So it's shit?
>>
>>64462686
They were already shit as far as their ARs go. Didn't know they made AKs but I wouldn't put much stock in them even if they weren't owned by PSA
>>
>>64462679
I just want an akm pistol that isn't shit, but the zastavas look funny to me and Ive been hearing too much shit about wbp and the dracos seem really hot or miss. Wtf. How hard can it be to make an ak that just works? There's 60+ yo guns in the third world that are still kicking but everything modern production that's available to me seems like it'll shit the bed and die in under 10k rounds.
>>
>>64462707
the Mini Jacks, Dracos, and Zastavas are all fine. Just get the M92 or M85. Newer bulged ones though, not the old ones.
>>
>>64462693
>didn't know they made AKs
The DPMS AR parts PSA sells are the same ones out of the DPMS catalogs of old, they just moved the tooling to SC and kept production going for stuff like the railed gas blocks.
The AKs were rebranded DDI (the company that PSA bought originally to do the PSAKs to begin with) parts builds, anything since the DDI parts ran out has been rebranded PSAK parts.
Don't get one unless you're willing to gamble on PSA QC in a sub-brand; if they're trying to hide who made it even a bit, that's a reason enough to avoid it to me. If it were worth it it'd be on the PSA brand for them to build prestige off of.
>>64462707
Dracos produced this side of 2010 are fine. Zastavas this side of the butter steel receivers (around 2015ish?) are fine. Mini Jacks are fine.
The Dracos are cheaper, just check the bore concentricity if you're mounting a suppressor, it's not hard; even if it's fucked (it won't be) you learned something about fixing your own shit.

>original 25+ y/o battery is corroded so badly in place that after wrenching the cap off I literally cut the battery in half just to remove what I can because it's so swollen into the cap (the base still remains in there until I get the balls to take a Dremel to it)
>clean it "good enough" and figure I'll get back around to it when I have time (lol)
Well I just noticed the edges of my battery cap had white fuzz coming out of them. Back to fucked. Anons, don't put off removing battery leakage from your shit or you'll have to deal with it again like me. I should've at least greased the surface the cap contacted the body of the mount so it wouldn't have been so stuck even if it did start growing crystals. Remember to clean this shit well and then neutralize the acid too.

Didn't even know CRC made such a thing; they make good shit. I use their CRC Contract Cleaner a lot as well as their CRC Lithium Grease (blue tube). Might have to pick some up eventually, thanks anon. For now I can use baking soda to neutralize after I'm done and it should work fine, but I don't have pH strips or anything to confirm. Cap currently has some citric acid and Dawn mixed into water fizzing away. Hoping to maybe get closer to removing the base of that battery entirely. Inside face of the first half of the cap seems to be pretty pitted (this one has a 2 piece extended cap compared to original PSOs for a different battery AFAIK). Once I'm done today I think I'll go and grab my Super Lube to grease up the surfaces to prevent it getting jammed shut should I have missed anything. Not crazy about it containing Teflon but it's a decent dielectric grease. I do use it on electrical connectors outdoors sometimes; keeps the contacts from going green and eating themselves away.

I didn't know that. I use SL for ammo can gaskets.
If I need dielectric grease I also like CRC lel, specifically the marine grade but it's nice to know SuperLube can be used in a pinch.
Anyway, best of luck getting it unfucked.

>I didn't know that. I use SL for ammo can gaskets.
I've been waiting to get something else for ammo cans. Not sure what I want but I used to have a nice clean silicone grease IIRC. Just don't want to fuck up like 50 can seals by accident and be turbofucked; I use them for ammo, paint, materials, you name it, so I have a lot of them. Also SuperLube says it's Dielectric and Food Grade on the front, or at least does now. Appears some revisions of the tube didn't which is why you may not have known as neither did I. I was pleasantly surprised to notice that as I was really struggling to find something I actually trusted without paying $$$ for it as I needed it more or less right away.
>Anyway, best of luck getting it unfucked.
Thanks, anon. The citric acid is cleaning it better than I ever could but I think that battery base is going to stay stuck in there. I'll really never use the illuminated reticle, though, so even if I never get it out it doesn't really matter. Needs a fucking 3.6v battery anyways which really isn't available unless you find a lithium battery of a similar size. Originally a 3.6v SAF-T battery was in there, not sure what size.
>Side note, is anyone else having posting issues? These posts are taking 6-9 attempts to actually post
I thought that was just me! I had this problem a couple days ago and IIRC weirdly posting from my phone worked despite still being on the same wifi but it sucked ass phoneposting when you have to type up like 1800+ fucking characters on a touchscreen then (you)ing myself on my laptop to get notified of replies unless I really wanted to get an A to C out to type it on my Model M. I specifically have this problem where trying the captcha takes forever to load and it gets stuck on
>waiting for sys.4chan.org to respond...
for a while. Then posting takes forever after that. Weirdly now it's loading fine.

Wus poppin /akg/? I've been gone for like 4-5 months. Made some progress on my M77 dragunov project. I finished roughing out the stock. Once I'm done I'll relocate the scope rail so it rivets into the front trunnion just like the M91 in order for better PSO eye relief.

>>64463177
its still salvageable. Use the chemicals that other anons have mentioned.

>>64462707
People sometimes equate century Dracos (built on the VSKA line) to import Dracos (from Romania) The Romanian import models are fine, just stay away from anything marked CA Draco or VSKA Draco

>>64462739
WBP seems to have had a severe lapse in QC or heat treating as of late. I've noticed an uptick of people complaining about butter parts or sheared lugs in the past year. I haven't had an issue with any of mine from 2023-2024 but I wouldn't buy them until we figure out which models/year's are fucked up.

That yellow fluff appeared even despite an attempt to clean it out when I bought it. Pretty fucking scary how bad it was though I did leave half the guts of the battery inside the cap as it just wouldn't let me dig into it. Citric acid and soap let me dig it out completely so hopefully whatever leaked out between the battery body and the cap is pretty much gone. I'll try and remove the battery base another day; I might just find a way to cut it and peel it inwards into a cone so I can yank it out. Hopefully the base doesn't stay stuck; it's basically a cup in a corroded bored hole so there's not much to grab on and there's a lot of surface area for it to get stuck.

>>64463726
Here's how it came out. Just used citric acid+Dawn in water (~60-90 minutes), then rinsed the hell out of it with Dawn, hot water, q-tips, and steel wool. Then rinsed with hot water. Then soaked with baking soda in water to neutralize. Scope body got a rolled up paper towel soaked with that to prevent it soaking into spots it shouldn't get. Both got hot water, Dawn, and q-tips to rinse it out. Then hot water to rinse out any soap remaining. Then dabbed dry, blow dried, and CRC Contact Cleaner used to remove any remaining water. Thing looks like it sat in saltwater lol.
>>
>>64465572
How do you know whether it's a century or just a Romanian import from century? I'm looking at the 12 inch guns on Atlantic.
>>
>>64465987
Of the 3 listings on Atlantic for the full-size Dracos, they're all Romanian. The pictures on all three clearly say "Made in Romania" on the receivers. This is also true for the Mini and Micro Draco listings on Atlantic, they all say they're Romanian.
You can't buy a "US Draco" new anymore. Century rebranded that product line to be under their BFT47 brand name as a "BFT47 Pistol."

could be the same as what Zastava went through back in 2021 or whenever it was, when people were saying their bolts and carriers were breaking

Draco's are on sale at classic right now
https://www.classicfirearms.com/century-arms-hg2797n-micro-draco-762x39-30rd

>>64466284
Maybe. Best case scenario they do an investigation and recall rather than brushing it off as an acceptable statistical error. Odds are they'll just ride it out while they quietly fix things. Sometimes admitting that you've fixed a problem is worse for your reputation that pretending you never had a problem to begin with.
>>
so no wbp for an 556 ak? ig arsenal is the safe choice then
>>
>>64466576

>>
>>64466020
Thanks.
>>64466288
I was leaning wbp too, honestly I'm kind of torn still because the wbps do look really fucking pretty and I don't want to dump a bunch of money into furniture or improving the trigger on a Draco but I am worried about the substandard metal. If it can't be a shtf gun I don't really want it.

Also are ak triggers drop in or will they require fitting?
>>
>>
>>
>>64467398
Id either give the WBP some time, see if anything changes, or just send it on the draco. Personally I wouldnt be particularly worried about the durability of a modern imported draco.
AK triggers like the AKT are more or less drop in, but you might need to file or polish the trigger or pins since fitment isnt always incredible
You could also say fuck it and get a zastava, their triggers are pretty okay and theyre durable guns, you lose 2 inches and furniture compatibility, but that might be worth it for an overall very good-to-go gun

>Also are ak triggers drop in or will they require fitting?
They might require minor fitting. Sometimes the hammer hump is oversized and sticks up too far into the bolt carriers path. I've only had to do that with military surplus parts or cheap triggers though. Its not really a big deal. It can be done with files and sandpaper or a Dremel. Very, very rarely the axis pins are too big and you have to sand them down a bit with fine grit sandpaper

What about it?
>>
>>64468942
This is like the third "AR mag AK" that's come to market in the past 10-15 years. Off the top of my head I remember Zastava M90s and M85s coming in like that from Century (M90NP/M85NP) and PSA having one (AK-556) as well as a few aftermarket conversions.
I understand the "market data" side appeal to it in cheap functional mags they don't have to design/manufacture, but I've never gotten the desire to own one, I have never seen one in person, nor have I seen one be successful long-term on the market as a product. The sales side being so shit has to be considered by SOMEONE before releasing a product, doesn't it? Why do companies keep doing this?
>>
>>64469945
idk why companies keep stopping it. At least one is doing it again
