This is just a list of my personal favorites:
>Cross of Iron (1977) - Directed by Sam Peckinpah, starring James Coburn. Burned out Wehrmact forward scouts fighting Russians on the Eastern Front. Makes no mention of the holocaust, nor does it feature the SS, but it has a lot to say about Prussian militarism and the degraded mental state of even the best front line fighters.
>A Bridge Too Far (1977) - Directed by Richard Attenborough, starring James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Elliot Gould, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, and Robert Redford to name a few. Features the largest parachute drop ever captured on film. It's about Operation Market Garden and why it was such a massive fuck up. One of the most historically accurate war films ever made, but even then it's still a movie, so temper your autism if you can help it. A lot of the crazier scenes actually happened IRL.
>Duck, You Sucker! aka Fist Full of Dynamite (1971) - Directed by Sergio Leone, starring Rod Steiger and James Coburn. A Mexican bandit and his small army of sons, (all fathered with different women), befriends a weed smoking, mescal drinking, motorcycle driving former IRA explosives expert during the Mexican revolution. Opens with a quote from Mao Zedong. The pacing is very slow and the plot is pure fiction, but it's still one of my all time favorites.
>Come and See (1985) - Directed by Elem Klimov, starring some fucking Russians none of you know know fuck about. What happens when the Dirlewanger brigade shows up in your town. Depicts the horror and mayhem of Nazi war crimes on the Eastern Front. A friend once described it as "The Mist, but with Nazis".
>Dark of the Sun (1968) - Directed by Jack Cardiff, starring Rod Taylor and Jim Brown. Ragtag mercenaries riding a train full of stolen diamonds in the Congo. Depicts possibly the first chainsaw fight in a feature length film. Kind of campy but still lots of fun.

The Bridges at Toko-ri is pure Korean War era naval aviation kino. It has some of the best peorid color footage of some of my favorite aircraft, plus it's pretty gritty and real for a 1950s major motion picture.
>>64593500
>Cross of Iron (1977)
Wore this shit out from my local VHS rental place in the 1990s.
If you enjoy it (and you will), check out the Breakthrough(1979) it isn't as good, but only by comparison. It's a Godfather II type thing.
>A Bridge Too Far (1977)
Unmitigated kino
>Duck, You Sucker! aka Fist Full of Dynamite (1971)
Also featuring James Coburn like Cross of Iron
>Come and See (1985)
Probably the most 4chan /k/ movie ever. It's a waking nightmare on film. It is basically the book Ordinary Men set to film. It's what the Twitter blue hair liberals think Charlie Kirk wanted for everyone who wasn't a white Christian. Watch it for the first time with someone you don't know very well.
>>64595564
>Stalingrad (1993)
This is pretty damn good, too. Very dark. Very bleak. So, I guess on theme.

they're two separate movies

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Captain_(2017_film)
about a deserter that pretends to be an officer and goes around north eastern germany committing crimes (mstoyl executing other deserters)
shock/absurdity is the main theme of this film, but it is a (more or less) true story https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willi_Herold

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forgotten_Battle
is a film that really feels like they were going for a 3 parter that culminated in an epic finale, but the budget ran out so they crammed three storylines (hiding paras that missed market garden, girl trying to get into the resistance, and dutch guy that joined the wehrmacht) into one
also includes a couple eastern front scenes that arent entirely awful

I just finished reading With The Old Breed which is what The Pacific is based on, and I hate HBO even more now
Sledge was a dedicated Christian but they cut out all that
He was also firmly in support of shooting all nips even as he was decrying the futility of war, but they turned him into a shellshocked peacenik

The last paragraph of his book:
>Until the millenium arrives and countries cease trying to enslave others, it will be necessary to accept one’s responsibilities and to be willing to make sacrifices for one’s country—as my comrades did. As the troops used to say, “If the country is good enough to live in, it’s good enough to fight for.” With privilege goes responsibility.
