>Short Stroke Piston SystemArmalites with this cost more than 1500$ Did this thing fly under the radar? I'm trying to find "bad news" on the thing, but I can't so far.
>bad newsThe fact that it still uses the ergonomic abomination which is the top charging handle
why did you call them armalites?
>>64433413You'll use it once and with that realization it's actually in the best spot. You are just a noshoots who doesn't know shit
>>64433395Only issue is that there isn't much aftermarket support for it. You can't fit most rails on it except for some Taiwanese air shit ones. The front sight can't be folded down or replaced.
>>64433395I have one. Decent gun. Low aftermarket support as others said. Biaotac makes modern rails for it that are used by the Taiwanese military. Hard to get your hands on though. But if you put one on your gun it ends up looking like every other AR out there. I have the recon rail and its very solid.
>>64433395Subpar barrels hurt it. Im not interested in any semi auto withiut a chrome lined barrel otherwise id pick a few of those up in various barrel lengths. Other that that, mounting a light isnt straightforward and the available rails suck.
>>64433395Love mine, I would never ever rely on it if SHTF tho, they made some weird design decisions as well such as using just a fuckoff huge nut to secure the buffer tube, and a really strange rear sight that's secured by a spring, the most notable being their muzzle brake/FH that uses a tension nut as opposed to standard or crush washers...which also makes timing it and keeping it timed a fucking bitch, I cheated and just put a crush washer and like 5 shims behind the brake. Those details aside, it's basically what an HK416 should actually cost.
>>64433449It's not actually in the best spot. Browning didn't even design it that way, it was a decision hastily made in a federal government boardroom somewhere. No one since has designed even a remotely popular not-AR15 firearm with this style of charging handle as standard equipment, for good reason. It has several major issues. Firstly is it is almost guaranteed to spray gas back in your face if you are using a can. Secondly it makes having a cheek riser on your stock awkward. Thirdly it is simply not ergonomic to use whatsoever while you are holding a cheek weld. Why the fuck is "buy a better charging handle" almost the first thing people do with their stock AR-15? Whether it's buying an ambi charging handle, one with larger "wings" or one specifically meant to stop gas blasting back. It's because the stock design is inherently unfixable government slop. There's a good reason everyone and their mother is moving to forward-mounted, non reciprocating left/right swappable charging handles. The top mounted charging handle is a humiliation ritual by the federal government and nothing more.
>>64433844mine opens with every shot and boops me on the nose, it's sad to hear your gun doesn't love you
>>64433844>Browning didn't even design it that way, it was a decision hastily made in a federal government boardroom somewhere.Eugene Stoner came up with both the top charging handle that was under the carrying handle AND the rear T handle you lying retard
>>64433918Thankfully he realized his folly and all of his subsequent designs had a right side reciprocrating charging handle just as our lord and saviour Browning (PBUH) intended
Why should I get one over a BRN-4 or Caracal upper besides price?
>>64433395Needs a forward assist and brass deflector, but otherwise they seem pretty ok. I don't hear people complain about them either.>>64433413>>64433844The charging handle is literally fine, you're using the LRBHO +95% of the time anyway.>>64433708Is it as hard overgassed as the HK416?
>>64433395>no brass reflectorInto the trash
>>64433395Its pretty good, the finish on it had an interesting texture - not rough per say, but imagine anodization with a texture almost like parkerization. I liked it for what it was but sold it due to the lack of use. I've been on and off about getting another one over the years, if I do I will likely get its own lower and make it look as much like an actual type 91 as possible.
>>64434009I've shot mine with an FRT and it gets really gassy yeah, not as bad as a 416 tho.
>>64433984Being issued by an actual military, and thus hopefully more reliable and durable, although everything about this gun that wasn't lifted directly from the AR15 feels like it was designed by someone who isn't familiar with firearms.
>>64434009I nearly forgot the most egregious design decision actually, the non-standard buffer tube, it's not mil or commercial spec.
>>64433635>muh chrome line!Get with the times grandpa
>>64434107cope
>>64434133Go back to arfcom, Dale. Chrome lining hasn't been meta for a long time. There are more things to consider when you scratch your balding scalp and think about what makes a barrel subpar. But I know it's hard to Google things when your diaper is full of boomer crap.
>>64433395The only reason to have a buffer tube is to take advantage of a stoner gas system. Once you move away from that you may as well get an upper that doesn't require the added hassle of a buffer tube, the coices are endless now, this isn't 2001.
>>64434188What added hassle is associated with having a reciever extension on your AR? Are there really "endless choices" when it comes to bufferless AR rifles or are you a nogunz r-tard?
>>64433844>Browning didn't design the AR that wayJust shift+click this whole entire threade
>>64433844This post is a bot.
>>64434819I can't prove I'm not a bot, but nothing I said was incorrect, so it doesn't matter.
>>64434830>Browning
>>64433395ARAK-21 was a better piston upper.>monolithic billet upper>full top rail>adjustable gas block>ambi charging handle>option for ambi ejection>bulletproof long stroke gas piston system>recoil springs in the upper, no buffer or buffer tube needed>quick change barrels, all you needed was an Allen Wrench to remove the bottom of the handguard>swap between 5.56, 7.62, .300 AAC by swapping barrels and bolt face>built like a tank, not a single piece of plastic on it>$1200 retail when they were in productionwill never forgive Faxon for dumping them, glad i have one.
>>64434858How is yours like? I remember some people bitching about them, but never specifying what their problems were.>>64434830Shut up, nigger.
>>64433395I would rather trust my life to Saudi's Caracal 816 than that disgusting 80s junk shit. 816 is just a Haenel without the gay OTB bcg like mr556 and brn4
>>64434869heavy, but solid, never given me any trouble.
>>64434188Buffer tube is actually a pretty elegant design choise for the placement of the mainspring and distribution of the bolt carrier mass. It keep the rifle nice and narrow and keeps the moving masses concentric with the barrel. The buffer tube being a strong but light aluminum tube also works quite efficiently as a stock mount. There's a reason the chinks went with the design for their new QBZ191.
>>64433395>>64433486this, the rail for the purpriatory for grip is made by like 1 comapnythat said its never jammed on me for anything but picking up loose ammo of the range mud to run in it....and even then it waas just a splash of the water bottle and it was back in bizits cool>>64434871whats it like to have both horrible taste, retarded opions and be a total faggot.
>>64433844>Firstly is it is almost guaranteed to spray gas back in your face if you are using a can.You dont even have a gun much less a can. parrot
>>64434858Anybody that uses that furniture as photo op is full retard
>>64433413Literally not a problem unless you use a can on a DI rifle. And since we're talking about a piston upper, that's not relevant.
>>64433844>Browning
>>64433395My anecdotal experience with it was that it performed extremely poorly. My buddy bought one and it refused to cycle. I would not spend the money on it. If you really have a hard on for piston ars and anecdotes, my pws mk116 mod1-p has been through several thousand rounds and never once had a failure, fwiw, ymmv
They've been around a long time. I wish I had tried out their elcan imitation while they still made it
>>64435080Not him, but even though it's ugly and I'd never own it, it is comfortable
>>64433395>>64433413>>64434009If you want a modern rifle with logical and ergonomic features, get a modern rifle. The AR is a relic of the 1950s. It has stupid design flaws and compromises. You can get a rifle with a better selector throw, side charging handle, no need for a forward assist, better system than DI, easier to service beyond field strip, etc. There's no point to sticking to this old arcane rifle. It's like guys sticking to AKs but at least AKs are still he most prolific service rifle. The AR is soon to be out of service.
>>64435740Oh and the fucking BUFFER TUBE that you can't fold or mortar because if it gets bent your rifle won't cycle lmao. No thanks, that's always been the main deal breaker after getting toxic gas shot directly up my nostrils because of the heretical charging handle placement.
>>64435740Cope and seethe, the AR is still the top rifle
I have a 14.5” one for sale if interested. Parts bin clean out. T91 is an awesome gun.
>>64435598> even though it's ugly and I'd never own it, it is comfortable>it is comfortableYou breathe out of your mouth and you use your forward hand to turn the safety off huh? There's no way to reach the safety unless you have a freakishly long thumb with that stock that prevents you from angling your wrist
>>64435740I would rather take picrel than whatever nonsense is in this picture. Just realized this is AI slop as I finished typing it. Apply yourself.
>>64436203>A1 with ACOGAlmost a perfect rifle. Add the A2 brass deflector, handguards, and then 30rd mags, and that's it.
>>64433844I sure hope you're trolling. You 100% don't own guns though
>>64436212I usually shoot with 30 rounders, I just like the 20s for pics. Still prefer the triangle handguards over the round aesthetically and ergonomically
>>64435740Do you do standup comedy?
>>64433418https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehukpdse8_w&list=RDehukpdse8_w&start_radio=1Thanks for reminding me of this song. Technically the AR-15 stand for Armalite design-15. Armalite is the correct term for AR. And it's fucking blessed.
>>64433844This. I cant understand these retards buying guns where the charging handle flies back at their face with every shot. Its no wonder amerisharts cant hit shit and have to call air strikes on goatfuckers
>>64433449>You are just a [noshoots who doesn't know shit]Fucking dam
>>64433708OOF!
I've had one since they first came out, and sorted out/made clone modifications for 3 friends' uppers. They don't really run from the factory due to barrel issues; I had to open up the headspace on 2-3, had one with a canted barrel extension so the lugs dragged, and one that wasn't getting gas. All stemming from the American made/finished barrels. One had the extension come loose several times and he sent it back to them to fix, although it was the only one of the four guns that saw a 5 digit round count. Steve Dittner at SDI fucks up everything he touches imo. Also, a lot of the Taiwanese parts from third parties like safeties and gas blocks seemed like rejects or they didn't do finishing/qc so they needed work. I don't shoot mine so idc, I only consider it a novelty gun. I don't recommend them for serious work unless you just want to be stubborn about it.
>>64436203you dead ass serious fucker
>>64436285>: IThat's that
>>64436130>>64436203Ok miloomer. You're aging and your old grandpa rifle is becoming irrelevant, yet you cling to it like the boomers before you with their precious 1911. It's an old outdated piece of shit that shoots a baby caliber. Everything is a workaround and compromise with that POS. We have advanced.
>>64434858Faxon is a shit barrel mfg I have two and they're both 4moa barrels.
>>64434926>QBZ191That's not exactly a shining endorsement anon. That thing is a fucking mess in terms of design choices.
>>64436460>We have advanced.No we haven't.
>>64436460>then>semi auto lightweight rifle that spits 5.56>now>semi auto lightweight rifle that spits 5.56, with an optic onOh let me guess, not having a light module tacked on will get you killed in the streets. You're totally shooting sub 4MOA groups and your barrel being free floated will give you "overmatch".
>>64436652Such as?To me ot seems like a very well though out improvement on the piston AR15 concept.
>>64436787Qbz-95 did it better. It at least didn’t keyhole. I say this despite it also being bullpup.
>>64436195Jesus, imagine learning how to interact with the world from a scorned bitch single mother. I'm sorry anon, come back when you can talk like a dude
>>64436460>jumping to every retarded conclusion possible complete with snarky PMS behavior Women don't belong on /k/
>>64434635No folding or collapsible stock obviously, ar-18 design is better for a piston design in an ar, plenty of versions are available.>>64434926Great for the stoner system where all forces are in line with the bore, pretty pointless once you add even a short stroke piston.
>>64437561>he fell for the keyhole memeIQ issue famalam
>>64437591>Great for the stoner system where all forces are in line with the bore, pretty pointless once you add even a short stroke pistonIt doesn't make a difference whether you accelerate the bolt directly in the middle using the bolt as a piston or by smacking the top of it. It will still weigh the same, accelerate at the same speed and into the exact same direction, ie. from the users point of view nothing changes.
>>64433395I've got 2 after they were out for maybe 8 months. A 16" and the 12.5". Both have been solid.
>>64437655The piston is a moving mass above the line of the bore, it appreciably changes the recoil impulse.
>>64438673The piston is very light weight an only moves less than an inch.A human wont notice the difference between DI and piston if they have the same bolt velocity.
>>64437568Not my fault those overpriced flimsy airsoft stocks and fore grips are only used by retards.
