Maybe im just retarded, but i do not understand the appeal of p320, p365, APX, RXM etc FCU's. Why not just get multiple pistols suited to the needs you want? You end up spending the cost of multiple pistols (or more) with all the frames and complete slides and shit anyway, and you only have "one" pistol at a time you cant just HAVE them all at the same time. The only benefit i can see is the same trigger feel across the board i suppose, but that hardly seems worth it
>>64449245>I don't get over hyped marketing gimmicks for shit few people actually need function wiseCongrats on having at least one functional brain cell OP. A bodyguard 2.0 or Kel-tec P32 is all you need for CCW'ing and the world is your oyster in regards to whatever duty sized poly 9 you prefer and or can afford. Also moor guns = more fun.
>>64449245It makes sense if you live in a place where the process to legally purchase a firearm is difficult/expensive or you have a limit of how many you can own, because the same FCU can be reconfigured for different calibers and sizes. You do one set of paperwork and it is now a modular weapon system that can do a lot of different things, rather than just one gun. Even if the cost of the remaining parts is normally around the cost of a standalone pistol the savings in red tape can be valuable. This idea falls apart because.>Most people who buy these live in America so there's no limit on how many handguns they can own.>A 4473 and FFL transfer fee/background check isn't that hard to fill out or expensive.>All the places that are super restricted in this way are going after parts and barrels anyway, so side stepping the red tape only works until they write a law to add more.>Having to strip and reconfigure the pistol isn't as convenient as just having another one is.In all fairness this is an answer to a question that a lot of people did have. Modular rifles and pistols always had a lot of appeal on paper, but the reality is quite lackluster. It just isn't economically or practically convenient to utilize to it's full potential. People like the option to do it so it works as a gimmick, but it really ends up being little more than that for most people who buy in.
>>64449245There are a lot of places that don't let you own a lot of guns and it lets the aftermarket much more easily make significant changes to your existing pistol without making you buy a new one. Aftermarket grips are great and FCUs massively simplify that.
>>64449478I'm convinced modularity is a false good. Everyone keeps trying to pitch rifles built from the ground up to be modular and accept 3 or 4 different cartridges but they all flop. Everyone sees the ARs modularity and thinks that's the secret sauce when it isn't, all that modularity naturally evolved to solve various deficiencies with the original M16. Stoner probably never had any idea or intention for the M16 to later get 30 and 45 caliber conversions, nor did he plan for any of the stock and buffer options that would eventually evolve
Most gun owners don't shoot often enough to justify a Fire Control Unit. Most shooters don't change calibers often enough to justify one either.
>>64449478>It makes sense if you live in a place where the process to legally purchase a firearm is difficult/expensive or you have a limit of how many you can ownOkay, fair enough for weird Euro or LatinX countries laws... BUT why did the American MIC give a shit about that gimmick? The only thing that really mattered was putting a light rail on the hand guns honestly and maybe giving soldiers holsters that weren't beat to shit from the Vietnam war. MIC could have just made a public announcement that they'd be buying M&P's an called it a day.

Who cares if Sarg grunt McFuckFace takes his issued old rattling M9 home? They're mass produced and sold in bulk AND we've got a little thing called the Second Amendment anyway. So long as they don't go committing crimes with it afterwards I certainly don't care.

>>64449885I think the military found the idea of it being modular appealing, but the FCU system wasn't a priority. Glock's M17 candidate didn't have it.Actually reconfiguring a gun isn't that important, but it does allow for easy servicing by an armorer. It would help if the M17 wasn't a horribly made turd that Sig wildly underbid on though.>>64449907I don't know if you met a lot of the people in our military today, but stolen handguns getting picked up at crime scenes would absolutely be a huge problem if they didn't have the oppressive levels of inventory control that they do. We don't have a lot of Ivy League potential enlisting, but hood rats and trailer trash are a common sight.
