I had no idea that LRASMs and AIM-174bs were that big. No wonder they can't fit internally in F-35 bays.
>>
>>64452648
I dont like him, but I have to admit that Trump has a knack for producing kino. The man is responsible for an endless stream of extremely aesthetic photos and videos.
>>
>>64452668
The literal inverse of Michael Dukakis when it comes to intuition and instinct about political aesthetic.
>>
>>64452648
LRASM almost fits in the bay but is slightly too long
>>
>>64452775
>Cue raging aircraft maintainers, armorers, and internet nerds everywhere.
>>
>>64452648
So was the AIM-54 Phoenix. We had to stop using -54s because only the Tomcat could mount them.
>>
>>64452775
Why can't they make it just slightly shorter?
>>
>>64452648
ngl I think Trump can do some really retarded shit but he's king of the kino

>>64452648
The AIM-174B is about 4ft shorter than the PL-17
>>
>>64452881
I'm not even sure it is him, considering how dark it is. Especially after his stroke. He's not doing well. Anyway, back to weapons; The only benefit to internal bay is less radar return, right? I assume also longer distances due to less drag?
>>
>>64452936
why are left wing conspiracy theorists like this?
>>
The late AIM-54 was far better than the AIM-174.
>>
>>64452936
The radar return is actually a big issue. You end up with radar bouncing between the weapon and the plane, kicking the RCS to less-than-stealthy levels. The additional drag also hurts maneuverability but I'm pretty sure you'd jetison the weapons if it really came down to a maneuvering fight.
>>
>>64452962
>Left Wing
Brother, wake up.
>>
>>64452973
Why? What made it better?

>>64452976
So basically it turns a fighter into a missile hauler? Why even mount them to a fighter?
>>
>>64452981
Because we ditched the A-6 in 1997 and never replaced them
>>
>>64452981
It achieved the same or more speed with considerably less weight because it was designed for long range without a booster stage.
>>
>>64452981
Because once the missiles are launched most of the drag and RCS goes with them. I don't think the pylons auto-eject yet but the pylons themselves have minimal effect on the aircraft.

So once you're done being a missile truck you've got a passable fighter. Mind, the F-35 isn't really a fighter. The F-22 can dance rings around it.
>>
>>64453053
>pickle pylons
i have to imagine this would be something that you'd add eventually if your goal is stealth above all other concerns. not sure it'll be something we find out about until there's some harsh combat that requires it.
>>
>>64453053
The F-35 not being maneuverable is fuddlore.
>>
>>64453145
As cool as all that is, do planes even dogfight anymore? Seems like you'd be better off with extra chaff and speed to just leave.
>>
>>64453145
This. Saw the f-35B and C at the Jones Beach Airshow this year and that thing pulls AOA even better than a Super Hornet. Saying the F-35 isn't maneuverable is brainless.
>>
>>64452977
NTA, but fuck off with your reddit tier bullshit.
>>
>>64453256
I'm sorry anon. I know it hurts. Lets keep this weapons focused though.
>>
>>64453145
>>64453203
Oh I agree that the F-35 is pretty maneuverable but it could have been Much Much more maneuverable if it was a dedicated fighter. I mean, look at the F-22. The only thing holding that beast back is the need to not kill the pilot.
>>
>>64452962
Because they're female/feminized adult children that haven't cognitively developed passed high school. Once you see it, it explains virtually all spastic leftoid behavior.
>>64452977
>>64453296
The benefit of internal bays is reduced radar return in certain configurations. If the mission calls for a lot of shit underslung, then the internal bays still provide reduced RCS but minimally since the whatever's on the hardpoints will be bouncing back plenty. That's why there's stealthy underwing pods in development for F-35s and 22s, and presumably the F-47 and the F/A-XX and their Loyal Wingman drones.
Your pedestrian and shallow attempts at on-topic discussion betrays your genuine sad shtick.
>>
>>64453493
This hurts a lot more

>>64453456
Oh yeah, for a multirole though it's kinematics are simply amazing. Way better transonic performance than the Viper or Rhino.

I am certainly unbiased about Trump as I am not an American. He's no more my problem than Cyril Rhamaposa is your problem. I am not unbiased in terms of my feelings towards (you) and those like (you) because I generally find your mindbroken behavior to be quite repulsive.

Literally how it works. It may be a crazy idea but you dont HAVE to care about other peoples presidents. You dont HAVE to have an opinion on everything. You dont have to be perpetually seething about shit that has very little to no bearing on your life.

>>
>>64454382
Just really weird that asking you to post guns as resulted in an even bigger meltdown than the pre-existing "reee Trump" meltdown.
>>
>>64452936
Pretty much yeah. Drag reduction is possibly even more valuable given Pacific distances. The Super Hornet actually has pretty good legs clean, but that completely changes as soon as you want to mount any useful payload to it. Given public statements about F/A-XX range it looks like they’re favoring payload over pure reach, and probably planning to make up the difference with MQ-25s. I’m personally hoping it will manage 4x AARGM-ER sized munitions internally while maintaining 2x AMRAAM sized missiles for self escort, perhaps in side bays perhaps bay door mounted like in F-35. Given the small number of LRASMs the Navy has actually bought combined with their long range it wouldn’t surprise me if making a bay to accommodate them isn’t the highest priority, though iirc it would probably be possible to fit one in a bay sized for 2x AARGMs, I just forget the box dimensions off the top of my head.
>>
>>64454389
I really don't think you know what a meltdown is.
>>
>>64454395
Yeah, you went from crashing out about someone saying they liked a video of Trump to crashing out about being asked to post guns.

Little secret bud: You can just ignore irritating posts. You dont HAVE to give people (you)'s.

You should probably post guns tho.
>>

>>64454410
You're not irritating me, you're amusing me. I'm guessing you're new here so maybe you're not aware of the board culture. If you get upset, people will take pleasure in upsetting you.

Hence, ignore posts you dont like. You wouldnt want people to notice you're getting tilted.

I don't particularly care about Trump. He won, he's going to do his thing for the next three and a bit years. It is what it is. The OP webm is aesthetic, I would have said the same for any POTUS doing that.
