thick brush). The Samson stock saves 9.5" (~240mm) when folded which is huge. The stock only sticks out 2.5" (~63mm) from the back of the receiver or 3.5" (~89mm) including pistol grip when folded. A standard 18.5" Sporter with a threaded barrel is about 37" (~940mm) long overall. With a folding stock it'd be about 27.5" (~699mm).
>>64431657Ahoy ploy
(not OC but neat)
I got a cool front sight for my charger, had to drill & tap the barrel to install a ramp
I'm probably the only American in the US without one. Is any other version worth getting over the standard wood stock and iron sights one?
>>64439432That's fucking cool anon.
>>64442402Depends; do you have any specific preferences? Silencing/threaded barrel? Irons? Barrel length? ~90% of the time I'd recommend the standard model. In person even higher. Few exceptions unless someone wants irons and threaded barrel. If you want something that isn't only available on a specific model then you can pretty much make it whatever you want. Hell, barrel changes require little more than an allen key set for the stock, barrel band, and two screws on the barrel clamp. Hard to get a FAT wrench in there which bugs me only because I like knowing my torque on my screws is more or less exactly what it should be. But very easy nonetheless.
>>64431592I'd say .22lr Federal Punch, it's a 29gr roundnose that penetrates pretty deep with pistol length barrels.
>>6443283110/22 SBR gang. This is retardedly fun
>>64431585Jesus man, is your whole house wrapped in tape?
>>64431592Pistol or rifle? Because if rifle, this shit is pretty nuts. Also available in hollowpoint 30gr.
>>64431592Also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtPtkZWiQ9Y
I dropped a couple of my bx25 mags at the range pretty hard, they fed fine after that but is there any damage to them? I baby the shit out of everything I own
>>64447049I have a handful of BX-15s I use for hunting. I beat on them even if I don't intend to and I drop empty mags when practicing at the range every now and then. I wouldn't do it on concrete but grass or gravel is probably fine, just gets some scratches. Loaded, maybe a bigger potential for damage since the BX-25s have 10 more rounds worth of weight in them. Having that metal block and the quality of plastic I think they're a lot less likely to break than a lot of other mags though. Really no weight to the guts inside, either.
>>64439432>High tower armory>By purchasing this item, the buyer is acknowledging they understand their state and local laws and intend to comply with any further infringements on their rights.
