Slightly retarded younger sibling edition - Discuss optics, rifles, cartridges, shooting tips, etc. What have you been shooting, gentlemen? What have you been shooting at?
I moved away from all this beautiful green stuff. This picture is legitimately bringing tears to my eyes; it's so beautiful. What's the big boy flinging?
>>64463687>What have you been shooting, gentlemen?Same old 300wm but have somewhat tweaked my setup with a more subtle level and more comfortable optic positioning.>What have you been shooting at?Nothing exciting but I came up with a new idea last year that isn't really /prg/ related but ended up being a pretty good time including getting kids into it. Halloween is always fun but afterwards there are a million pumpkins nobody wants anymore. They're a hoot as targets though, everyone has fun making them go boomsplat, obviously super easy to see orange, and you can do some more precision requiring simple targets with a black magic marker and a lighter caliber. I'm hoping some of the kids around end up getting bit by the bug and their folks more comfortable with it, made a difference last year and adults could all enjoy chatting and BBQ as well. Hopefully weather is cooperative.
>>64463754.308, I'll rebarrel it at some point to 6.5CM probably but it's not holding me back for where I can shoot for now. And it's never too late to find the green stuff again, anon>>64463786>Nothing exciting but I came up with a new idea last year that isn't really /prg/ related but ended up being a pretty good time including getting kids into it. I just ate a whole can of charro beans and am butter-blasting my sheets currently. Need to stop being a procrastinating retard and actually set up my reloading room this weekend
>>64463816If you’re short of time, just set up your powder charging workflow like the Pakistanis dohttps://x.com/gunloverclub1/status/1983648758220124170?s=46>the P in +P stands for Pakistan
>>64463687Based Finland enjoyer. I'm jealous of your TRG, decided to cope with the S20 instead.>What have you been shootingJust finishing load dev in the S20 with 175gr Scenars, and have been shooting the bushmaster spr a lot lately.
>>64464051When the S20 came out, I'd been planning on putting a CTR into a KRG Bravo because the TRG I lusted after was never going to be realistic. Then when I saw the S20 I had every intention of pivoting to that instead when I stumbled on my TRG pre-owned but very lightly used at a complete steal. I got very lucky anon. But the S20 is still a lovely, lovely rifle. How's it like the Scenars? I've found my TRG barrel generally doesn't like anything below 168gr though the one exception is the Berger 155.5gr Fullbores which group really well and are a little speedier than what I get out of 168s
>>64463816That's a very nice rig
>>64464139So just finished my ladder test and 3/5 powder charges were .3-.4moa for 5 round groups. gonna pick one of the charges and will load 40rds and test it this weekend. With factory Hornady match I was averaging around .6-.7 moa in my S20 is in 300 WM. My 260rem T3 CTR in the bravo really likes 123gr scenars picrel.
>>64464174Nice shooting, anon, especially 15 rounds. Sounds like you're on a winner with the .300WM loads too. I've always heard the .260 is a fucking great cartridge but I've never got my hands on one.
>>64464182No real reason to get one now since 6.5 CM is so popular and it virtually the same as 260. My first hunting rifle growing up was in 260 and the I learned to handload it with plus have 1k pieces of brass. I do believe it is slightly better the 6.5cm but real world it doesn't matter.
>>64464190Fair call on the brass
>>64463687What is like the... minimum SD that would be acceptable in decent match ammo for long range stuff? If I have a big SD does that potentially mean my barrel is dirty or fucked?
>>64463687I'm new to the game, but shooting this with M118LR up to about 800 yards, but mostly around 300 because I'm a novice.
>>64464142Thanks dawg
>>64464760If you’re taking that out to 800 you’re well beyond a novice anon
>>64464776I should rephrase - I've attempted a couple shots at that range haha (literally just a couple). Didn't get any hits on, I can get up to 500 reliably. At the range I go to you have to qualify for the long range so technically I'm allowed to go up to 1,000 yards.
Any recommendations on some must haves for supporting equipment? Stuff like range finders, binoculars/spotting scopes, etc.
>>64463687Time to finally make some rounds up now that it’s finally getting cooler out and hopefully test them out next week
Old School Precision #1 - Remington M40
10 rounds at 100m/109yd Out of my SSG3000
Wouldn't call it a precision rifle, but I split a twig with my .17hmr at 60m on the first shot. Felt pretty good about that
>>64465224Incredible
>>64465224Nice shooting, anon. And cool rifle
Old School Precision #2 - Remington M40A1
>>64463816>>64464765speaking of, did you ever get the headspace issue worked out or was it just the hornady ammo was wildly out of spec. and iirc you also had a 300prc barrel for it, shot that one yet?man seeing everyones rifles and groups makes me sad i havent done any more load work with my new craddock mk12 barrel yet, i procrastinate too much
>>64466781>>64465219I am fully erect
>>64466781That's fucking sick. Love how thick that barrel looks.
>>64465266That’s precise enough
>>64466784Not him but I've given up on Hornady. Had a couple old boxes of GMM and it sit great. New boxes are meh and cause quite a few sticky bolt issues. Some cases were definitely over pressure.
>>64467466GMM is Federal, not Hornady, I thought?
>>64467597You're right. The Hornady was tactical match. Been shooting all the different brands as they go on sale. Since my local range expanded and started offering long range courses the price of all good ammo has sky rocketed. Match grade 308 locally is $80+.
Got my first gun this week and took it out today to 300 yards. Think I am flinching and pulling some shots off but got most in the 1 moa target. Feels good 4 months of waiting to get a license is finally over. Now I've got to start collecting cleaning equipment, a bipod and reloading equipment.
>>64467955Good shit, anon
>>64466784Good memory, bruv. Ended up just being that those were 3 unlucky dud rounds. Haven’t had any additional issues. Haven’t shot the 300 PRC barrel yet, but will eventually.
>>64466781How was the moose and how much meat did you end up getting?
>>64469314mein negro dont blueball us like that shoot the damn thing
>>64463687
Pumped to get one of the long action seekins multi caliber rifle thing is going to be sick
Hey, I am new to (bolt action) precision shooting. I have been shooting AR15 with irons only. Here is my Tikka TAC A1 results at 100m, 20" .308. GGG 168gr sierra bullets.2 groups, correction and then 10 holes under 1moa. This was the third time shooting bolt action rifle. How did I do?
>>64469938This is 300m, 2 bloody flyers.
>>64464818Keep a log of all shooting.
>>64469938>>64469965Good job
>>64469441Moose is tasting good. I think it was about 500 lbs of meat after butchering
>>64471477Ah right on, we got our two in 3-30 for a LEH. Pic rel is moose # 2, 300 yards with a 300 prc, 212 eld-x. That is his front left quarter, no exit. Half the heart and his lungs were complete mush.
>>64470480Thanks.
>>64469938>>64469965Did fine, keep doing.
>>64471830nicely done!
Random precision picture #1 - Remington 700
>>64465270>>64465996>>64465224The mentioned SSG3000
Hai guise
Gonna try to shoot groups and see if the AR I built is worth a damnI'm thinking of getting a bog deathgrip tripod, is that stable enough for groups? if not that, i'll probably go with a bog standard shooting restMy real question is regarding spotting scopes. What do you fellows use?
>>64463687is the k98 a precision rifle?
>>64473602Only if it still has the dirty birds on it
Did I fuck up?>349$ scope, marked down at PSA
What are some rangefinders?$$$$$$For right now I'm trying to keep things under 500y so cheap is preferable and once I get more used to things I will get something better. I know, buy once cry once, but I'm not sure if my rifle is even accurate enough to bother with this. When I can shoot better than 2moa I'll worry about getting something nice.
>>64474244Oh yeah not rifle mounted, just handheld.
>>64473593Try to go prone for shooting the best groupsI use a leupold mk4 12-40x60 spotter that was a fucked order for the canadian military
>>64473602It can be
I was shooting steel today, easy hits up to 300 yards. I had trouble telling if I was hitting the target at 450 yards. I think I saw a green spark off the edge of the target so I must be grazing it. At that point the sun was in my eyes and I was getting frustrated so I packed up and left before I wasted anymore rounds. Kinda bummed.
>>64474244>>64474259This is a screaming deal from Scheels. Bought mine for $650-$700ish a few years ago, and it’s been fantastic. https://www.scheels.com/p/79942940506Vortex is probably the go-to if you want something even cheaper.
>>64474512Don’t give up, fren. It’s a journey. Have you done a tall target test (i.e., confirming the accuracy of your scope tracking)? Are you confident your scope is mounted properly? What rifle and scope are you using?
>>64474533>tall target testI haven't heard of it, but I think my elevation is good. It was really hard for me to assess my misses though, it must have rained or something because I couldn't see any dust being kicked up. As far as the scope mounting, I think its mounted properly, I had a local gunsmith do it for me. I'm shooting with an M1A, sadlak mount and a vortex viper. I'm just a bit bummed since I shot around 80 rounds and didn't progress much. I do have a better understanding of making MOA adjustments for each distance at least, and I'm consistent up to 300 yards, but I was hoping to get to that level to 500 today. I'll make it a goal for the next range trip. Today was only my second time with this gun.
>>64474563In hindsight though my issue is all fundamentals. Focused on the target rather than the reticles, used too much magnification and also was not set in to take good shots.
