Red dots mounted to the barrels of older rifles
ok
>>64540727Why
>>64540727Does this count?
>>64540778sure
>>64540763They use them on driven hunts, where you shout quick moving pig at close distance.>But why no semi-autosPartly because there's laws on magazine cap for semi-autos (they are being loosened right now though). Partly because people prefer to use more substantial calibres than .308 and finding semi-autos in those calibres can be hard.
>>64540763Many old guns just don't have anywhere to mount them on the receiver.
>>64540727Is that a sako 375?
I saw something just this in a gunrag once. It was the writer's only long gun for hunting, because with two shotgun barrels and a rifle barrel. (And of course, topped with a convenient red dot).I think his main motivation for it was so that he would only need to bring this one gun when he was traveling around the country, and the neighboring countries, and the gun would be ready for hunting any game, just pick the right ammo and barrel.>>64540778Lordy, is that a brand new Luger carbine? I'd have suggested to make the bar on the frame for the handguard be extended to mount the forward sling swivel on that, rather than attaching the front swivel onto the barrel itself, but that's still neat to look at.Man, I fucking love the Luger, it's such an elegant and beautiful goddamn pistol.
>>64541128fun fact, it's technically only a drilling if it has 3 barrels because drilling means like triplet or something
>>64541140Yeah, it comes from the German word for triplet, "dreiling" or something like that (don't slap me on the balls for my spelling, I flunked German). Then there's four barreled guns, which are "vierlings," vier meaning four, and presumably that word is for quadruplets.
>>64540736A dot on a scout is super fun.
>>64540727Has anyone put a red dot on their SKS? Pics?
>>64542053a million people have done this and its garbage every time
>>64542173>garbage every timeWhy?
>>64542179Because people who bubba SKSes have no fucking taste and cover their SKSes in TAPCO shit and other chinesium mounts and oddities.
>Red dots
>>64542210>Because people who bubba SKSes have no fucking taste and cover their SKSes in TAPCO shit and other chinesium mounts and oddities.I only asked about adding an optic.
>>64542053>>64542179>>64542337it usually looks like ass due to how it mounts to the rear sight
Can't wait to get mine doMne like this one
Is a pistol/micro dot a good choice for a 22lr rifle? They usually have quite a big dot and a lot of coatings on the lens. I was thinking about cheap scope, but a red dot would be a lot lighter.
>>64543013I have the black version ofhttps://www.sightmark.com/products/mini-shot-m-spec-m1-lqd-reflex-sight-dark-earth?variant=43462961922285on my .22 rifle
Sks contribute :) I put all my dumb shit on ARs as god intended
>>64542053>>645421791. The SKS doesn't have amazing inherent precision as is.2. Mounting optics to the SKS is annoying, because on most rifles, you will zero in the optic, but the zero will then usually begin to wander away.3. It looks kind of dogshit.>>64542639Mounting it to the rear sight base might work, but goddamn, look at that fucking eye relief. IMO, you would need to shorten down that distance, either with a long and awkward extension which will block you from clip loading, or by putting it into a bullpup stock so you can get the optic closer to your face. Even with a bullpup stock like this, you end up getting it pretty far away anyway and it looks, eh, not great. This is the kind of bullshit that you end up getting when trying to make a really old kind of gun like this be something it really isn't. I could almost get doing this kind of stuff way back in the day when an SKS wasn't even $200, getting those 20rd Tapco duckbill mags, maybe even a new stock, but these days it's not worth doing, particularly for the dubious performance.
>>64543249>1. The SKS doesn't have amazing inherent precision as is.that has nothing to do with red dots. red dots are just better iron sights>but goddamn, look at that fucking eye relief.that's how far forward I have the red dot on my .22lr and it's fine. I pushed the red dot as far forward on the receiver as I could on my AR as wellhave you ever used a red dot? you just mount it forward and use it like irons except with both eyes open and you target focus
>>64541128>Lordy, is that a brand new Luger carbine? It was made by the German gunsmitthing collective/company Spohr. They generally make much-imporved clones of S&W revolvers these days, but they have made some REALLY fancy Lugers from scratch too.Coincidentally, the unrelated but almost identically named Swedish company Spurh, known mostly for their aftermarket MP5 and G3 parts, has also made some Lugers. The gunsmith who founded that company loves Lugers and specializes in building them into target pistolsBefore Youtube became all googleified and shit, Spuhr had a video series on these showing him building a Luger from scratch. He also had a series of videos building an AR-15 for his wife from scratch. He made nearly every single part, including shit like the pins and screws. If I recall correctly, the only factory-made parts on that gun were the plastic bits.
>>64540778you're doing it wrong
>>64544189That's a reflex sight. And an airsoft gun.
Is it okay to put a red dot on a Ruger American?
>>64544967Why wouldn't it be?
>>64544967Aristocrat faggot eurofudds are out there putting scope rails and Aimpoints on handmade 120-year old double barrel nitro-rifles worth 30-grand. No one will give a shit if you put a dot on your <$1.000 plastic shit stick.A red dot is still a valid and legitimately good choice of optic if most of the shots you're expecting to take with the rifle are within a hundred yards or so.
>>64544953>reflexholographic
Pic related is similar to what I'm intending to have built, except mine will be .416 Rem Mag. I think a dot is a good idea on a dangerous game rifle and a lot of PHs nowadays like them as well.
