cozy keeps and tiny castles

>tfw you will never have a cozy keep, a brave hound, a noble steed, a trusty sword and harness, and a fair maiden
>>64443080>>64443082>>64443085will anyone ever make new cozy castle images? it makes me sad that i see these same ones posted in every thread, year after year.
>>64443080>>64443082>>64443085Cozy keeps and tiny castles need teeny tiny little cat daughters for upkeep
>>64443096it gets closer to completion
>Hey, Henry's come to visit us!
>>64443108Wouldn't call it a small castle, but yeah the project is really cool. Are they planning on whitewashing the exterior?
>>64443091>you will never have a cozy keepA bunker with 12-inch-thick reinforced-concrete walls is perfecly code-compliant.
>>64443096
>>64443127how do you build it with nobody knowing about it?
>>64443112they're all basically just walled manor houses
>you will never defend your castle from waves of attackerswhy even live
>>64443158Defending a siege in Bannerlord is fun
>>64443407motte and bailey noice
>>64443141>how do you build it with nobody knowing about it?Why does that matter?
>>64443916well when shtf the contractors might remember that time they built a fortified bunker
>>64443080Yeah how is this going to deter sappers? Fucking retard.
>>64444104Who said anything about a fortified bunker? This is just an ordinary ICF home with the concrete core bumped up to 10" for increased thermal mass and sound insulation. If you're particularly paranoid, project manage the build yourself to ensure there's no contact between the guys doing the concrete pour and the contractors installing the reinforced doors or whatever other schizo additions you choose.
>>64444324Star forts always make me want to play Minecraft again to build one.
>>64443080What's the point of tiny castles like this? It's not like you can have a full garrison there, who would even bother assaulting something so insignificant?
The shore is full of reefs, so landing operations would be difficult. I'd also like it to function as a lighthouse.
>>64444334Probably part of a chain of sentinels
>>64444334Would you rather live there or in an undefendable house?
>>64444367Well I'd rather live in a comfortable manor. I just don't get the use case of a tiny castle like that. How many armed people do you think live there? What can a handful of people defend against exactly?
>>64443080They are sellinf a Castle near were i live and im gonna try to buy It.What should i do with It if i manager in aquiring it
>>64444334Can fit enough men to see off a ship full of Vikings.
>>64444208>>64444334Pure speculation on my part here, and I'm only addressing the OP pic.To me it looks like a settlement hard point; not a place to garrison troops. It's where you go to when you run away from the raiders. The bad guys get your cows and sheep and whatever material goods you left behind in your house they want to take. But you keep your women and children and your life because you are inside a location that's too much of a bother to penetrate.
>>64444334>>64444424You gotta remember that most keeps like this were never meant to stop armies of kings leading tens of thousands of troops , but to make keep you, a minor noble, your immediate family, frirnds and few houseservants safe from a sudden attack by a roving bad of dozen brigants who stalk the woods. For that purpose, it's more than enough

>>64443141>how do you build it with nobody knowing about it?Discreetly.
>>64444104There's actually very few companies building decent homes in America. Theyre usually companies offering flood/forest fire survival as a selling point so your house would just be one of many. Some also specialize in defensive structures but that's usually super high end homes and those in third world countries. Regardless, the local wetbacks aren't going to be involved in the build and the people that DO know are successful in their field and would have dozens of homes to choose from. You also probably can't afford it anyway.
>>64443108When do we siege it?
>>64444781>Fort la Latte, France>Flies a white flag
The game is Tiny Glade.
>>64444802If you zoom in you can see it's not a plain white flag, it has little spots. Because it's pic related
>>64443080>>64443096There just aren't that many small castles. But there are some hidden gems like pic rel - Burg Wildenstein, which is a spur castle that has practically been unchanged since 1554. The only way in is via a single bridge.>>64444208It won't. But a castle of this size (as in the OP) isn't designed to keep large armies at bay. It's more so a defense against raiders.
>>64445685Another angle of Burg Wildenstein where the bridge is easier to see.

Does anyone have any Spanish or Portuguese forts or castles?I've always loved their colonial aesthetic
I've posted these a couple times before. A distant relative received them from the Hapsbergs when she married a half-brother of Franz Ferdinand (which resulted in him getting kicked out of the family for marrying a commoner). He died a year into their marriage and she returned the properties in her old age, finding them too much to take care of for an old widow.
>>64446214The other one. Neither really count as castles, per se, but I think they fit the theme of tiny cozy fortified manors.
>>64444861NiceMade a reconstruction of a ruined medieval castle in Estonia
Harry Avery’s castle, Northern Ireland. The Lord of the castle was apparently a very friendly man known for his generous hospitality with guests
Dunluce Castle
I recently picked up this book, very related
>>64444334its the fortified home of a minor lord or knight, enfiefed by a baron or other higher lord whose lands would be dotted with these men sworn to fight for him in exchange
>>64444334aside from their use as a point of shelter in case or a raid or a hostile army passing by that other annons have already pointed out.they are first and foremost a social thing, a declaration of status. to those under you it is a very real set in stone way of showing you are better than them, you are richer than them and that they can't do shit against you because once you close your gate they aren't getting in. to your peers having a castle of any sort means you are in the club. sure you might be a bottom feeder compared to the big guys but at least you are in the same club as them.militarily you can in a pinch squeeze in half a dozen horses and two dozen men at arms.that means that you can harass forage parties intercept communications ect. you can be annoying an invader now has to chose how it's going to deal with that annoyance. you can ignore it and accept that you are going to lose some smaller forage partiesyou can send a detachment of men to put it under siege just to bottle them up you can try to offer them terms or to bribe themyou can try and take the castle ect. ect. all of those cost you something, men, resources, attention, time, money and along your route of march to where you want to go because it is important there will be half a dozen or more of these. once you get where you want to go there will be half a dozen around that to that you are going to have to deal witheveryone of them requiring a decision and imposing a cost it's guerrilla tactics avant la lettre
>>64443080>>64443091>tfw you will never have a cozy keepyou REALLY don't want onemy family owns a small castle in southern Germanyit's basically a ruin with like 10 usable roomsa restored barn is rented out to a cafe/restaurantbut the fucking upkeepyou have mandatory! restorations by lawmy dad basically spends all his vacation time (and probably all his money) on thisas kids it was awesomebut nowthere's always something breakingand you need to replace broken things with "period accurate" crafted replicaslike one day one of the main doors of the great hall breakand you wonder, how much can fucking hinges costuntil a specialized blacksmith quotes you 7000€ for 6 small metal pieces
>>64448129>you have mandatory! restorations by lawGood.
>>64448171i'm not complaining against the lawmy dad loves the castle and would restore everything anywaythe laws here actually somewhat help because there are some (minor) grants and tax breaks because it's mandatoryit's just a warning to anyone thinking of buying oneexpensive maintenance you can't just opt out of...
