For like 20 years, they've been run by the guy who ran Kimber into the ground. Though its worth noting San Swiss arms is practically a zombie company, just kept alive by its Swiss army and euro police contracts. They remind me of Steyr in the sense that there is zero innovation on old designs, the only new parts they produce are those designed by SIG USA, like MCX stocks retrofitted to 552s or the 553R. Everything else is the same shit from the 90s, which I get is desirable to some civilians but is simply not competitive in the modern market. Thats not to say they're bad or have the same sketchy behaviour or QC issues as Sig USA, but they've got their own problems and if the Swiss army goes through with buying LMT ARs like they've said they will, I don't think San Swiss will exist in a decade.

The P220 I have doesn't feel materially different than older P226s I have handled, its literally the same only shittier since single stack.The Sig 550 was once the best assault rifle ever made, but A, its not worth $10k+ US collectors market prices, and B, the AR15 aftermarket has eclipsed the Sig 55x so much, its really not worth paying 5x considering the MSRP in switzerland is about 4000 USD (same as their import price).I think the biggest thing the 550 series still has going for it compared to an AR is the integrated bipod on the 550, which folds away really nicely and flush with the bottom of the handguard to not be cumbersome while holding the handguard with it folded, and the fact that they have folding stocks, which makes a bigger difference on a 553 since you can effectively halve the length of the gun when you fold it.
