I can pick up a discounted Fallkniven F1 in VG-10 / VG-WOLF for ~150 USD (130 EUR)

But would have to get someone to bring it over

Alternatively, F1 or H1 in Elmax which can be bought locally for 190 EUR

What's a better long-term knife?
>>
>>64433546
It doesn't matter. Whichever one you think looks cooler

Don't get ripped off. You can get high quality super steel knives for that much or less. And if you're asking about long-term durability, you absolutely want supersteel. Picrel is my personal favorite (excellent ergonomics) and will probably be like $130 when black friday rolls around
>>
Never spend more than $30 on a knife. In theory I could buy 5 knives when the first 4 break, but I've yet to break the first one.
>>
>>64433912
I agree for the most part, but I think you should also have one highly durable knife long-term. Something that can be relied on when your $15 mora fails

Hmm... M390 is okay, then?

>>64433912

I already have several cheap knives including a Mora
As >>64433946 I want 1 "good, won't break" knife.
>>
>>64433546
I would avoid a VG10 at that price.
I have a VG10 santoku and it chips pretty easily and doesn't keep an edge super well either.

>>64434233
M390 gets into that territory where it's sorta pain to sharpen imo.
>>
>>64433546
Youre a /k/faggot so just get a MoraKniv. Theyre 20$, stainless steel, and are the best quality anyone can (honestly) recommend you get. If you dont want one of those shoot for a full-tang carbon-coated 1095 scandi-grind flat-grind drop-point in the 60 to 100$ range from a reputable manufacturer. There is no real reason to spend 150$ on a knife thoughie even if it is some larpsteel.

I have a diamond/ceramic sharpener, should be fine then?
>>
>>64433546
Dutch Bushcraft boys liked the H1, I thought it would make a good hunting and survival knife. You appear to be a europoor, I really like Brisa knives, although the handiwork isn’t top tier. Perfectly good knives though.
>>
Question about multi tools, are the Leatherman MUT worth getting?
In Australia it retails for over $500.
I’m considering the Gerber MT600 or Leatherman Supertool 300 EOD, or some other Leatherman.
Will need to be useable whilst wearing rigger gloves
>>
There is also Joker, I always forget about them.

Expensive knives are for chumps.

SRKC in SK5

Any Ganzo. My decade old G704 knives still work great.
>>
>>64434506
Leatherman quality sucks donkey balls, their warranty is their saving grace but good luck with that in Australia.

>>64433546
Go for Elmax. It's a better steel.

>f1 or h1
I have both. I prefer the F1 massively.
>sheathe is just way better, they're both shit plastic things but the F1 'safety' mechanism is foolproof and easy to operate, buttons suck
>h1 is a fatty fat blade for no reason, it's not a prybar that bullshit offers no benefit and would snap if you tried anyway
>handle shape and for feels more secure on f1 imo, this is up to personal preference
>>64434506
>Question about multi tools, are the Leatherman MUT worth getting?
Do you have an AR-15? We already know the answer is no.

I have one and it's great but I want something with a little more heft to it. This mossy oak ticks the right boxes but I don't trust the chinesium steel to hold up well

Been playing through the Metro games. How viable is a trench knife as an edc?
>>
Don't be dumb, this is only $20.
Why waste your money when you can have Chinese supremacy.

It will probably last just as long as anything else and you won't be afraid to use it.

Catch 22. Once you learn to sharpen your shit knives so they are usable, you then want a good knife with edge retention and toughness.

But if you don't use your shit knives enough to need to learn how to sharpen them it doesn't really fucking matter.
>>
I want a Peltonen M07 so fucking bad but there's literally no reason for me to get one when I have a mora classic and an SRK-C already

MUT is specific to rifle maintenance, it's some gimmicky shit.
Get a surge, you can't go wrong with that.
>>
>>64437177
I have a handful of Peltonens. They are finished to a higher quality than Terava knives. The sheaths aren’t as good. I highly recommend getting one or four.

>paying more than $50 for a knife
>pay $400 because consumerism
>tip still break and blunt the first use
>blade still chips in the middle
>still break after 10 unnecessary youtube ~~~battony ~shop chops~

for long term?
>full tang
>steel (carbon) easy to grind wherever you are
>better steel if you got grind tools at home
>drop point or scandi grind for multi use
>blade the length of palm
>small skinners for skinning
>sheath with good retention made of leather with drainage hole
>dry and oil it after contact with saltwater
>if you don't have oil at hand, boil birch bark

if you don't like mora (rec: gerber & companion), get BPS knives or Savotta. or puukko for fun larp
source: 100% white swede in the woods

>>64434506
leatherman quality has gone downhill and the prices goes up. but if you need one, go MUT for military usage. surge and p4 for everything else

Does Savotta even make knives?

Mora Garberg and Skrama*.

vg10 is an ancient meme steel that has far outlived its shelf life. it also weirdly seems immune to ever getting reasonably cheaper despite being outdated and overrated. elmax out performs it in literally every category.
>>
>>64434318
VG10 has large carbides so it's not great for super thin grinds, when it's used properly (higher angles) it's great but if you're trying to make a laser out of it it's going to be chip happy
>>
>>64438161
If this thread is still up tomorrow I’ll try to get a few together. I haven’t put any to hard use yet, I was all in on Terava beforehand.

I'm trying to decide between those and could use a comparison pic if you wouldn't mind

I wasn't interested until I realized the peltonen isn't a stick tang like I thought
>>
>>64441204
I’ll take some when I get home. Off the bat, Terava has the better sheath options. I’ll take the handle of the Terava, but it’s pretty close. Peltonen is perfect, the company that makes the Teravas couldn’t make an even grind if their lives depended on it. My recollection is that the Peltonen is more slicey, Terava is thicker, but I’ll have to check that. The two smaller Terava knives are goated in pocket carry with the plastic sheath and wire belt clip.

Get both.

A Cattaraugus 225Q is the obvious correct answer. Works as a knife, prybar and hammer all in one. It has lasted 80 years so far, what's another 80
