Don't worry major, I have your back with my bespoke italian low boreaxis revolver

Fucking fleshbag normie
>>
the whole point of his character was to exemplify how normal humans are outdated and just kept around as pets for fun, similar to his revolver.
This showcases how their entire society has become a slave to technology, where you must sacrifice your humanity to become a robotranny in order to even put bread on the table for your family.

That's the Doyleist reason but the Watsonian reason is as a backup in case the tech fails/is exploited.
The Major literally says that he serves to provide diversity and avoid the weakness of uniformity.

He's also the only one who's not some kind of sperg and can talk to witnesses well.

Yes. And after he gets the tracker bullet in the getaway vehicle Batou points out that if he had an automatic he'd have been able to get two in the car in the same amount of time.

>>64523611
The writers *are* gun autists. The Yakuza shootout in the 2004 movie features a particularly strange list of weapons. Some of the Yakuza guys have normal stuff like Beretta 92's, MAC-10s and 1911s but there's also a fucking AMC Automag, this customized Super Blackhawk, a Manurhin MR96, Bushmaster ARM, Famas....

>>64524219
They probably looked at pictures in magazines more than anything else, at least for the OG manga and the first couple movies.
>>
>>64524215
>tracker bullet in the getaway vehicle
Is it just me, or is it odd how that scene played out?
Let's say you're some super l33t operat0r, you suspect there's a high chance of getting into a car chase so you make sure to carry a tracking cartridge with you.
But, instead of carrying the tracker cartridge loaded in its own gun, you instead carry just the cartridge which forces you to single-load a revolver whenever you want to use it. That seems like a dumb liability, especially since if a chase is going on you don't exactly have time to waste. Why not carry the tracker bullet pre-loaded in a separate gun?
>>
>>64524230
I'm fairly certain the lot of them had a stash or airsoft guns already. The japs invented that shit because they couldn't get real guns.
I started ordering Tokyo Marui stuff around the year 2000 or so, and even back then, it was already an established brand, and my 25 year old AEGs are as good as any modern ones.
>>
>>64524237
it's even dumber because he wasn't carrying it because he was expecting a chase. he was carrying it because the chase was literally their plan. they literally planned the other guys breaking in and doing that whole thing and the truck getting in the way and he still waited until the last second to load his gun
>>
>>64524257
It was established long before 2000. My cousin, a Bong, was obsessed with them in the late 1980's and would rant for ages about how they were so realistic and even the same weight as the originals. I don't know if this is still a thing, but some of them were motorized or ran off compressed gas, and people modded them. There were magazines devoted to this, and it was also referenced in Otaku No Video--both the animation and the live action segments.
>>
>>64524264
Yeah, that's even more retarded, in that scenario you could have a few designated marksmen whose only job is to tag the getaway vehicle.

Hey, if you're into old-style, do it with something sexy.
>>
>>64523468
Didn't he get into trouble due to a shootout or something where his autistic revolver use was blamed for a civilian being killed or something?
>>
>>64524269
The AEGs are "motorized". It stands for automatic electric gun, and they're basically the standard for airsoft rifles. GBBs, or gas blowbacks, are usually used for handguns, and give you much better and more realistic feedback. You can also get GBB automatic rifles, but they're rarer and more expensive, and their performance is affected by ambient temperature, gas cooling, performance issues when the gas is running low, and having to swap out gas far more often than you have to swap out batteries.
I don't think AEGs were around in the 80s though, but I'm sure Tokyo Marui was still making decent replicas back then. I mean, most of the jap anime/manga gun autists worth their salt made their mark between the 80s and the early 2000s.
As for modding, I don't think I have a single gun that isn't modded. It's been over 20 years since I last bought an airsoft gun or played though, but I kinda want to get back into it.
>>
I would discard my meatbag for a full body replacement asap

They are in GitS. Literally the only people who didn't have cybernetics during the Laughing Man incident were some 40~50+ year old homeless guys, even the younger homeless people had them.
Of course, in GitS, there's a difference between basic cyber-brain interfacing and a full body prosthesis like the Major. Being an anime the power scaling goes pretty silly, she could probably pull Adam Smasher's >>64524391 spine out without much effort despite being a quarter the weight simply because the tech in GitS can ignore physics even more than Cyberpunk's already silly stuff.

Togusa has a cyberbrain that is connected to the internet, so on the contrary, he has the ONE cybernetic enhancement that would allow him to be hacked remotely, doesn't he?

If you had a full body cybernetic replacement but an "offline" brain you'd make a better backup guy than Togusa does. You'd only be vulnerable to EMP and couldn't be remotely compromised in any way.
>>
>>64524391
If cybernetics aren't cheap in that turbogay Cyberpunk™© setting, why are so many criminals and subhumans geared out their ass?
It's almost like a simile of roids today. While a lot of wealthy elites and celebrities apparently get TRT under medical supervision, and end up looking ripped into old age with very little effort, it's mostly associated with subhuman scum like criminals, bodybuilders, braindead athletes and "influencers".
>>
>>64524464
it depends on when in the setting you are.

2020 has less implants around in general. They're not strange but many NPC statblocks do not include them, or only include minor ones.

Why do gangers have them, you ask? Because a professional criminal is higher on the social hierarchy than all low level-proles. He has both the spending money, impetus, and connections to get all this shit. Cyberpunk USA operates a second world country still ran by the Mob and oligarchs, but worse.

japanese mangas just tend to fetishize things a lot more, usually to the point of it being distracting. it also doesn't help that japs cant really own guns so they have more mystical appeal to them. most comic book artists don't really care about guns so they don't put much effort into drawing them super accurately.

I don't live in a shithole, so that only happens maybe once every two or three years, and even then, it's usually only for a few minutes. I think the longest I've been without power in the past 10 years is less than an hour, and in my entire life, maybe 2 or 3 hours, and that was over 20 years ago
Anyway, when the power goes out, I grab a flashlight, check my fuse box and then look outside to see if the power has gone in the neighborhood and the rest of the city. Then I check my phone to see what the problem is (mobile internet is a thing), and by the time I'm done doing that, the power is usually back.
The only thing I'd actually worry about if the power went out for a long period of time, is the food in my fridge and freezer going bad.

A cyberbrain can disable all networking (I believe that at points they refer to it as "going autistic" lol)
The bigger advantage is that he's a lot more lowkey (presumably heavy augmentation should be pretty easy to detect) and thus better suited for plainclothes assignments than most other team members. And things like electromagnetic interference, powerful magnets and such, but that's a very niche advantage
>>

Of course there are, you tard. I'm talking about you pretending that elites supposedly buy ARs, which is fucking retarded. Elites don't give a shit about guns, unless they like hunting, and in those cases, they use legal guns.

The sword was originally called Ame no Murakumo and was discovered by Susanoo after he killed Orochi. The sword was passed down to a guy who used the sword to cut grass because some dudes trying to kill him used fire arrows to set the field on fire and he used the swords ability to control the wind to cut the grass and direct the fire back at them and renamed it afterwards.

>it's mostly associated with subhuman scum like criminals, bodybuilders, braindead athletes and "influencers".
I don't disagree, but honestly a shocking amount of people out there (especially zoomers) are delving into dangerous roid and research chemical use to "get big quick".
I work for a big package company as a truck driver. When there is no driving work, I get assigned "loading work" at my driving rate instead. It's brutal, dehumanizing work. I end up doing like 6-8 hours of cardio and heavy lifting, and will lose ~5lbs in water weight every night that I do it.
I'm in my late thirties, and because I've been doing this for a while, I'm genuinely pretty strong, IE I can do ~20 one-leg squats in a row, all the way down, with one leg out 90 degrees as a warmup.
Because of that a lot of my younger coworkers talk to me about lifting and exercise, and they all want to know "what gear are you on", and they're all shocked that I've never done anything.
They're all using something. The latest is a research chemical (I think?) called MK677.
I try to explain to them that all that shit will give you ED faster than you can imagine, especially if you're not seeing a doctor to monitor your levels, and will more than likely fuck them up in a variety of ways they can't yet imagine.
They all just say "oh but I'm only taking a little bit, and I only do it for a week at a time." or whatever and brush me off.
We're talking about like 50 young guys in their twenties all using something insane like that.
It's fucking horrifying.

FWIW research chemicals != roids. They don't work the same way and generally don't have the same sides
They're not "safe", in the sense that there are no long-term studies that would determine if they give you cancer 10 years down the line, but the immediate side effects are mild to nonexistent
MK677 in particular just gives you a little extra oomph in strength and endurance and makes your recovery and sleep better at basically no cost (as far as we know)

If I'm not mistaken, in more than a few episodes the idea of body swapping was also a thing like when a bunch of government higher ups or whatever were held hostage in a whore house and the talk of clients swapping bodies with the prostitutes was a thing.

>>64524461
>>64524154
When they talk about Togusa being more human as advantage, the film doesn't just mean specifically organic, it means the fact that he has a family and a more or less normal career and that kind of perspective. Contrasted with Motoko's black void of an apartment and Batou only having his dog. It's that awareness of the human aspects that tips him off that something's up, which is the narrative payoff for it.

I don't know what to tell you dude, just shouting into the void about this immediately worrying issue I've been seeing for some time now, just because I saw the chance at random.
I don't really have anyone to voice these concerns to in my life.

>>64525318
>MK677 in particular just gives you a little extra oomph in strength and endurance and makes your recovery and sleep better at basically no cost
Okay, that's almost exactly what they've all been telling me.
But all this shit is a mystery grab bag of adulterated chemicals with no quality checks or verification, nor significant definitive research and testing, and they're all taking this with no professional consultations or monitoring.
So on top of not having a clear understanding of it's long term effects, you have no way to 100% verify if it's completely the chemical in question in the first place, nor any precise understanding of what it's doing to your body aside from how you immediately feel.
It's just insane to do this shit when your alternative is just go a little slower, wait a few months longer, and not have to worry about it at all.
>>
>>64525448
>just because I saw the chance at random.
If that's what it is and you're not just laying it on thick, you have my respect. It just seems a bit too constructed and simple, because it's a scenario that too many people want to complain about and identify with.

She's supposed to have creepy penetrating eyes. Like the eyes of a predator: an eagle or a tiger. The females of those species are huntresses, after all.
Female bald eagle is even larger than the male, classic example.

One of her little motifs is that's she's exciting and sexy, but the price for touching that, if you even get the chance (which you won't) is that you'll probably fucking die just by association. You don't get wrapped up in that if you're wise.
Kind of like a feudal servant at arms (knight /samurai) chasing the thrill of fame and glory.

he said he uses a revolver because he's worried about semis jamming which kind of makes sense in the context of the fact the manga came out in 1989 and back then you had fuddlore and the fact a lot of popular semi auto handguns couldn't feed hollow points for most of the 20th century. one of the big reasons
>revolvers are just so much stronger
exists is because a lot of semi autos couldn't feed hollow points for a lot of the 20th century

>one of the big reasons
>revolvers are just so much stronger
>exists is because a lot of semi autos couldn't feed hollow points for a lot of the 20th century
That's not just some kind of meme anon, back then things like the Colt Delta Elite would crack frames with full house FBI 10mm, while Dan Wesson was putting out revolvers you could unscrew barrels out of in 357 Maximum (not magnum, I actually mean maximum, look it up) with a pocket wrench, and people were shooting them competitively, putting 1000s of rounds through them.
Revolvers WERE legitimately stronger.

>>64524651
>Also, there are plenty of countries in Europe that have a much richer and less commercialized gun culture than the US, because it's more closely tied to hunting, target shooting and history.
What you mean is that it's gun culture entirely policed by wealthy fudds and legislation ensures nobody under the age of 50 will ever have anything nice. It's a bit of a caricature but that's how I would put it in general terms as a European

The other important context here is that this is before the Japanese police dallied with semi-autos, so him having a rveolver communicates that he is a Normal Japanese Police Officer, but the fact that it's an unorthodox one communicates that he's a Future Police Officer as well.

>>64526522
Masamune's just a neurotic contrarian autistic like Giger and Anno. We are indebted to some of his aesthetics, but that's where it ends.
He loves defilement porn in general. We know from the supplemental material of the GitS manga that he's smart enough to understand sensor design. Yet his scrambled mind prevents him from pursuing real technical work. His frustrations express themselves as wild fetishes.

Like Anno and Miyazaki, Masamune is also eternally buttblasted over Grorious Nippon Teikoku losing to Murka. He takes out his frustration with Murka in his fiction.
I will derive great satisfaction when, contrary to how Masamune's neo-Soviet has its shit together and manages to steal Alyaska back from the ebil Murkans, real life Russia's proven as the bigger shit hole about to get carved up.

Similar to how, in a real-life Greater Japanese Empire that Masamune so adores, his degeneracy wouldn't be celebrated (or even tolerated) to the degree that post-MacArthur Japan allows.
