Why don't Firsties/the more established air forces put their Flag on the vertical stabs? It's usually just a tail number plus maybe a squadron marking or a special emblem. If they do have a flag then it's very small and lowkey. On the other hand Thirdies don't seem to bother with squadron markings etc, they just put a massive flag on rear stab and desu I always found it ugly. What's up with that?ps. I know the reason why the RAF abandoned the union jack in ww1 and started using Fin flashes. I also put India in the thirdie category because they're the most thirdie country in the world, they cargo culted the British markings without thinking and their version is way bigger than the lowkey RAF fin flash in picrel
what kind of autism is that?

>>64446247I seem to think there was a brief period where we put a small-ish Union Jack on the vertical tail of transport and tanker aircraft. I thought we still did but they all seem to have the low-vis fin flash, but there's a colour Union Jack near the forward door.Unrelated but Air Superiority Grey/low-viz markings are so fucking boring.
>>64449389The USAF puts their flag on Cargo plane tails afaik
>>64450088>>64450088>He's right
>>64446296Fucking hell, it's 3 paragraphs of 1-2 sentences each, anon.
>>64450091why don't they put flags on combat aircraft?
>>64446247Its probably a few factors>Uniqueness of the roundel>Relevance of the respective air forceBoth of these have to do with early adoption of military aviation which most firsties did.As to the first point most thirdie countries just adopt the 3 color roundel and slap their own flavor on it. Syria and Egypt for example just have identical roundels with absolutely no distinction between them. To contrast this, early adopters of the 3 color like the UK and France are just so iconic that they don't need to be distinguished in any way.For the second point, early adopters of military aviation usually have very storied and decorated squadrons to the point where individual squadrons markings are more identifiable than an entire country's roundel. Libya, Pakistan, Ethiopia, and to a lesser extent India all have unique roundels or colorings, but they are such absolute who nobodies that even if you see their roundels you wouldn't know what country they correspond to.Basically if a country is putting a squadron marking on their tails, it means that they don't need to tell you shit because you already know who the fuck they are which is why only firsties do it.
>>64451050I do love the way that the RCAF, RAAF and RNZAF roundels make the roundel their own rather than just colour swapping it. Ukraine's going two-tone instead of three also makes it stand out a bit. I'm also kind of surprised that there aren't more copying the USAF style, the USAAF was using a pretty similar one by WW2.
>>64451322it's because most are ex british or french colonies so they copy the RAF styles. There are more unique ones than I originally thought
>>64451322RAAF roundels are so dope. It's literally a kangaroo.
>>64451050I decided to run it through Bing AI and it told me something along the same lines of Firstie cunts have more storied squadrons that have actual heritage and stronger brand recognition and esprit de corps. At the same time thridie cunts usually have weaker institutions and use the combat aircraft as political propaganda tools like "Look, we have fighter jets, we're a big deal" and the weaker institutions means basically no esprit de corps
>>64446247I agree, I don't like ours.Crap hole countries are very proud of their expensive planes so they'll stick a flag on there, always.Bonus in pic, flying coffin in the background, finally retired last year.
>>64446247the italian one is fun. a /k/ot playing with mice
>>64455017Nah, coming from a country with a firstie airforce, Croatia gets a pass with the checkered flashes. The 191st Knight Emblem is kino too.
