WTF could the Nazis invade Norway when UK had 10x as big a surface navy, not to mention civilian shipping, and more than a few subs, long range bombers, flying boats, etc?Seems like UK could spam surface ships with lots of reserves. Also, WTF could Nazis SHIP iron ore from Norwegian ports from Sweden, all the way down the coast, if UK had so many ships?
The WWII storyline needed to spice up the season before hitting the big Barbarossa arc, so the writers fudged the events a little bit to make it work out. After Francois Darlan left the writing team for a bit they recycled his Finland invasion story idea for the Germans, as well as eventually bringing in the war with the USSR plot beat. Ultimately the narrative benefit of giving Germany a big costal region didnt pan out because to make it more believable they had most of the German surface fleet get btfo, so that plotline never really went anywhere.
>>64544014>WTF could the Nazis invade Norway when UK had 10x as big a surface navy, not to mention civilian shipping, and more than a few subs, long range bombers, flying boats, etc?Changing the opinions of Norwegians. Without Germany invading they would’ve just said not my problem but with Germany invading it became a problem. The UK "occupying" Norway otherwise wouldn’t have been smooth sailings. >Also, WTF could Nazis SHIP iron ore from Norwegian ports from Sweden, all the way down the coast, if UK had so many ships? So Germany depleted its resources on shit like tanks, making it impossible for them to even recover non military post war. Also the more iron ore, the more people have to work in factories = more targets in bombing raids.
>>64544067makes sense. at the beginning of picrel they have a disclaimer saying the Evil Nazi is purely fictional and the Nazis were nice occupiers. "one of the 25 best"??? thats pretty weak praise
>>64544014Norway has a small population concentrated on the Southern coastline, so you only needed to really seize a few cities to control the entire country. The Royal Navy also had to split its ships between Norway and the battle for France which fell apart even more rapidly. The Norwegians also simply didn't take the threat of invasion by German seriously (largely because it was the British who had violated their neutrality first during the Altamark incident) until they caught the Blücher literally trying to sail its way into Oslo harbor. And it was still a bloody slog, German losses in Norway were absolutely horrific.>3 cruisers>10 destroyers>dozens of u-boats and transport ships>5,200 dead or wounded
>>64544014because the UK didnt want to risk their navy. thats really all there is to it.
>>64544286I'm thinking since they had so much more nave they'd want any chance to engage.they could outnumber Nazis 4 to 1 and still not "risk" much.I don't see much RN tied up in Battle of France, or even Battle of Britain.
>>64544067more true or more accurate information is not possible to post here
Because the Germans could fly anti-ship sorties in this red circlethe real question is why didn't the allies invade norway themselves once the luftwaffe had been destroyed
>>64544486not exactly great optics to invade a neutral nation when you're not nazi germany, imperial japan or regular italydo not look at iceland
>>64544486no capital ships were sunk in WW2 if they had ANY CAP.but I guess guaranteeing constant CAP was a tall order.but WTF was the UK limit for anti-ship sorties, with their bigger bombers, actual aircraft carriers, and big flying boats?
