Shores of Tripoli editionDiscuss ShotgunsWhat do you guys think of the Duck Hunter/Frogskin Camo A300 UP?
>>64463770You can put a bayo on it, litteraly built for HD
I just like it.
>>64463788Based taste, mine has the full stock tho.
>>64463814Is that a Chiappa? How's the feeding? Curious to get one myself.
>>64463845No its the Cimarron one thats made in China. Came covered in grease but cleaned it, oiled it and once I've ran it about 100 times its worked great, you just need to be forceful when working the lever. Its an almost 1:1 copy so modern 2¾ inch shells might get snagged when ejecting. It was made back when 2½ inch shells were more common. Feeds well, haven't had any issue on that front.
Whats a good pump shotty to get? Are the 590a1’s decent or should I just work over a Maverick instead? I’d like to swap between 18 and 24” barrels but that’s not a hard requirement.
>>64463863Depends on what you wanna do with it, 590s only have a barrel that goes up to 20 inches so that kills the 24 inch idea. Mavericks have a field and security combo that cost like $300 so that would be your cheapest bet. An extra $200 gets you the same combo in a Mossberg 500. You could prolly get an 88 security and buy the long barrel off ebay for maybe a little less than the new combo. Both are usually available on the used market for about $150 off depending on how used they are.
>>64463880Think all rounder, but it would mainly by a hd gun. I already have a 28” o/u for clays but 24” seems to be that sweet spot for rabbit stations and just in general. 20” isnt a terrible option either. Are the 590a1’s still metal construction? I think the Mav would likely do the job but I’m looking for something beefy to beat around. I keep toying with the idea of a dedicated slug gun.
>>64463899590A1s have the metal trigger group yeah. Might not be a bad brush gun but remember, its not cut for chokes if that matters.
>>64463926Agony. I guess modding it could be an option if I so chose. If not, non-rifled slug express it is. For all intents, the polymer trigger group is fine, but I’m talking BEEFY. Spray paint it tan and just beat it constantly
>>64463966
>>64463863Can't go wrong with the Maverick 88 and most will recommend the field/security combo because it's 2 barrels for cheap. Keep in mind you're getting the 5 round tube in that combo. Can't overlook the 20" barrel with the 7 round tube either.Mossberg 500 only has the 5 round tube but it has a different (better) safety. I never actuate the safety on my shotguns so I don't care but maybe you will.Neither of them are drilled and tapped. The 590 is drilled and tapped so if you plan to mount any kind of optic or do lots of shooting then buy the 590 in a configuration that you like and call it a day.The 590A1 really isn't worth the $$$ and the heavy barrel is more of a pain in the ass than it is useful.
>>64463966>>64463984Nothing wrong with tan rattle can but I hop ur not mixing tan AND wood furniture.
>>64463984That is a good looking shotgun. I’m more of a bead enthusiast myself. The heat shield makes the look. I’d be tempted to go retrograde but since this is a beater I’d hate to ding up the wood furniture vs just getting polymer furniture
>>64464009The Mossberg 500 is drilled and tapped.>sourceMy Mossberg 500
>>64464018The wood furniture on the retrograde is pretty meh, you're better off paying the primo for a vintage set or buying a police trade in 500A
>>64464009Gonna have to give the mav a hard look too. I just like that metal triggerguard but I get it with the heavy barrel. All in the swing >>64464014Wouldn’t dream of it. I need anti goose gun
>>64464022Nice. Mine doesn't but good to know they are drilling them now.
>>64464053I guess im lucky, I really wanna put the Vortex Viper on it and really stretch its legs on slugs. I dont know if I trust the optic tho, I haven't seen anybody that owns one on here.
>>64464053if its 1990s+ mossberg it should be drilled and tapped. there are older varients that werent thats an estimate on when they started.
Just picked up a “Blue Line” chinkshit 870. Anyone know if these are even worth the $115 price tag?
Are gas operated semi autos much better than intertia-driven ones? I have an M2 knockoff and am wondering if I should pick up a 1301 or M4 in the future.
>>64465432Those are the current hawk982 or h&r pardner.they are fine and 99% compatible with rem parts only difference is the longer magtube and barrel band location. Which means you need to make a spacer if you want to use a real rem barrel.
>>64465449Gas operated tends to shoot a little softer and cycles lighter loads better than inertia driven. Inertia guns are cleaner though. Fouling might not be an issue for you anyway since berettas can go like 500 rounds between cleanings. I've shot Benelli montefeltro and an A300 sport for few rounds of trap and I prefer the gas guns.
>>64465826How hard is it to make the spacer? If I use a rem barrel will i have trouble with head space?
>>64466841Assuming you can find the correct diameter pipe it's not hard. That said a barrels going to cost more that the gun it's going on so why bother?
>>64466963Something to do i guess, its either that or practice drawing porn.
>>64463770they need to make a wood edition
>>64467323
Just got my first gun, a Remington 870 from 1963
>>64463984what pic rail did you use? Does it really matter or can I just get a cheap $20 pic rail? Also what wood furniture?
>>64469548Nice! How was she at busting clays
Cool local find, a 1201FP and they're asking $650. Feels like it'd be kinda pointless to get since I have a 1301 but it looks neat and seems to be a decent price...
>>64463774what, in the event 8 rounds isn't enough?
Fleet farm seems to be putting their 1301 Mod 2's on clearance. I just got one with the Mesa Tactical pistol grip for $1599. Lowest price on Gunbroker seems to be $1899ish. Looks like a pre-"C" model, has a 7 round tube. Going to shoot it tomorrow.
>>64469921She's better at it than I am. First time I went I absolutely destroyed my shoulder too.
>>64472658slap a limb saver rubber pad on itif you are shooting a lot it will help
>>64463774You can also throw it as a spear to kill ducks.
I have a Mossberg 590 with a pistol grip. The grip is annoying in many ways. Anyone have experience using the Magpul stock for these? Good lockup and balance? Opinions on pistol grip vs traditional stocks?
>>64473468Can confirm with pistol grips in general. Traditional stock reigns supreme. Pistol grip has a few niche advantages but unless you’re blasting hinges, you’re better served going with traditional. How do you like your 590 otherwise? I have no experience with the Magpul personally but my friends seem to like theirs.
>>64463770I love Multicam shotguns, saw a perfect 1301 on GB for GB prices.
>>64473711It runs fine. No issues with cycling, firing, or extraction with any type of shells. It always just felt goofy cycling a pump with a pistol grip and ghost ring sights. I don’t mind the sights, but that grip just made the body mechanics feel so unnatural. I think it’s because with a pistol grip the support hand and arm are at a different horizontal plane than the firing hand/arm and that arm has to do a gross out/in movement that is completely removed from the firing arm. Thinking about it now it makes sense. With a traditional stock both shoulders should be at nearly the same height and inward curve when running the pump. With a pistol the firing side arm is probably dropped a little lower. Like instead of a triangle on a flat horizontal plane now the back right corner is dropped lower than the front and left corners. I haven’t shot the thing in years. I did run a Tactical Response shotgun class with it and didn’t have any issues with malfunctions over that weekend.
what's pic related of HD shotgun ammo?
hows pic related? is it as shiny as it looks?
>>64475737>hows pic relatedit would be better to buy a regular 500 and put wood on it after for the price of the retrograde>shinyit's just the lighting
>>64475755it's blued
>>64463814If that sucker were mine, I’d love to buy some brass shells and load it up with black powder.
>>64470048Id buy it just round out my 90s swat larp
>>64475761That is exactly what I did lmao.
>>64475832No kidding! Nice. That’s the hottest gif I’ve seen on /k/ all week.Probably works better than plastic shells too.
