We definitely lost something when we lost the WWII/early Cold War era "I'm gonna shoot it the way I want to shoot it and you can fuck off about it" attitude about it.
>am I holding it right?
>is this the one the other ladies got?

chicken wing stances are still the most effective for long distance shooting from the offhand, especially if you have a really angled grip

What makes them effective? Intuitively I'd think they would be worse, since you can't brace your right elbow against your body to stabilize
>>
>>64547930
Forms a definite "pocket" for the buttstock to rest.
>>
>>64547366
I think everyone should train one handed because the type of situations you will use a pistol for are so random and unpredictable it is utter folly to assume you will always have both hands ready. Things like

>shooting while hugging cover
>shooting around a corner
>shooting while laying flat on the ground
>shooting while being grabbed or injured
>shooting while carrying something else
>>
>>64547947
that's retarded, when have you ever had trouble holding a rifle stock against your shoulder? that's like having trouble holding your foot against the ground.
>>
This >>64548416 poster is exactly right.

I full believe that point shooting, shooting from the hip, one-handed shooting, and shooting with your non-dominant hand should be practiced. I also think that if anyone carries a sidearm he should be prepared to have someone attempt to wrestle it away from him., and should be at least somewhat practiced in combatives.
If you carry a tourniquet you should be able to accept that your arm may become disabled.
>>
>>64547930
>>64548443
The chicken wing helps stabilize the rifle horizontally.
>>
Ill >>64548447 clarify that training should still primarily focus on two-handed shooting and drawing (from a ready position), and that the sort of person that goes to the range once a month or less should focus on that and only that.
>>
>>64547451
lmao
>>
>>64548416
>>64548447
Agreed to all this, I'd also add in a bit of shooting while backpedaling or strafing since there's a good chance you're gonna try to move to cover while firing. It's never a bad idea to at least familiarize yourself with other styles of handgun shooting, if nothing else it spices up the usually fairly dull static two handed target shooting
>>
>>64548449
by completely removing the natural vertical stability of the trigger hand. Personally I do about a 45 degree angle with both arms when standing, that gives me the best stability. Chicken winging the right arm makes it worse. If I'm shooting for accuracy and I have a couple seconds to change position though, I'm going to sit down and put my elbows on my knees.
>>
And people also used to shoot cup and saucer but then people went
>oh this is retarded and doesn't do anything
Which why /k/ommandos on /tg/ sperged when Games Workshop released a Space Marine with a bolt pistol (heavy) cup and saucer aiming.
>>
>>64548416
Check this out, interview with a guy who got in 14 gunfights, iirc he was a stakeout squad member?
He agrees with what you said, says he often found himself shooting one-handed because his other hand was off doing something else

>>
>>64548785
Personally I have better results with it. The longest successful shot I ever made was with a 7mm Mauser held in that position.

Pussytols are self defence weapons designed to be fired within literal spitting distance. If you have to actively aim a pissytol other than pointing it towards the target, your during eat wrung. If you have to squint, you need a rifle.

Hollywood just started showing everyone doing it in the 90s, never once was it seen before then. That's the only real reason everyone insists you use two hands for the machine clearly designed for only one hand.
>DUDE! NO. DON'T DO THAT. BOTH HANDS. YOU HAVE TO DO IT IN THE MOVIES LIKE THIS I SAW THIS ON LAW AND ORDER IN 2002 THIS IS HOW IT'S ACTUALLY DONE.
If everyone is just going off what their favorite movie/TV show from 30 years ago was, or whatever their 80IQ Mexican instructor told them during the GWOT, I'm just gonna hold it however I want.

It's impossible to convince people who idolize the comp shooter/sport shooters shilling shit that they are wrong when it comes to a gunfight. History has shown again and again when pistols are used in a gunfight he who draws first and hits first wins. There is nothing faster than quick draw shooting one handed from the hip. And there are plenty of people who can do it reliably

No, because I'm not an attention starved basement dweller. I can draw from an issue drop leg and fire hitting a four inch circle from the hip. Every time. Faster than you by a lot if I believe your dumb ass shot timer pic. Cowboy single action is can unload before you even fire.

Not going to defend zoomers too much but shooting at and hitting are two very, very different things. Pistol marksmanship back then was atrocious on average.

The upper human torso is a huge target. At gunfight ranges it's almost impossible to miss. Accuracy is overrated in a pistol fight. Fire first and don't stop till they drop.

It just spices up static target shooting, that and shooting one handed. I mean I understand the purpose in two handed, accurate magdumps into a man sized target at 15 yards, it's a realistic way to use your pistol but I swear you feel like a god hitting a clay pigeon at 25-30 yards one handed even if that's not all that impressive

Just look at police bodycam videos. Most shootouts are done one handed without proper stance. Most of the grip "science" is BS from people who feel the need to make them look knowledgeable or are trying to sell you some LARP training course. You just need to have your sights properly adjusted and aligned with the target at the moment the bullet fires. That's it. Don't believe me ? Put your pistol on a stand and pull the trigger from a string. It will shoot straight without any grip at all.

That's why I started practicing those things. The pursuit of speed gets boring if I'm just standing still, and even if I were shooting at an indoor range, getting good with one handed shooting just makes two hands feel like easy mode.
>>
you aren't practicing you're just having fun. no one is watching you shoot, no one is critiquing you and you aren't changing how you shoot.

theres nothing wrong with having fun shooting but please stop thinking you're superior.

>>
>>64556902
You can improve without needing external critique and you can practice while having fun. If practice is a banal act to you then you've clearly reached the apex of skill in that particular style of shooting and should move on to learning another style to expand your repertoire. Or keep practicing the one kick a thousand times, you do you
>>
>>64556919
>You can improve without needing external critique

im not even being facetious when i say this, no you can't, not with pistol shooting.
