Apparently glass bedding M1As in my area is a lost arcane art. Every gunsmith I've called who advertise bedding say they can do it only for bolt actions and that M1s are too complicated. I guess I'll be getting an EBR chassis instead of a McMillan stock if I replace the wood.

That is a retarded excuse. There is a great M1A specific tutorial by gunblue490 on youtube though, if you're game for it. I've found synth GI stocks fit well enough you don't really need to do shit to them unless you're chasing sub MOA.
>>
>>64450325
Yeah it sounds like bullshit to me. I'll check out the tutorial, the juice might not be worth the squeeze if I have to buy a lot of tools though. My wood stock is already treated with epoxy and bedded, I just don't want to have to worry about babying it for scratches. I like your camouflage btw.

Guys, I learned scar is kill last night :( what do I do now with it? Do I sell it and get whatever fn does next at shot show? I love the 17S but I don't want to pay another BR level money for parts that are drying up. I could buy a fal for the price of a bolt and barrel :( it is what it is though I guess. Maybe they'll reveal something better and more aesthetic than the mrgg and licc at shot show so I can cumsoom. I just want parts available so I can take care of my BRs bros. They all deserve virgin components that aren't stripped from a previous rifle.

Hey /brg/, I got a Springfield M1A and six mags in ALICE kit. Shit is cash money, but short of burdening myself in 60rnd 7.62 Bandoliers, what is the most handy way to carry more boolits?

Two mag pouches hold 2 mags each, plus one in the rifle and the 6th in a pant pocket; 1 canteen w/ cup and stove, and AMES E-tool. I could drop a pistol pouch and the holster, to add two more mag pouches, but I'm thinking the weight of two bandoliers at 60rnds (120) v four more mags (80) would favor clips. Plus, $49/mag is goofy price.

Korean M1 kit because aura
>>
>>64453652
Nice Korean war setup. For my M1A I use M1956 kit. I just put the extra rounds, magazines and whatever else is left in the buttpack. When I'm at the range and want more I just load up an ALICE pack
>>
>>64453652
Oh for the ALICE rig that you got, are you just standard ALICE M16 mag pouches? I was thinking about making an ALICE set up to mitigate the wear on my M1956.

I would like to find a M67 repro butt pack, the woodland ones are for a different system. It would make the belt heavier, and could inhibit an ALICE pack.

>>64453710
standard new old stock, 2000s production ALICE pouches They fit 2 standard M1a mags, 3 AR15, a stack of Garand clips, or a family size bag of M&Ms.

I recommend using this over M56 because the old canvas wears out, and the ebay chinese movie prop tier repros don't fit.
>>
is the XCR-M really worth the price tag?
>>
>>64453803
Cool. I was thinking about switching to ALICE to protect the canvas, wasn't sure about mag pouches until your response.
>>
>>64453917
It is to me, but I have no plans to buy one.

Anyone know how much it and the vest are worth? I got them both from Kommandostore 9-10 years ago and have literally never worn them. The jacket is worn, some velcro needs new stitching, and there is a soldiers initials and service number on the inside of the top flap. The vest was never issued and has a 1988 date on the tag on the map flap.
>>
>>64454453
If I was selling to a friend I'd probably part with it for around 180, but you could probably sell it for 280.
>>
>>64454464

So $280 for the jacket or is that for both as a price. Sorry for needing clarification.
>>
>>64454478
Sorry by vest did you mean the chest rig? I was referring to the battle jacket only for the 180-280 price. The chest rigs will go for around $75.

How stupid would it be to rice up my PTR to make it look like a PSG1 without going all out and getting a barrel/cocking tube swap on it? Looking at Pic related as inspiration for the build. Priced everything out, and it comes out to around $1200 in parts, and that's not even with a scope since I'm not really sure what kind of scope I'd like to put on it. For reference, I have the claw mount since my rifle doesn't have the pic rail on the receiver itself.
>>
>>64454415
I was going through some of my old gear. The LBV-88 integrated with your ALICE belt might be a good option. you can fit 4 M14 mags in it. The single mag pouch will fit one but the double (for M16 mags) is barely two small and will likewise only fit one M14 mag.
>>
>>64456986
Having looked at SVDs available on the market this is a cheaper option for a tighter grouping rifle if you want a Cold War DMR gun for your collection.
>>
is MCX SPEAR sig sells to civies and mil the same rifle down to the quality of parts?

I want to go shooting this weekend but I only have 180 rounds of .308 left. I'm going to start making an ammo bought to saved ratio. I'm thinking I'll start saving 40% of the ammo I buy. Maybe that's too aggressive of a ratio.

I'm at 100%, sadly. That is going to change ...soon.
>>
>>64461235
I only have 120 not including the 100 I'm taking to the range tomorrow, but it's good ammo and I have a few k of 5.56 so I'm not too worried. I'm going to try to keep it 1:1 from here on out.

Found in "The Closet". A 4 pouch SA or Rhodie chest pouch and a couple spare 30s. The "problem" I found here is finding gear for 30rnd mags. This faithful repro is pretty poor, but true to '50s pattern? I hope to upgrade the back straps and belt with an FHF Airframe harness. Same desire for my FLCs.

Lots of people are asset rich cash poor now due to inflation. A $100k a year job a decade ago got you a $350k house that now worth a million in today's dollars. Problem is if you sold it you wouldn't be able to pay taxes on an equivalent house with that same $100k income. Probably only went to $150k in the same time period if that. >>
>>64501051
>the M2 bipod can increase accuracy.
I speculate that the bipod will ruin barrel harmonics, as has been well established. But _will_ increase shooter proficiency by creating a more stable hold than offhand, kneeling, squatting or even prone. You should see scores come up with a bipod over these positions, but it will also degrade accuracy. Also, looks great and I have been wanting.
>6-7, hands weighing motion

Dumb question, but that would only be temporary right, like as in when it's installed?
>>

Yes
>>
>>64501174
Temporary for internal balistics. Once the bullet exits the muzzle, external balistics are factored; wind, drop, stability. Upon reaching the target (nonpaper, lol) terminal balistics are considered, penitraltion, expansion, shockwave. Permanently affects internal balistics (barrel harmonics) until dismounted. Again, typically overshadowed by the increase in platform stability.

As far as I can tell, the receiver, barrel and assembling are all done by PTR with what's likely surplus Portuguese kits. When you installed your chassis did you find that your trigger pull felt different? Mine feels stiffer, not sure if its the change of tolerances, or just the change of motion going from a traditional stock to a pistol grip. I already ordered a trigger shoe which will hopefully remedy it.
>>
>>64537118
Fun first and foremost, filling the niche of a higher caliber battle rifle I guess. If there isn't really a clear use case besides "I want one", that might be a sign that it's a waste of money right now.
>>
>>64537173
Then I'd buy the one you think looks the coolest.
>>
>>64537155
trigger pull was the same, maybe take the receiver out of the chassis and just attach the trigger group to see if its still an issue
>>
>>64537190
Yeah gonna give that a try, I also need to retorque everything today, the hex heads I needed haven't arrived yet so I think that will help. It seems to be getting smoother the more I cycle and dry fire

Gonna show my friend my FAL I've put about 500 rounds through so far, if I can get him into Battle rifles he's gonna get a G3, likely a Century because of the price.

Think one of these things can accept a collapsable stock?

Is it as stupidly front heavy as it looks?

This is a battle rifle. A SCAR I would unironically own. Oh, except for the price. And the poor color match. Were they even trying?

I don't have any evidence or experience, but I just don't believe you desu.
>>
>>64539401
its rear heavy but still weighs a shitload for what it is
>>
>>64520521
I bought 3 of these things and the bolt gap is .016" on all of them, pretty decent if you ask me.
>>
>>64539397
Jez sayin'.
>>
>>64538894
They were up until recently 3200-3400 and had been for years. We're getting a new SCAR though and fingers crossed because its more of an AR looking thing its not going to be 3000 dollars for plastic.

Collapsible G3 stocks are actually bad.

i know what front heavy is and the ebr definitely isnt. while holding it up by the handguard it tilts backwards easily
>>
>>64540175
Elaborate
>>
>>64540468
NTA but I also didn't think it was too bad, it worked decently with the aimpoint, but would have been undesirable with irons or a scope that required any amount of eye relief. On the other hand, I paid around $450 for it ca 2020, at least they're cheaper now with the MKE ones being on the market.
>>
>>64540475
Crap, and I was gonna run it with just irons
>>
>>64540578
Its not like its unbearable. I'd say its comparable to an AK with a Romanian/E. German wire folder or an underfolder. I just thought with the Aimpoint on a standard mount it was like any other dot with a riser. If I had NVGs at the time, I'd recon it would make for a good passive aiming gun.

You don't know what front heavy means. No shit if you hold something in front of its center of gravity, it will tilt back.

...so front heavy to you means something other than being heavier in the front than in the rear

If you hold anything far in front of it's center of gravity, it will want to tip backwards. A gun being front heavy means that its center of gravity farther forward than what would be comfortable. If you don't speak english well, then stop talking.

In anycase, I've looked it up and yes, the ebr is famously retardedly front heavy. Literally all people say about it is that it's overly heavy, stupidly front heavy, and cool looking.
>>
>>64541089
and yet its still rear heavy at the exact center where you wouldnt even be holding it since thats where the magazine goes
>>
I'd say the CG on the EBR is like 2/3rds the way down it, maybe a few inches from the magazine.

You're arguing with an ESL chimpanzee who's never even heard of gravity, let alone CoG. Stop wasting your time.

the center of gravity on an ebr is the magazine well. anyone saying its front heavy is probably running a bipod which shouldnt count
