Cats have killer instincts and are the weapon. In WWI cats were often kept around trenches for companionship but also deal with rodents. This is still the case today in Ukraine. Say hi to Rupert for me, I hope he's doing well.

>anyone ever used cats in warfare
The tried. At least supposedly. There are accounts of the OSS trying to build a cat-guided bomb.
The idea was that cats hated water and would instinctively try to land on a solid surface, do they developed a bomb that could be steered by a cat to target enemy ships. The project was a complete failure and canceled early in development.
>>64450061
There's only a single source for this (Herodotus), and it ties in neatly with the overwhelming strong negative stereotypes the Greeks believed about the Egyptians. It also recounted an event that supposedly happened like a millennium before the Author lived. It's most likely bullshit.

Ship cats are also a tradition dating back to antiquity. In fact early sailors are probably how cats got proliferated all over the world.

They primarily dealt with pests, but also lifted spirits and were considered good luck because of their surprising propensity for surviving shipwrecks. It is also believed that they can keep the weather calm, which is obviously a stretch but their inner ears are very sensitive to changes in barometric pressure so they can function as a rough warning sign of falling pressures which can lead to a storm.

more civil war cat stuff
>Soldiers exhibited a remarkable protectiveness toward animals and even put their own safety at risk to keep their pets from harm. When the 150th Pennsylvania engaged in battle, the dog Jim was typically sent to the back and even tied to the axle of a wagon to prevent him from following the men into danger. In 1864 during the battle of Resaca, Federal artillerymen heard the plaintive cry of a kitten. They spotted the feline right in the line of fire. Incredibly, despite the mortal danger, one of the cannoneers leaped over the breastworks and rescued the cat. He remained with the regiment during the remainder of the war, was bequeathed the name “Resaca,” and could often be spotted perched on the shoulder of one of the artillerymen.

The record is still unclear on domestic cats, cats arguably not ever being fully domesticated.
But there's clear and undisputed evidence of dogs being kept as beloved domestic pets some 15,000 years ago (some were respectfully buried with their owners, presumably to follow them into the afterlife), they were probably domesticated as early as 30,000 or even 40,000 years ago but this is somewhat disputed.

Regardless, people most likely brought pets (dogs for certain, probably also cats) with them to war long before the concept of career soldiers even existed. Long before writing or even civilization as we'd recognize it existed.
Just isolated communities nomadic hunter-gatherer tribes. Mammoths, saber-tooth tigers, cave lions, giant ground sloths, wholly rhinos, were all still around at this point, with homo-sapiens being the last surviving species of humans since the Neanderthals would have died out a few thousand years earlier.

if nobody has mentioned the real world attempt. there was indeed studies done to see if cats, and more specifically large cats, could be trained for war and police duties. it was found that unlike a dog, one could not turn the cat's hunting and killing instinct off. thus they ended up with a large pack of man-eating large cats that would hunt everyone. thus they are blatantly too effective and the modern armies decided to continue with dogs.

also, yes cat's can be trained. the major problem is that where a dog learns doing the trick because the command was given gets them a treat (or just good boy status), the cats quickly learn that doing the trick is the cause of the treat being given. Thus, if you teach Rupert to ring a bell to get a treat, you will need to throw away all bells in your house or Rupert will hunt down that bell and proceed to smack at it until you give him his treat.

I THINK TERRORISM CAN BE SOLVED WITH A REALLY BIG MOSTLY A BOX OF METAL A LOT SO IT'S EVERY SIDE BUT ONE AND YOU NAIL IN INTO THE EARTH AND THEN PUT BOMBS IN IT I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY BUT A LOT AND ROLL IT UP TO A TERRORIST HOURSE ON THE SIDE AND SEAL IT WITH TAPE AND BLOW IT UP LIKE SHOT THE HOUSE OUT OF A CANNON SIDEWAYS.
And I think that's the best plan I can come up with on such short notice and as a side benefit it would solve racism.
What was the question?
>>
>>64450116
Putting a cat on a shield is so goddamn stupid I believe it. 500 years ago the French were lighting cats on fire for recreation it isnt that farfetched.

NTA. Yeah and let’s not forget that Rupert is 1/30th the size of OP, lol.

Agreed though, in a way. if Rupert were scaled up to the size of a tiger, and OP became comparatively small enough to be prey, everything would change.

Anyway, picrel is the ultimate killing machine. The black footed cat (binomial: felis nigripes). This furball has the distinction of the highest hunting success rate of any solitary hunter in all of Order Carnivora.

No you can't train a cat to do anything useful. Remember that spy cat that immediately ran off, hit a car and died?

Just let them do their own thing. Trench cats are important in Ukraine, nature's own budget solution to your rodent problems.
