I need to enter some more competitions and do some more training because I can say for myself as it does come down to personal preference, but there are some people who claim even a red dot + magnifier is not quite as good at longer distance shooting as an optic such as an LPVO. Can't comment on Elcan obviously.

What exactly is broken on it?
M1 carbine front sights have a pin you tap out from one side, then you can use a M1 carbine front sight puller from fulton armory to pull the sight off. Under the sight will be a little key you can pull as well. You can grab a whole sight assembly off fulton or ebay for fairly cheap and its pretty tard proof.
if the front sight is wiggling its likely the key peened out and you can simply punch pin and tap the sight off with a hammer.

For point targets? Meh, not unusable but not impressive. You're not losing the eyebox or anything but because the gun itself is moving around a good bit the rifle/FOV is likely to walk around a bit more than you want.
For area targets/Suppression? Its absolutely killer. Proper pressure and loading of the gun and you can basically make the gun steer itself across an area in a burst and quickly walk across a poorly spaced gaggle of idiots.

Shooting the elcan on the HK21 is pretty stellar. I wouldnt want a tight LPVO on auto.
>Piggybacked
Mostly for passive aiming at night without having to use tracers imho. I like elcan so much on beltfeds because you can maintain that constant cheekweld on 1x.

Depends what you want to do with the auto tbqh.
Machinegun of any form (IAR, LMG, MMG, GPMG, etc) - I dont think piggyback matters all that much, its nice to have but im not dying to make the gun any heavier. It for sure gains credence if you know you wont be using tracers.
Full auto carbine - sort of who cares youre should not be using auto that often/at all. Youre far more likely to use that piggybacked dot in semi.
>>64438786
Idk if you've ever used the 1.5x on the elcan but it very much feels like a 1.5x. The 1x is very flat and generous in its eyebox and feels much closer to a red dot. 1.5/6 is probably the play if you know the gun will be used mostly on tripod and sometimes bipod. 1/4 vastly superior for shouldered, bipod and improvised work ime.

>Full auto carbine - sort of who cares youre should not be using auto that often/at all. Youre far more likely to use that piggybacked dot in semi.
Based off everything you've said the exceedingly rare times you'd use full auto with a carbine would be cqc AHHH WHAT THE FUCK situations where you probably aren't aiming at all, and area suppression in widdle bursts. Neither of these scenarios benefit much from the piggyback dot. That all sound more or less accurate?

Really not a fan of auto use on carbines, so trying to evaluate the utility of a red dot in that situation sort of a moot point. Id rather use an elcan/acog + semi auto to hammer something for suppression and maybe get lucky to take a limited presentation shot that might earn me the terminal effect shot im looking for. In a structure im not using auto because its a waste of key time to go 180 degrees and the dude is being gangbanged by minimum 2, ideally N+1 guns so spraying them with an extra 5 rounds doesnt accomplish much.
>>64438898

NTA but but my CCW is a glock47 so yuh I prob shoot dat bih more than my packa punch ARP.
Typical range sesh for me is do whatever I’m doing with pistol then do it with rifle for 3-6 mags depending on time.
But this time of year I do get a lot more AR trigger time in because the nights shoots are predominately structured around rifle use with some pistol usage being incorporated, just not as much.
Pistol work also tends to translate over to rifle work not 1:1 but pretty high whereas rifle work doesn’t rifle transfer to pistol at all, or at most, minimally.
9mm is also almost half as much as.223

I'm basing what I said off the different combat footage of messy cqb from various contemporary conflicts. Ukraine has been a nice trove of this, even outside trench warfare plenty of door to door combat footage as well.

In some of this contexts, in particular situations, the force multiplier of auto had value. I agree in most situations semiauto fine. But auto on carbines has always been a contingency-use case and why it continues to exist on modern infantry rifles.

The ability to break contact or power through a corner as a pointman and some other quick clearing where a grenade either wasn't an option or suboptimal for another reason. (One particular one iirc there was an injured guy they were trying to get out in one part of the room, and a holed guy in another part.) The bodycam guy autoed the holed in guy through the window with a quick burst that disabled him and the other guys went through the room to fully kill him.

Just another tool in the toolkit, right?

Cant just throw this around willynilly.
Can you articulate how it actually multiplies the forces in a room? Just dumping rounds doesnt really guarantee you anything in a situation where time is critical.
>Overseas anecdotes
You have no ballistic walls, you are a crude mockery of natures perfection. Your prespray will be met with rounds through the doorframe into you and the rest of your team stackedup. The overshoot you create will hit other people in the structure who didnt need to be shot at. Let alone the potential of you prespraying your own team because the room was actually a jack and jill bathroom and you cant PID with your cornerspray horseshit.

Since they're in a similar price range, LMT or LWRC for a piston upper? I've seen more negative posts about LWRC than LMT, but also more good about LWRC than LMT. Not a fan of their rails though.

>>
>>64440478
That's too much, man. You can get a complete H&R M4 clone with a chrome lined barrel for around that price.
>>
>>64440641
LWRC has better quality control but worse rail and barrel profiles. Also not chrome lined. Out of the two I'd pick an LWRC.
>>
>>64440641
https://www.lwrci.com/ICMKII-_p_500.html

The new IC MKII's are pretty sick actually, monoforge mlok upper and easy access adjustable gas block. The only downside is again they're not going to be chrome lined and the barrel is machined and fluted down from an HBAR profile because of gay maryland gun laws.
>>
>>64440799
>>64440807
Oh that's kinda gay. Does LWRC use proprietary barrels like LMT, or can I just swap a new one in? Honestly I doubt it matters to me either way im not really anal about getting sub MOA groups. I'm only interested in a piston upper for IAR use
>>
>>64440902
Huh? They are sub moa. Chrome lining makes the bore more durable to heat cycling and corrosion. They're still cold hammer forged though. And yes, both have proprietary barrels.
>>
>>64440478
Too much if no optic

I can't move fast in gym shorts and a t-shirt but it's not fun carrying a decked out plate carrier with level 4 plates and 6 mags above center of gravity. Add in a helmet and a slam pig rifle and the hot spots start piling on.
I'm not saying it isn't do-able since I do it often, I'm just saying it's no bueno and I can't imagine being some 18 year old lanklet rucking 100 pounds of gear in Iraq when it's 120 degrees or Afghanistan when its also 100 degrees but up a mountain.
As far as the going fast thing, get good at actually shooting first. Plus these niggas have never done any kind of maneuvering before so go fast where and how?
All that being said, a minimalist plate carrier does make sense in conjunction with a suspenders and belt set up since it moves the vast majority of the sustainment to the waistline. That's a setup I would like to try at some point.
