Do soldiers ever get into fights with no one? Like maybe the enemy has snuck away 10 minutes ago but the other side keeps firing not realising they've gone?
a lot of trees, rocks, and other terrain features can look exactly like a dude with a gun. so yeah, dudes get really jumping and start shooting at nothing. one term for it is >ghostbusting
>>64434184A common thing, actually.
>>64434184Only ziggers could be that retarded. Actual western forces like the UK tend to have much longer infantry training regiments and enforce at least a standard of professionalism.
>>64434184Most combat ends with one side slinking off to fight another day.

Taliban would pay villagers to sit in the mountains, fire a couple shots when the see Americans, and run away. The Americans used to respond with all sorts of fire, but they realized the receiving fire was ineffective so they would kinda ignore it.
>>64434198>.t neverserved >.t neverwatchedcombatfootage
>>64434184Yyyyyyep. Soldiers know they're probably suppressing a rock but it's way better to waste ammo than waste lives.
>>64434201>CottageI came to post that
>>64434184>Like maybe the enemy has snuck away 10 minutes ago but the other side keeps firing not realising they've gone?Happens all the time. People won't call cease fire until they're 100% sure the enemy is gone and if you watch combat footage you can tell when it's happening because you'll hear lingering sporadic pop shots.Even in training it's pretty common.
>>64434184Does the term buck fever ring a bell? And deer don't even give you a reason to want to keep shooting. This thread made me realize that most people don't spend any amount of time outside.
>>64434210single shot freddy
>>64434190>a lot of trees, rocks, and other terrain features can look exactly like a dude with a gun. so yeah, dudes get really jumping and start shooting at nothing. one term for it is>>ghostbustingOpening fire on an unidentified target without contact is a massive no in most militaries unless it's cleared by your NCO. You won't even have a round in the chamber unless you are ordered to. Being a solder is not vidya.
>>64435003>People won't call cease fire until they're 100% sure the enemy is goneSure but that is after establishing it is a contact and engaging not some fucking tard opening up on a goat and telling the world where the patrol is or wasting some friendly by accident. Unl;ess you are odered you don't open up on a 'something' unless shit has alreday done hot. It is not fucking airsoft or painball, it is a job where you shut the fuck up and do as you are told and trained and that does not include putting one in the chamber and having a pop on your ow recognissance on patrol because you drank too much caffine. You only get to return fire genrally when fired apon as a contact anpor ambush drill nd when you have a contact on range and location. Otherwise you wait until you are told. You donn;t go on patrol and take pot shots at whatever takes your fancy.
>>64434184Absolutely. Which is not as bad as when they accidentally get into fights with friendlies.
>>64434198actual civilian retard spotted kek
if it happens in arma it happens irl
>>64435187Dude, I get buck fever in Video Games. They've got no excuse.
>>64434198Uh...no. Western infantry is told to shoot more because their lives are more valuable than their ammo.
>>64435216Just because you were policing in a designated combat zone. it doesn't make it the same as combat. React to contact drills look a lot like when they first see the predator.>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK1B9b_0Z2Y
>>64434198"Better safe than sorry" is as professional as you can get when it comes to valuing the life of your soldiers. Which is obviously not the case with Rusniggers.
>>64435197>Opening fire on an unidentified target without contact is a massive no in most militaries unless it's cleared by your NCOif grunts didn't constantly do stupid shit we wouldn't need NCOs in the first place
>>64435590If NCOs didnt exist the grunts would actually get out there and kill everything that moves, which is how real wars get ended.
>>64435640Great plan if the grunts themselves weren't things that move.
>>64435197ROE isn't static, just because those were the rules for the US in the GWOT doesn't mean those are the rules for the US in Vietnam or the Russians in Ukraine.
>>64434184In many wars, the majority of engagements end this way, actually.
>>64434199>>64436727This. Recognizing when the situation isn't going to get better and it's time to be somewhere else is a foundational soldier survival skill.
>>64434184Yeah, in fact no one has ever gotten into a fight with other humans. Casualties in war are almost entirely caused by defective ordinance detonating delayed, and benefits fraud.
>>64434201>karansebesyes this battle, that may never even happened btw, from 250 year ago and doesnt even answer opa question is very relevant
>>64434184>ND>"200metres, my Front, 2 Enemy moving left to right">rest of the platoon lays down covering fire, GPMG lights up, a couple of your mates who saw you ND call that they have "SEEN" themHappens a lot
>>64434198Anon, the US chairborne and army once got into a firefight in Panama because they could not comprehend that gunfire might come from a vertical direction.
>>64435640>If NCOs didnt exist the grunts would actually get out there and kill everything that moves, which is how real wars turn into unwinnable shitfests.
>>64434201https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogger_Bank_incident
>>64434184All the time actually. Sometimes it degenerates into friendly fire.
>>64434184Welcome to the real world.
>>64435640>
>>64434198this is a /int/ falseflag post btw
>>64434201>Karánsebes100% apocryphal>>64436769>yes this battle, that may never even happened btwIt didn't happen. >>64434210That UCP is damn near perfect in that environment.
>>64434184I would go so far as to say this is the rule rather than the exception for most infantry engagements. Maybe it will become less common as overhead drones become more ubiquitous because 1) they can better determine whether someone is actually there, and 2) you'd rather be hiding instead of shooting when you could catch an FPV to the face. From the people I know still alive in Ukraine, now the main tactic is for Russian infiltration groups find contact and then call in a drone swarm. As a result, most defending units just report the contact rather than engage. When I was there, the only thing you really had to worry about was artillery. Quite frankly the Russian artillery was the king of shooting at nothing. When they were probing us, we'd usually get a contact, shoot it out for a few minutes until they left then fuck off ourselves because it was nearly guaranteed that position was going to be hit in the next one to six hours. It was crazy predictable. You also knew the only time they were seriously trying to push was when the shells started falling BEFORE the infantry showed up. Scary times.
Anyone have that tiktok of chenchens shooting two kalashnikovs akimbo into a forest
