>listening to a random video on Rhodesian fireforce>helicopters dropped groups of 4 soldiers into thick african bush to chase after the communist guerilla fighters>they generally only carried a FAL with 2-4 spare magazines>machinegunners only carried 1 or 2 belts>they went into combat wearing shorts and a t-shirt and tennis shoes with no sustainment gear like water bottles or rationsHow the fuck did they not get instantly pinned down, outflanked and wiped out? You're there with your FAL and 80 rounds of ammo advancing on a platoon of guerillas kitted out for deep infiltration behind enemy lines. You'd think the guerillas would just charge towards the helicopter landing site and immediately pin down the 4 guys who got dropped off.
This guy is literally fucking naked carrying 200 rounds on him tops.
>>64431908Different war, but was reading about Executive Outcomes in Sierra Leone, and they didn't really fight so many "battles" because the enemy RUF rebels would basically get destroyed immediately upon contact. Take several South African war veterans dropped several kilometers from their objective, marching in a line towards the enemy, and going prone upon contact while doing alternating fire. The RUF would immediately flee and then run down predictable escape paths pre-sighted for mortar fire and get, in the words of one mercenary, "culled." Also the mercenaries had a Hind gunship.I think fireforce tactics in Rhodesia were similar? I haven't read about it much at all to be honest, but they'd pursue fleeing rebels with helicopters and shoot them down from the air, right? Someone c/d that or help me out here.
*several dozen South African war veterans (left a word out)
>>64431908The Fireforce was a QRF team against African irregulars on home turf. They're policing their own beat. It was the Sealous Scouts who infiltrated enemy territory on foot carrying everything they needed to sustain them.
They act more like quickly responding law enforcement that intends to kill the enemy from the start. They outnumber and outmaneuver the force they are surgically attacking even if they don't outnumber the enemies in the region. Most cops don't carry a lot either, but when 30 of them swarm a car of gang members with helicopter support the fighting ends quickly.Picture that but with roe that expects you to kill them and everyone using rifles and machineguns by default, and artillery support just in case the enemy manages to resist long enough to call it in or set it up.
>>64431908Their adversaries did not perform any kind of coordinated tactics or fire & maneuver. In Fireforce, Chris Cocks describes the sole tactic most commonly used by a ZANLA guerilla (other than running from the sound of helicopters) was to hide in or near a bush and hold very still without firing as the Rhodesians approached; until they spotted him and shot him. The typical fireforce deployment moreso resembled a driven hunt than a modern infantry engagement.
>>64431908They have K car
>>64431958Sure the Selous Scouts did deep infiltration but the enemy guerillas were the ones regularly doing deep infiltration. They were coming from training camps in Tanzania or Zambia and walking into Rhodesia to attack villages and farms.>>64432006Fireforce would land a few helicopters on one side and then attack the guerillas pushing them towards a stop group of other Fireforce. What I don't understand is why the guerillas didn't just individually swarm the helicopters since they could only drop 4 guys at a time with very limited ammunition due to the weight restrictions on the helicopter
Any standard account ive heard was extra magazines where ever they could carry them. They were also fighting complete retards who only attacked rural farming families at night as their only claim to fame.
>>64432430>They were also fighting complete retardsAnd lost to them
>>64432467There were a lot of retards and they reproduced like bunnies. Think of Idiocracy
>>64432474maybe the rhodies weren't as good as their propaganda makes them out to be, says a lot that even SA left them out to hang
Another thing to remember is if they have taken any prisoners, that usually means someone gets left behind. Helicopters could carry only 4 passengers, so if they had prisoners, they had to leave their own men behind while they transport the prisoners. Thats if its a real fireforce operation, where no land support was available.
What you seem to understand of combat is essentially modern day trenches without the trenches. Youve got your roe and troop command and the focus is more or less, outlast or rout the enemy, move, repeat, drop a big explosion on them if the juice aint worth the squeeze. What the rhoadies were doing was unrestricted run and gun assault on ill prepared, ill equipped, poorly structured, no tactics criminals. Not much need for more than 100 rounds when you're bagging a small group of bushmen from 50 meter and shooting everything that moves with prejudice.
>>6443190820 rounds in an FAL mag, 20 slotted floppies, a hundred more running away.
>>64432467>Literal few thousand rhodies backed by south africa and der juden of all people>vs hundreds of thousands of room temp in celsius iq disposable melaninated individuals who were aided and supplied by literally all but 1 country in the region plus china and Russia/ussr >Still manage to stack bodies 1000:1>Only lose because of international political pressure and isolation preventing any possibility of them overcoming the impossible numbers difference
>>64432503The Rhodesians won because they had total air superiority over their country and any neighboring country they flew into to conduct their raids. They would go into Zambia with fleets of bombers and drop thousands of pounds of bombs on guerilla training camps. Then they would drop hundreds of paratroopers onto the target who were supported by dozens of helicopter gunships circling overhead.Imagine you're some illiterate african conscripted into one of the communist terrorist armies and you run out on parade just to get gunned down by 10 trucks with MAG58s on them
Loose ammo is common today even if people only run a handful of mags.
>>64431908>platoon of guerillasIn theory, in reality most of them had very little unit cohesion and struggled with anything except the most basic of small unit tactics
>>64431908Their opposition had pretty much zero morale and discipline.Did you see those recent videos with columns of Afghan soldiers/militias routing in panic simply because some Pakistani soldiers shot in their general direction?Something like that, only even worse because those African guerrillas had zero education on top of poor training and would believe the dumbest possible superstitions.
>>64432532It says something about the Rhodies that they were so retarded that they managed to get fucking apartheid era South Africa to stop supporting them.
>>64434058Its more that Communists were doing a number on the west about Colonialism guilt tripping and Rhodesia was the weakest state. It was more the pressure from leftists on Britain to stop supporting any former colonies that caused this even though Cuba and the USSR were actively trying to take over Africa for Communism. South Africa almost formed a third cold war alliance with Israel as the colonial block.
>>64431942they were similar because said mercenary force was the displaced Rhodesians. they took the Hind with them when the nation fell. since they were the only ones that understood the concept of maintenance, they were also the only ones that could keep the gun ship in working condition.

>>64434387>A TANKthey should put that on a Bradley
>>64434286>they took the Hind with them when the nation fell.Where the hell Rhodesia got a fucking Hind from. I'm more inclined to believe they got the in 90's after commie countries went bankrupt, not necessarily by exactly legal means.
>>64435818probably same situation as this
>>64431908fire disciplineimpulse controlit's a white thingdon't worry about it
>>64432474>reproduced like bunnies.In the jungle?
>>64435981In 70's and 80's Hind would have had plenty of buyers. Kind of attention T-55 might have had in 50's for glow niggers. Burgers did plenty of work to get one in 1988. Also people from executive outcomes have said that they got their commie gear from eastern Europe.
>>64434387>CHEDDER BOBThis is incredible.
