The whole impetus of the terminator was to have an ifv that could protect columns moving in urban or narrow vertical mountain environs and engage enemies basically directly above them. Since in Afghanis and Chechens had a habit of ambushing russians from directly above and scoring horrendous damage with outdated anti tank weapons.
