>level iiia
I'll definitely wear this the next time I plan to get shot in the face with a pistol
>b-but level iv head armor is too heavy!
The only thing worse than something that's heavy and works is something less heavy that doesn't work. Might as well not bother.
>>
>>64450931
i see the breathing problem has not been fixed, yet again
>>
>>64450942
The article is wrong. Per the website it's "IIA+" - which is a made up rating between IIA and II. Looks like it omits .357 Magnum.
>>
>>64450950
Well in that case, I won't even bother wearing it when I plan to get shot in the face with a revolver.
>>
>>64450955
I'd rather wear a IIIA ballistic visor so I can wear a gas mask underneath. The only appeal of this is ballistic face protection while using NV / head thermal.

This is an idea that I can roll with. You need a respirator to survive if you are in a hazardous environment. Full-face helmets are a big compromise between protection and usability. They have limited use cases otherwise.
>>
>>64450931
that's really retarded
>>
>>64450996
I like this model better. My question is if the BFD totals the respirator. Would suck to stop a a bullet but then choke on chemical agents.
Maybe run a ballistic visor in front of the armored mask, so you have IIIA then this IIA+ neo-IIB-from-1985 rating. Some IIIA+ visors can eat 12 gauge slugs.

/gq/ was talking about this shit months ago.
The ballistic test videos are lmao-tier. The thing doesn't perform worth a damn.
>>
>>64451020
I remember this coming up when the Maxilla 5lb steel facemask did. Facemasks are basically a no-BFD tolerated area and the materials these guys are using aren't up for it.
>>
Why can’t they make one that looks cool like the ODST helmet?
>>
>>64450942
Plenty enough to catch frags.

Because it's cheaper to just make a ballistic plate that clips on than a fully enclosed helmet that provides the same protection. Alongside ODST's, regardless of the 'quality' of the game, I actually really like the more grounded Armor designs from star citizen. They're very nice.
>>
>>64451040
ODST helmet has too large a visor and we don't have the tech to economically make lightweight visors that thin which can resist common threats. Look how thick a ballistic glass visor is just to get IIIA.

Every five years a new mask comes out and they're all just a hacked up kevlar panel in a plastic shell.

Wtf is so hard about making a level III mask?
>>
>>64451645
>Wtf is so hard about making a level III mask
making it light and low profile enough to be worth using, otherwise it is just dead weight.

The fact that it is optimized for facing bullets instead of frag already makes it unoptimal for widespread service.

once we get some better, non-volatile battery tech it will definitely happen.

Imagine something like the bin laden raid but with a bunch of roided power-armor wearing seals.

there is no need for better battery tech, we have fuel cells right now
can also use batteries, you would have a dedicated APC mod for your power armor squads that carries a generator and a big powerbank
some of the work has already been done in support of ground based tactical laser systems

But these are meme masks that are already not worth using in a military context.

We have helmets supported by passive exoskeletons these days, you know. I use a 15lbs helmet that can stop a 50cal fired point blank and my neck isn't strained at all.

much higher power densities are required. Sooner or later troops will walk around with issued battery packs to charge supplementary electronic systems or even exoskeletons.

that rig takes the gravitational load just fine but your muscles and bones will still be strained dealing with rotational inertia, in both getting the thing turning and stopping it from turning
good luck

>>
>>64451645
Level III polyethylene is an inch thick and the mask will weigh around 1.5lb assuming it's SB301 or another nice PE in play. Level III steel will make a mask much thinner but far heavier. 5lb at least. Ceramic-composite using a PE backing is the best choice but a boron carbide mask will be hilariously expensive. Could very well handle M855A1 if designed to it.
I think people should stick to visors. Continue development into transparent ceramics if you need them to eat rifle rounds. If you need to use NV make sure the visor mount can pivot down enough. Your cheek weld is gonna be fucked but if you need this shit that's not your concern anymore.
>>
>>64452282
Shame that muscles, bones and tendons can't grow stronger with consistent loading. If we were biologically capable of that we could probably use something like training to adapt to it.

You can train around the weight of plate armor too, techbro, but what's important is that passive exoskeletons can create new issues for wearers if you put a large enough sprung weight on them.
>>
>>64454401
I got strong enough to run around with my shitty steel training plates in basic. Have you considered that you're just genetic run off and lack the ability to build sufficient muscle?
>>
>>64454401
Up to a point. Sure, the average redditor two years ago bought a pair of 8lb RMA 1155s and couldn't make it up the stairs with them on in a slick carrier, but there comes a point where sheer weight overcomes pure endurance. Natick did studies on this.
>>
>>64454412
steel training plates? What country?
>>
>>64454450
ADF we use overweight training plates, about 15kg for front and back combined. Now before you start some jingoistic faggotry remember that I could do this, and if you can't then you're genetic run off.
>>
>>64454499
My carrier holds 18 mags (TT vest with 2x Condor MA33s) - I get the feeling. Mile time gearless is 6:03. Not great but I'm working on it. The whole three mag SRT plate redditmeta is because people that got exemptions from PT in grade school are preppers now and no exercise for twenty years is catching up to them.
Mind posting some of your fitness tips?
>>
>>64454577
Be 18, eat at the mess, drink protein and creatine.

I have no clue why you would need 18 magazine on a vest. Get belt webbing if you're going to carrying a bricks worth of rifle rounds.

If you have that much shit hanging off your front you're going to be half a metre off the ground when you go prone, and unable to properly remove your magazines anyway.

Maybe get some friends and pretend to survive the apocalypse together so you can have someone cover you instead of being a one man ammo dump.
